We’re in Hastings for the weekend so going to do a bit of parkrun tourism. Looking forward to a run along the seafront.
I’ve got Long Covid though, so it’ll be a very slow run/walk

chutneypig · 06/11/2021 07:25

I missed parkrun so much I’ll always go if I can. Agree with PPs that getting the clothing right this time of year makes a difference, to the run and how you feel before and after. I go for layers as I’m a terrible judge of how warm I’ll get. Is there something as treat after that will help you get out the door? Nice coffee or something like that?

It’ll be drier than last weekend I hope. I felt like I was swimming in a 10K on Sunday,

Congratulations @CalmConfident! My husband got 200 last week and I only realised when I checked the results. He’s never as interested in the milestones as I am.

I found the new app great @ShirazSavedMySanity. I did barcode scanning before the app and didn’t really enjoy it, so much easier with the app, it can’t go wrong. I even did timekeeping last month which I’ve always said I wouldn’t do and it was quite fun. My daughter was the other timekeeper so we were a bit nervous beforehand!

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

I've always wanted to... but the idea of driving 30mins, to do a run to drive 30 mins home puts me off. Especially when I live opposite nice woods.
Do it sometime. I'm similar; the woods are there every day but Saturday is parkrun day I have an entry for a much postponed 10k today. Can't be bothered now so parkrun it is. Just running today.uch slower than before lockdown but here we go Dfyb everyone
brizzlewizzle · 06/11/2021 07:30

It's Saturday, it's Parkrunday!!

megletthesecond · 06/11/2021 07:32

I'm having a rare weekend off. I'm getting twitchy but I need a quiet start today. Will be exercising later.

Guardup · 06/11/2021 07:33

I am! I shouldn’t as it’s my daughters birthday party and I’ve got a million things to do to prepare, but it’s the absolute best start to the weekend.
It’s my 8th run, but my friends 100th!

@CalmConfident wow! 200 - that’s impressive!

DialsMavis · 06/11/2021 07:34

Me! I have only been twice, first time in August as the stars need to align with DH being at home, my friend going and no late night plans the night before.... And today they have Smile

Donatella · 06/11/2021 07:35

@catchthat

Me! Laid my gear out last night ready. I'm pretty slow (35/36 mins). We have pace makers at ours today so hoping for a PB. What to eat beforehand though?
I've gone with porridge 😁 for once I'm up early enough to eat a decent breakfast and have time to digest it before I run. That plus new fancy trainers should be enough for a PB right? 😂
Carbuncula · 06/11/2021 07:42

Interested in registering as DH and I both need to be fitter, but I'm nervous after a bad experience with a "beginners" running club where I was humiliated.

It looks like it's OK to take one dog, depending on the location?

DownWhichOfLate · 06/11/2021 07:42

Eat a banana. Wear enough clothing that you are cool (but not freezing) before you start running as you will warm up. Probably a short s sleeved top and 3/4 leggings today should suffice. Good luck!

Indoctro · 06/11/2021 07:44

Me..just having my toast and peanut butter then will get ready

It's absolutely lashing down outside and I haven't run in 10 days due to a chesty cough (negative pcr)

So I will just be doing a slow jog

catchthat · 06/11/2021 07:44

@Donatella funnily enough I'm the same, normally up in time to eat a banana in the car on my way! I've gone with porridge too.

catchthat · 06/11/2021 07:45

Says 9 degrees here, so short sleeve too and full length leggings for me. I'll take a coat to wear until just before the start, leave it hanging on the fence until the end!

HugeAckmansWife · 06/11/2021 07:48

I've got out of the habit, like a pp said. I do wish it was a tiny bit later, even 9.30 would be better. I do think it's an absolutely brilliant initiative though.. Run by fantastic volunteers. I do volunteer at the kids one quite often and really enjoy that. To the pp who said you're thinking about going, do, it is lovely and supportive.. I'm just too lazy / warm to bother but I 100% recommend it.

Indoctro · 06/11/2021 07:49

I've done 30 and 13 volunteer roles and I see you can now get a 25 t shirt

I'm going to wait and get to 50 before I buy my first t shirt Smile

I'm excited for it - very sad I know Grin

Every one I've been to has been so welcoming. All abilities and fitness levels. Some run, some run/walk/run, some walk it all. The atmosphere is fantastic. I think dogs just have to be on a short lead at all times, but some courses don't allow them, so check your local course page.

It's 9.30 in Scotland which is a good time I must admit.

I'm in Scotland

megletthesecond · 06/11/2021 07:50

carb you can walk parkrun, the tail walkers will always be behind you. Some do dogs and some don't. I quite like watching the nutty dogs tearing off at the front, but other people wander along with little dogs.
I think you need to get there for 8:50 for the first timer welcome chat. With your barcode.

I think it's the clock change last week - I've been waking up early all week.

Gnome134 · 06/11/2021 07:51

Volunteering for me today. Everyone running have a great time!

You can take one dog per person, and the dog must be on a short lead at all times.

Dogs are OK, unless venue specifically bans them (and even then assstance dogs can still go)

If it's first time for the dog, I recommend you start towards the back where there's plenty of space, and then adjust over time depending on your speed and how the dog finds running in a group.

You're not allowed to run with a dog and a buggy

If you find yourself with an excess dog, and you have one which is happy to be left, you're bound to find a volunteer who is happy to have a furry assistant whilst you run.

Indoctro · 06/11/2021 07:54

@Carbuncula

Absolutely do it. I do the tail walking roles with my kids sometimes and at our event there is always at least 5 walkers , who always just walk it

It's not just for runners they welcome walkers too.

60 minutes is the normal time of day for the tailwalker to finish which is 20 minutes per mile which is a brisk walk

You will love it and honestly everyone is so welcoming

Remember all the "workers" their are volunteers and are doing the roles because they love encouraging people and seeing people out having fun

You will get nothing but support and will leave feeling proud of yourself Smile

mpsssm · 06/11/2021 08:09

Park run here too. Going through a but if a miserable time at the moment and find weekends hard. Park run cheers me up for the day. Run with my 11year old who is now delighted that she is old enough to not have to stay within arms reach and charges off ahead.

Pacing event for us too

shakingmytambourineatyou · 06/11/2021 08:23

Morning. I am up and getting ready. Enjoy it everyone. I know I always feel better for going x
