Has the recent news made you anxious about going to big cities? I'm due to go to London the end of this week and I feel uneasy about it, I cant decide if to go.

OP posts:
DeJaDont · 15/11/2021 19:34

I'm in Liverpool and absolutely not worried at all.

dottiedodah · 15/11/2021 19:35

I hear you! I went to London last week and felt a little anxious. All passed off well .You will have a great time Im sure .We actually lived in London as a child, and DM had to travel to work during the IRA bombings. Nervous ,but all well. The recent bombing was in Liverpool anyway ,but I think all big cities could be a target . We have to live our lives !

I can see your point. All these people saying “well I live there” obviously have no choice but you do. Peop[/quote]
I don’t live there AND have been caught in a terrorist attack and I still think OP is being ridiculous.

Sorry @Waxonwaxoff0 Wink

Rainydayss · 15/11/2021 19:36

fair points, I was keen to get opinions - some nasty tones unnecessary.

OP posts:
HideousKinky · 15/11/2021 19:37

No it hasn't - I'm going to London on Thursday

saraclara · 15/11/2021 19:37

London is absolutely HUGE.

The chance of you being there on the day, in the exact same few yards at the exact moment that anything happened is just vanishingly small. So yes, you might be feeling anxious, but it's entirely unwarranted.

Changechangychange · 15/11/2021 19:37

@RoseRedRoseBlue

For goodness sake, get a grip! You do realise that the last two incidents were not in London?
Bound to be us next then, isn’t it? Stay away tourists! I’m used to always getting a seat on the tube now Grin
RedHot22 · 15/11/2021 19:37

That’s fine

It’s also fine for me to empathise with the OP

Comefromaway · 15/11/2021 19:38

@Bigkingdom

What’s been happening? I don’t watch the news lol I actually live in South London but going into central London tomorrow.
There was a car bomb outside Liverpool Women’s Hospital yesterday.
kirinm · 15/11/2021 19:38

It hadn't even occurred to me to be nervous to be honest and I live in London.

LoveComesQuickly · 15/11/2021 19:38

I don't live in London but I'm going there this weekend and am not worried at all.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 15/11/2021 19:38

@RedHot22

……le also live in Beirut but I try and avoid there too
Beirut is hardly comparable to London though is it. What a stupid comment.
breadrollz · 15/11/2021 19:39

I think it's ok to be anxious OP however we have to just get on with it as it could be anywhere. I'm a born & raised Londoner & was certainly a little anxious the days after 7/7. I think the threat being higher is better in a way as people are more vigilant.

AlbasJudgementalCrucifix · 15/11/2021 19:40

Beirut has always been rather lovely actually……

RedHot22 · 15/11/2021 19:40

I’m not comparing it 😂

Perhaps saying “well I live there” is stupid

It's okay to be anxious OP, some people(a lot of people) on mumsnet just seem to enjoy being twats to others. If you aren't from a big city it can feel scary, I had never been on a plane before the twin towers and despite lots of planes going about everyday with nothing happening it made me nervous and took 6 years before I would go on one. You'll be fine OP, but I do hope all the people making horrible comments are happy with themselves. When someone is anxious laughing, taking the piss and being nasty aren't usually particularly helpful Hmm

Hopefully we have some of best , capable intelligence services personal, and other sectors of different military branches ect, small or large cities anywhere can be a risk, yes some areas e.g. London may be more of a risk, but in general you can head to a bunker, which as nice as it is, or we can carry on and hope for the best, but have good situational awareness skills, when out and about.
ShirleyPhallus · 15/11/2021 19:44

Why do these threads always pop up whenever there is any kind of incident? Do people think that Londoners are just hidden away, shaking like little leaves at going out our houses but the big brave tourists are right to be asking the question of if they’ll be safe?

HeartsAndClubs · 15/11/2021 19:44

If people stay away from cities out of fear then terrorists need never do anything ever again, because they’ve already won. Blow up a car in one part of the country and the hope is that they will spread enough fear to stop people going about their normal lives. So by not doing things you’re playing right into the hands of those you want to avoid.

Secondly, it never ceases to amaze me that when something happens somewhere there are people out there who are keen to make it all about them.

Rainydayss · 15/11/2021 19:47

Thank you for those who are helpful. I will go and enjoy myself, I just wanted opinions not a backlash of angry comments - probably also ranting on the covid threads to people who may be anxious.

OP posts:
RoseRedRoseBlue · 15/11/2021 19:50

It’s not ranting, it’s exasperation.

@HeartsAndClubs you make a very good point.

Herewegoagain84 · 15/11/2021 19:51

No.

Iflyaway · 15/11/2021 19:52

OP, I'm sorry people have been unkind. MN can be harsh and nasty sometimes

Just go and have a fantastic time.

WheelieBinPrincess · 15/11/2021 19:53

Well you could argue that is potentially safer to go during a period of high alert.

speckledcat · 15/11/2021 19:53

I can't understand why everyone is being so unpleasant to OP. I'm sorry you are anxious about your visit. I hope you go and enjoy your trip.
