How many washes do you get?

I’ve just killed another washing machine (always bearings) apparently I just use it too much. I do 16 full loads a week and get almost 2 years so say approx 1600 washes. Apparently this is unreasonable bordering commercial Hmm

I’m not after a debate about rewearing pants, just tell me please how many washes do you reckon you get from a machine?

Absolutely no clue!

My current Hotpoint is still fine after 9 and a half years and my awful Indesit washer/dryer had its first repair less than 6 months after we got it and we then had to call out a repair person at least once a year, as it kept going for 10 years until I finally had enough of it.

HolaAmigoz · 19/11/2021 18:00

I do around 10 loads a week and my machines don’t last very long. Last one was just under 2 years and the bearings went. The one before was around 4 years. This one is only 6 months old so fingers crossed it keeps going for a bit.

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 19/11/2021 18:01

Family of 5 and i do 6 loads a week.

Last machine lasted 2yrs and the current one is 18mths and on the way out

mehface · 19/11/2021 18:03

1 a day of clothes
3 loads of towels
1-3 loads of bedsheets
Occasional dog towels or an emergency wash

So let's say 13 a week, check up it manual for the heaviest wash program, my machine is 7kg but only one program is for a 7kg load. Since using this program rather than the hour wash my clothes come out drier, so dry on the airier faster.

megletthesecond · 19/11/2021 18:03

Probably 14 loads a week. My current Bosch is 5 years old.
Can't believe it'll last more than another 18 months.

MissCruellaDeVil · 19/11/2021 18:05

I do 3 loads a week with DH and 2 DC. 16 loads a week is huge! Not surprised they only last 2 years.

CoffeeAndCaramel · 19/11/2021 18:06

I do probably 14 loads a week on average also. My current machine is still going after 7 years!! It's a 9kg indesit innex x

Tuliprain · 19/11/2021 18:07

Yep it’ll be the 16 loads a week!(how?!?!). I do about 4 a week so 16 washes would be my monthly amount!

kowari · 19/11/2021 18:07

I usually do three loads a week and the washing machine was second hand over four years ago. Two years at 16 washes a week sounds reasonable as I'd be happy if I got ten years from a machine.

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 19/11/2021 18:08

I do 5 or 6 loads max a week and that's a family of 4. 16 a week?! How many of you are there?!

applespearsbears · 19/11/2021 18:11

I'm gobsmacked! I do 3-4 loads a week and I've had my machine for 16 years, still going strong.

ShirleyPhallus · 19/11/2021 18:12

Unless you’re Sue Radford then no one needs to be doing 16 loads a week

user1471538283 · 19/11/2021 18:14

I do at least a load a day and there are only 2 of us. When DS was a baby I was accused of using the washer too much but that's what they are for!

I averaged four years out of a washer and I buy a cheaper one. I'm renting and have a beko and it's really good!

JunoMcDuff · 19/11/2021 18:16

Last one was 3 years, 6 loads a week. It was cheap.

One before that was about 8 years, 4-6 loads a week.

overthethamesfromyou · 19/11/2021 18:19

Bought my Miele in 2004 Smile
Family of five, so at least 6 washes a week.
When the man delivered it he said 'This machine will last until your last child leaves home!' He's not wrong so far.

theneverendinglaundry · 19/11/2021 18:22

There are 5 of us. I do clothes laundry 3 times a week, seperate darks colours and whites (3 x 3 = 9), do 2 loads of bedding, and 2 loads of towels. So that's 13 a week minimum. More if DH goes to the gym and brings home stinky clothes.

We don't have a lot of clothes so the load won't always be full, but I have to put it on or we run out of certain things.

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 19/11/2021 18:23

We probably do 10-12 washes a week and tend to get 3 years out of our machines. Doesn't seem very long!

JeanBrash · 19/11/2021 18:24

Probably similar number of washes to you OP but my machines generally last about 12 - 15 years (Bosch or Miele)

Spudlet · 19/11/2021 18:25

Our machine is on life support at the moment - it’s 7 years old and has done one load a day on average since DS was born - he’ll be 6 soon so that’s heading for 2,200 loads. I started studying sports massage in September so that’s made a lot of extra washing too - I have done three loads today and have at least another 3 work loads for the weekend, plus the usual school uniform loads and at some point I am going to need to wash some pants as well… mu last machine must have been 20 or so years old though as it was a hand me down from my Aunty, and although it didn’t do as many loads over a week, over the course of its lifetime it must have done many more than my current one had. Things aren’t built to last any more.

Ohmygodyesthatsit · 19/11/2021 18:31

I hate to be 'that' person but do none of you worry about the environment?

GrrrlPwr · 19/11/2021 18:33

So you wash all everyone's clothes each time they are worn. All the beds changed each week. All towels washed twice a week.
Anything I've missed?

What a ridiculous waste of water and electricity!

Runnerduck34 · 19/11/2021 18:33

Can't believe some families of 4/5 get away with so little washing!!
To answer PPs
family of 6 all DC teenagers/ early twenties so big bulky clothing oversize hoodies etc, work clothes ( working with animals / building) sports clothes so minimum of 1 load each of dark and whites.
Plus towels- bath sheets take up a lot of room,
Bedding, mainly double beds and can't get more than 1 set in the machine at a time. Easily 2-3 loads a day!
OP, buy a Miele, they are about 1k so not too much more than your bosch and they will last for 10 years+ and usually come with a 5 year Guarantee.

Christmas1988 · 19/11/2021 18:33

My dryers broken after just under two years,I didn’t want to throw it away so got a repair man out who said it’s cheaper to buy a new one, why do companies make things that don’t last, or cost more to fix?

HildegardeCrowe · 19/11/2021 18:35

Around 4 loads a week (2 of us), 12 year old Beko. Love love love it.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 19/11/2021 18:36

I’m in my 4th load of the day. How can people only do 4 a week?? I’ve got a 9kg drum as well.
