What are you eating tonight and would you serve it to guests?

Quick meal tonight in our house..........cheap and cheerful!

As I was cooking it I was pondering that it was a family meal and one I wouldn't really serve to "guests". We had cheesy peasy mash with bacon!!! Mash with a bit of cooked onion, cheese and peas added and browned under the grill (the mash and peas were leftovers and the bacon needed finishing off). Cost per serving no more than £1.

Share your "family only" quick meals with me?

Meatballs, mash, onion & mushroom gravy and cabbage. Would definitely serve it to others. It was bloody lovely.

Filled pasta with random veg and garlic chucked in, dollop of cream cheese and dollop of pesto. Didn't look the best so probably not for guests but it tasted yum!

Chicken and chorizo pie with wholegrain mustard mash and peas… and gravy Grin
I would serve it to guests, it’s a solid sort of tea so I wouldn’t do it for anything fancy but for a cosy dinner, it’s ideal.

Leftover chicken bits from the Sunday roast carcass (which has got turned into stock and frozen for soup), onion, basmati rice and the back end of a cauliflower that I found in the fridge. All stuck in the same pan until the rice is done. DH is turning his leftover chicken into something in a tortilla wrap with onions and garlic.

I guess mine could have some cream/creme fraiche added and so turned into a fricassee of some kind if anyone came by, but I'd need a bit more than leftovers!

2 cold leftover sausages from last night, served classily with a packet of Quavers. And followed by a load of Granny Herbal sweets.
In my defence I have an awful cold and didn't feel like anything else.

I wouldn't serve this to guests! Halloween Smile

Carbonara and garlic bread. Probs would serve it to guests as a lunch, but not a main meal.

Chrispackhamspoodle · 17/11/2021 18:59

Hot turkey fillet in a ciabatta roll with salad and pesto.I would serve it for lunch to guests. It was delicious.

Greytminds · 17/11/2021 19:01

Meat free chilli with jacket potatoes here. Wouldn’t serve it to guests except for kids or my close family if they happened to be here.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 17/11/2021 19:02

Pot roast chicken with mushrooms, leeks and cider. Rice and green beans with it.

Yeah I'd serve it to a close friend. Not for a dinner party.

Sagaris · 17/11/2021 19:02

I would have had quiche, buttered new potatoes and peas if the dogs hadn't tripped me up as I was carrying the dinner plate out of the kitchen....Sad

troppibambini6 · 17/11/2021 19:03

Heinz tomato soup and a toasted bagel.
No I wouldn't serve it to a guest, I'm just getting over COVID and really off my food.

SweeneyToddler · 17/11/2021 19:03

Leftover homemade lasagne that was in the freezer, and lots of different salads that need to be used up.

Not sure if I’d serve it to guests as it’s a bit of a mish-mash. We have green salad, Greek salad with feta and olives, some kind of a Waldorf type thing with chicken, and a carrot and cauliflower salad with sumac and zhug.

MarigoldMoonStone · 17/11/2021 19:04

Chorizo and sweetcorn risotto, which was originally a hello fresh recipe but I have made it again for myself quite a few times now. I would serve it to guests.

Lemonsandlemonade · 17/11/2021 19:05

Jacket Potato cheese and beans - I would only serve this to MIL who loves said dish.

MrsPleasant · 17/11/2021 19:06

I roasted a load of veg then put some halloumi on top and returned to oven for a bit. Served with pesto thinned with a little more oil. Very nice and would share quite happily, tho it will not win any presentation awards.

MissSmiley · 17/11/2021 19:07

Shepherds pie and we had a guest, although I had to do a section without peas to keep the adult guest happy 🙄

indecisivewoman81 · 17/11/2021 19:09

We had salmon with mustard, chilli and chia seeds, jacket potato and veg. Was lovely. Would serve it to adult guests (my small children won't eat it though)

Newchallenge · 17/11/2021 19:10

Ohhh battered fish, oven chips and peas.
Would serve to kids but not guests!

CocoandCleo · 17/11/2021 19:11

Halloumi and black bean tacos with potato wedges. Would deffo serve to guests Smile

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 17/11/2021 19:11

Burger and wedges with coleslaw and corn on the cob. Depends who was coming to dinner, good friends or my mum then yes but dinner party type meal then no

Ringsender2 · 17/11/2021 19:12

Beans on buttery toast with black pepper and grated cheese. Mmmmmmmmm! Comfort baby mush.

Would only serve it to very good friends!!

CottonSock · 17/11/2021 19:12

Chilli and rice. Unusual for a mid week. I would serve to guests, but not a dinner party.... not that those exist in my life now

WinifredTheWondrous · 17/11/2021 19:12

Probably just a sandwich later (I had a fairly substantial lunch). Very early start for work tomorrow so need a quick meal and then to bed really

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 17/11/2021 19:13

Wild salmon, broccoli spears, cauliflower, green beans, tartare sauce. Would jazz up the veg with baked mini potatoes in olive oil, rosemary and sea salt if I had guests.
