How many washes do you get?

I’ve just killed another washing machine (always bearings) apparently I just use it too much. I do 16 full loads a week and get almost 2 years so say approx 1600 washes. Apparently this is unreasonable bordering commercial Hmm

I’m not after a debate about rewearing pants, just tell me please how many washes do you reckon you get from a machine?

@SleepyMathematician thank you, too late for this time as I’ve already bought one, but I’ll check that out for next time.

@GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER not really, I thought I was relatively scuzzy until this thread Grin

@MrsKDB I tend to change them when they start to smell Blush they get hung on a heated rail but still only do 4 days or so.

@TuftyMarmoset quite possibly! DH wore jeans a lot at work last week (clean each day as gets mucky) so that bumped it up.

I think about 7 a week. Darks, lights, bedding/towels. About to start reusable nappies which will add 3/4 I think.

I don't know over the lifetime of a machine but I do more than 16 a week and ours is still going strong. I do seem to kill tumble dryers though... Maybe I need one for commercial use 😂

Rosielil · 20/11/2021 18:56

Have a Bosch machine which is around 10-12 years old. I’d say around 20 loads a week. Touch wood, machine is okay for now. Bosch dryer is dying though and will be replaced with a less expensive brand.

Igneo · 20/11/2021 18:59

I Bought a second hand, 20 yr old hoover machine, i did 7 washes a week in it for 5 years and still going strong.
Look for an antique.

@RampantIvy

We are a family of 5 adults, all doing our washing independently, so often 3 or more washloads aday

That sounds like a really inefficient way of doing things and a waste of resources. When DD is home I ask her to put her washing in the linen bin so that I can do full loads of similar colours together. She is perfectly capable of doing her own washing as she does it when she is in her student accommodation.

Not inefficient at all and no resources wasted. We all do full washloads, and no one wastes energy by washing more than they need to. We have a 9kg machine and each one of us fills it each time it is used. The DC and particularly their partners don’t seem to care too much about similar colours; not my issue! As long as they aren’t wasting electricity and water by running tiny loads that’s up to them.

There are a lot of us here and I am not related by blood to everyone. I am not washing the underwear of DC’s partners and nor would they feel comfortable with me doing so. Nor am I going on to take on that thing where it’s the woman’s work to do all the washing. Doing the washing for one young student DD who is back intermittently, or for children, is a very different kettle of fish to our situation.

Glad you’ve got it resolved! Hope your solution lasts you!

@TuftyMarmoset

You have too many jeans if you can do a whole load just for them *@SockFluffInTheBath*!
@TuftyMarmoset

What are you? The clothing police?

LoveSpringDaffs · 14/04/2022 15:24

Pop, forgot it was a dormant thread I was reading (on and old tab on my phone!)

Sorry everyone!!

Good news is, it's great drying weather today 🤣🤣

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 14/04/2022 15:49

My last machine was a Miele and lasted 20 years, a load a day and never broke down once.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 18/04/2022 03:02

My current washing machine is a whirlpool and I've had it since October last year with a load a day.

My previous one was a Beko and lasted 11 years, it had the electrics replaced twice and the bearings replaced a couple of times as well.

Tumble dryers are my nemisis and I get Max 3 years out of each one before it is beyond saving.

Dishwasher has been going for 12 years now with no problems and electric hob and oven is 2 year old and has had one element replacement. Things aren't built to last anymore.

I have a local repair man who does only home appliance repairs, he is fab and has saved my bacon more than once.
