Great. DD is getting a lift in a car with no rear seatbelts.

She’s a big DD, 12, not a toddler, but even so. I shared the driving with her friend’s dad to an event.

She’s texted me to say there are no seatbelts. It’s an hour drive Sad

She won’t be getting a lift with him again, but god, what a tool.

There’s no point me saying anything. I don’t know why I’m typing this really.

I'd be furious and phoning her with her phone on loud speaker and telling them in no uncertain terms to pull over and wait for me to get there to pick her up.

That's absolutely disgusting behaviour from them.

sittingonacornflake · 13/11/2021 16:02

Also, even if she swapped it's still incredibly dangerous to be in a car with someone not belted in. We've all heard the horror stories of unbelted passengers being thrown out of their seats with such force they've killed other belted passengers on their way out the car.

Whitefire · 13/11/2021 16:09

How far is she off home? Hopefully she gets home safely.

SheWoreYellow · 13/11/2021 16:15

She’s just home, well a few minutes ago.

She says two of the three rear seatbelts were broken.

In all honesty I’d be shopping them to the police for a pull

I’m not normally a busybody type but seatbelts for me are non negotiable

LifeIsTricky · 13/11/2021 16:21

That's awful OP. It shouldn't happen and I'm appalled on your behalf. However, that doesn't fix the current situation. You're probably worried sick, the likelihood of anything happening is tiny so please try not to drive yourself wild with worry (easier said than done), keep texting her, try not to worry her too, and think about what you may say to the parents if anything. Here with a handhold until she's home safely to you

Henrynextdoor · 13/11/2021 16:21

Home safeSmile
I'd be absolutely furious if this happened with my DD and would phone the driver to let them know.

LifeIsTricky · 13/11/2021 16:21

Cross post with you! Sorry, so glad to hear she's home safe though

Whitefire · 13/11/2021 16:22

Pleased she is home, don't torment yourself with "what if's" but don't let her go in the car again.

pianolessons1 · 13/11/2021 16:22

Wait a week then report him to the police anonymously. That's an MOT fail.

SheWoreYellow · 13/11/2021 16:27

I wish I’d thought to phone the police when they were on their way.

She’s never having anything to do with him again.

Do you have a WhatsApp or Facebook group? I would say something about it, because you will never do a lift share with them again but someone else might. You don't have to name names. Something like "Just a reminder if you are doing lift shares to check that the other vehicle is safe. I didn't do that and my DD came home in a car that didn't have a working seat belt for her seat."

TableFlowerss · 13/11/2021 16:32

Totally confused how a car can have no seat belts. I just understand!

TableFlowerss · 13/11/2021 16:33

don’t

girlmom21 · 13/11/2021 16:34

Did his child get the working one? Tosser.
TatianaBis · 13/11/2021 16:34

Try not to worry OP, we all survived the 70s with no seatbelts before it was a thing.

Plenty of people didn't survive, which is why seatbelts were made mandatory.

Only out of pure luck.

They were broken. I don’t know how.

OP please report him to the police today, or tell him you're going to, because theres nothing to say another passenger won't be in his car again soon and not be as fortunate as your daughter.

Camii · 13/11/2021 16:38

Glad she's ok.
What a horrible experience for you both.
Like you said, I'd have absolutely nothing more to do with them.
Just mad how people are so cavalier with other people's safety

🙄🙄🙄

What a totally stupid comment.

Whatinthelord · 13/11/2021 16:39

I’d be fuming.
Do you feel able to mention it to them. I think I’d have to mention it.
Like other suggested I’d report to police, especially if you know times/places he drives kids in it (such as school pick up).

BlusteringBoobies · 13/11/2021 16:40

This isn't good app

BUT I'm also very surprised by how many people said to report to the police given this thread last week where OP was accused of overreacting

I know it was a much shorter journey accidents happen

To report this mum to the police - let my DD ride without a seatbelt http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4396627-to-report-this-mum-to-the-police-let-my-dd-ride-without-a-seatbelt

SheWoreYellow · 13/11/2021 16:40

girlmom they kind of tried to share it between two of them, so I think it was kind of fluid.
