What are you eating tonight and would you serve it to guests?

Quick meal tonight in our house..........cheap and cheerful!

As I was cooking it I was pondering that it was a family meal and one I wouldn't really serve to "guests". We had cheesy peasy mash with bacon!!! Mash with a bit of cooked onion, cheese and peas added and browned under the grill (the mash and peas were leftovers and the bacon needed finishing off). Cost per serving no more than £1.

Share your "family only" quick meals with me?

Potato and chickpea curry with homemade Naan bread. Would serve up a portion for anyone who happened to be here, but wouldn't invite people over and serve it if you see what I mean!

RampantIvy · 17/11/2021 18:31

And a couple of glasses of Les Cardinaux wine.

badlydrawnbear · 17/11/2021 18:33

We had enchilada pie from the bbc good food website. It was nice but not suitable for guests.
OP, my DC want your dinner. They love cheesy peasy pasta, they love cheese and potato pie, they love bacon, it’s a combination of all these things.

I'm going to have a snickers bar in a bit and no, I definitely wouldn't share with guests! 😂

GlumyGloomer · 17/11/2021 18:33

Well, for guests I wouldn't cheat on the veg

LoveComesQuickly · 17/11/2021 18:33

Paella (with a frozen seafood mix) and peas. Yes.

Winniemarysarah · 17/11/2021 18:33

@Keepapromise

I did a gousto meal (tacos) and it was lush so yes I would serve it for guests but on a normal Wednesday it would have been something random from the cupboard/freezer eg pasta or fish fingers so probably not.
We have gousto and my children have very exotic tastes and tend to pick the more unusual meals. I’ve had to turn down children asking to come to tea sometimes because I know my children get fed chicken nuggets/pizza at their house (which is fine), but if we’re having a gousto night I worry that they’re not going to like it. So I generally don’t feed guests as they’re mostly children and my foods a bit posh 😂

Pasta bake; red onion, garlic, courgette, mushrooms, mozzarella, passata, Parmesan and panko. Would definitely serve it

Hodgehog · 17/11/2021 18:34

I am having a jacket potato with chilli con carne. I did not make the chilli it came from a tin.

I like it but no I wouldn’t serve it to guests !

Tanfastic · 17/11/2021 18:35

Egg sandwich so probably not Grin

vampirethriller · 17/11/2021 18:35

Leftover pumpkin risotto with sausages and broccoli. I would, it was very nice.

SFisnotsimple · 17/11/2021 18:35

Fajitas made from scratch with homemade guacamole and salsa

Yes - have a guest as well tonight!

Bloodybridget · 17/11/2021 18:36

We're having lamb leg steaks, and I found a recipe for Greek-style layered potatoes, tomatoes and olives baked in the oven with the lamb added on top for the last 15 minutes. If it turns out nice, I would serve to guests.

Postdatedpandemic · 17/11/2021 18:37

Veggie fritters made with gram flour for starters and then minestrone soup.
I have fair few friends who would join us for it but wouldn't serve for planned guests.

TinyTroubleMaker · 17/11/2021 18:38

Beans on toast, rice pudding
And yes don't see why not if they're hungry...

SpittinKitten · 17/11/2021 18:38

Red wine shepherd's pie with a cheese leek topping, and home grown PSB. Wouldn’t serve to guests because any I don't eat is going in my freezer, just for me Grin

Autumnscene · 17/11/2021 18:43

floured chicken cooked in oil to brown with paprika, lower heat to fry chopped onion and garlic, then add stock, boil a bit and add thick cream .. served with pasta.. amazing.. yes for guests.

ParkheadParadise · 17/11/2021 18:43

Scotch Pie, chips and beans.
Jelly and ice cream
Just me and dd having dinner tonight DH is out for dinner.
I would serve it to my family. Wouldn't serve it if I'd invited friends over for dinner.

Fredstheteds · 17/11/2021 18:45

Mary Berry herby casserole

MrsAvocet · 17/11/2021 18:45

We're having a Moroccan lamb stew type thing with couscous. It's a recipe I've not tried before so I don't know whether I'd serve it to guests or not, but it smells quite good so far. I'll let you know in about an hour and a half!

JackieCollinshasnoauthority · 17/11/2021 18:47

We're having "posh" potato smiles that got substituted for something and have been living in the freezer since. So, that's a no for guests.

mbosnz · 17/11/2021 18:48

It was supposed to be chicken casserole and vege, or shepherd's pie and vege.

Due to good academic news, and peri-menopausal cravings it has changed to Chicken Creamy onion, and yes, I'd be happy to serve that to guests. Actually, I'd be happy to serve any of the three to guests. .

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 17/11/2021 18:50

We’re going to have spaghetti bolognese and yes, I would serve it to guests. However we’re having a very basic meal tonight because we’ve had lots of rich meals over the past few days - no extras, no vegetable sides. If we had people over I’d’ve roasted some courgettes too and maybe also made some garlic bread and served some olives.

HollyandIvyandAllThingsYule · 17/11/2021 18:51

Also your cheesy peasy mash with bacon sounds tasty! I’d happily have that if I were invited over...

Greenrubber · 17/11/2021 18:51

We had bean stew with lemon potatoes, crispy tofu, Bulgar wheat salad and some broccoli that needed using up

Although it was tasty I would not feed it to any guests
