Please inspire me as I always think of a reason not to go .

I’ve had a horrible few short runs this week I really struggled to keep going and it’s knocking my running confidence.

I’m laying in my lovely warm bed with my children and trying to justify talking myself out of going …….however I’ve always been absolutely buzzing when I’ve finished my run so I’m getting up now and get my stuff on. I can walk it if need be.

Have a good run everyone x

BogRollBOGOF · 04/12/2021 08:25

I'm getting ready. Missed a few weeks for a number of reasons. Local ones were cancelled last week. DS2 has planatar fasciitis so he's currently on 2ks but on a temporary ban on 5k. We have done some volunteering. DS1 will be 11 this month so he's biding his time until he can run it at his own pace as he likes to run/ walk in his own time. I think left to himself, he'll pace himself better.

Guardup · 04/12/2021 09:43

Was worth getting up for me today. A PB (I think) and this wonderful view

So, who's doing Parkrun in the morning?
CalmConfident · 04/12/2021 10:56

Thanks to an unexpected evening out…I was still asleep and totally missed the touring plan I had made. Managed to get to my local just in time to walk round, chat with a friend coming back from injury and nurse my raging hangover Grin

FlamesEmbersAshes · 04/12/2021 11:54

Well, I did go in the end. I wore my calf supports, had a gentle jog round and it was fine. It was actually quite nice to do it without putting any pressure on myself to run faster! Really enjoyed it.

shakingmytambourineatyou · 04/12/2021 12:17

Well, I was back there today after a week off. Sooo hard to get up and go. But really glad I did. I'm now home, showered and fed and feeling good Grin. Even got the feeling back in my fingers,... I am taking gloves next week!. Well done everyone. I am so jealous of the photos of the beautiful scenery and water, mine's just a plain old muddy park.

In the end, I just did my local - all tourism plans on hold (except doing the nearest when visiting relatives over Christmas)

My local is in a park - not as impressive a lake as Guardup's, but there are swans

Stylinson · 05/12/2021 17:59

I found it really hard yesterday and was really surprised to get a PB - by 2 seconds!

Awesome! I got a pb too. I've had some races recently and a quiet week so had a good feeling about the possibility.
TurquoiseDragon · 05/12/2021 21:32

I've never done Park Run, as I've never felt fit enough. I'm massively overweight, although I shifted 2 stone + over the last year simply from all the walking I've done now that I wfh.

I think I feel like I can't do it because my ex negged me all the time, and I now realise he sabotaged my attempts to lose weight and get fit.

If I tried Park run, I'd be likely to be mostly walking and attempting some jogging along the way. Would this be acceptable? I'd be looking to begin in the New Year.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/12/2021 21:59

TurquoiseDragon - absolutely. There's always a tail walker to come in last, behind the joggers/walkers. That's actually my favourite volunteer role as you meet some great people at the back Smile. Give it a go!

Stylinson · 05/12/2021 21:59

Walking with a bit of jogging is completely normal at parkrun. Go for it. There are always people at ours who walk the whole thing. And if you’re competitive like me, trying to be a bit quicker than you were the week before is really motivating! I’d never run when I went along in July to my first parkrun. 15 parkrun’s later I still can’t run the whole thing without having a couple of little walking breaks, but I’m getting closer.

Ah. Don't wait. Just go. You'll be fine and lots just walk the whole 5k. If you're brave and want to tell the volunteers how you feel, you will get a lot of encouragement. And you'll never be last!: Do report back Turquoise

@TurquoiseDragon I put off doing Parkrun for ages as I was too intimidated. But honestly, I needn’t have been. All shapes, sizes, ages and abilities run, walk or jog at Parkrun and everyone is encouraged. It’s brilliant.

TurquoiseDragon · 06/12/2021 12:15

Sounds good, then. I want to try things I never thought I could, and this would help me mix up the necessary exercise.

Guardup · 06/12/2021 14:52

@TurquoiseDragon oh please do go! How you feel, I’m sure, is how we all felt when we turned up for the first time. I still get butterflies in my tummy when I turn up now to be honest. It’s just such a friendly place and the feeling you get when you finish it is so worth the struggle to get round. You could walk, skip, hop, jog or run your way round my local Parkrun and all you’ll get is encouragement, a bit of clapping and lots of smiles as you make your way round.

Please let us know if you decide to give it a go x

CalmConfident · 08/12/2021 21:59

Absolutely come along ASAP @TurquoiseDragon you will be made very welcome. One of my lovely parkrun friends walked the course for over 2 years…she got nothing but encouragement and inspired so many others (including me) with her determination.

TurquoiseDragon · 08/12/2021 22:58

Thank you for the confidence boost. I have commitments up until Xmas, but I'll get some knee support and trainers and have a go in the New Year.

CorpusCallosum · 08/12/2021 23:11

Yay @TurquoiseDragon do it! Before Covid I went from run-walking to jogging the whole lot. I'm now 3rd trimester pg so I stick a podcast on my earphones and walk it...slowly 😂 The volunteers still clap for me and bump as we waddle round even if we are stopping them getting home 💜

We've been to park runs all over the country and it's always such a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, you'll be grand 🏃‍♀️

shakingmytambourineatyou · 10/12/2021 18:07

Are we all raring to go? I am frozen at the moment. Just had a giant bar of chocolate to build up some fat cells for energy Smile
Best to prepare!

Cornishmumofone · 10/12/2021 18:30

I bought a big tub of chocolates today to take to parkrun. Tomorrow will be my 350th run and my 200th at my home event :-)

shakingmytambourineatyou · 10/12/2021 18:32

Wow. That's some achievement. Well done x

Had my covid booster today so fingers crossed for the morning. Already decided to stay local rather than touring.

CalmConfident · 10/12/2021 22:16

Fabulous @Cornishmumofone Star

Peckhampalace · 10/12/2021 22:37

@Cornishmumofone that's brilliant, have a great run.
I am back to barcode scanning tomorrow (favourite volunteer role) after a couple of weeks off.
Hope it's not too cold.
