Who do you donate to?

Interested to know who people are charitably giving to these days and why.
I’ve always done a regular small DD donation to MSF after having my baby. It was horrific and I felt dreadful for women who weren’t safety in the first world like I was.
I give an odd bit for Palestine every year because I’m “angry” .
I love dogs and have had a couple of rescue dogs until recently. I now give a bit for a dogs charity that neuters dogs in Europe because it’s better than rehoming what are essentially feral dogs.
I do my local schools lottery because they need funds, as do I.

Interested to see MN trends.

I give to Crisis and the Christmas appeal by the Salvation Army. The main charity I support is Aspire which is for people with spinal injuries.
Lightisnotwhite - you need to be careful giving money to Palestine because I’m afraid of it does not reach the people you want to help, but goes to Hezbolah and Hamas.

I don't donate. If I had the money to, I would only donate to charities that help children.

Inclinedtochatter · 05/11/2021 20:20

I have a monthly direct debit set up for Blood Cancer UK. I had Hodgkins Lymphoma so it's my way of saying thanks.

ExcessiveIyDisorganised · 05/11/2021 20:20

I do the lotteries for the local air ambulance, children's hospice and adult's hospice. I moved away from the big national/international charities a few years ago, partly due to the Oxfam scandal.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/11/2021 20:21

Animal and children's charities mostly, also to Mind and a local homeless charity.

Gingernaut · 05/11/2021 20:21

BHF - disease hit my family
Local hospice - disease hit my family
Samaritans - suicide 'runs' in my family

Pumpkinsonparade · 05/11/2021 20:24

I swap animal charities every year.. Currently on Cat's Protection.
Did water aid for a few years...

Spunout · 05/11/2021 20:25

Welsh Air Ambulance monthly.

Plump82 · 05/11/2021 20:26

I make a donation that comes out my wage each month before I'm paid to Pancreatic cancer charity as my dad passed away from this.

mobear · 05/11/2021 20:30

Mayhew and the small local charity I adopted my cat from.

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 05/11/2021 20:30

SANDS

ImSoMagical · 05/11/2021 20:32

Action aid and NSPCC monthly. Then make a monthly donation to whatever charity we decide that month (eg if someone we know is fundraising etc) it's difficult to choose because we have limited funds and there are so many charities.

Violetparis · 05/11/2021 20:35

NSPCC and Durham Miner's Gala

MinnieMountain · 05/11/2021 20:36

The RNLI. I grew up by the sea and DGM and her sister used to fundraise for them.
Cancer Research.

MinnieMountain · 05/11/2021 20:36

And Shelter.

DaisyDozyDee · 05/11/2021 20:36

Our charity direct debits were set up in a post-election fug of misery. They’re spread across organisations that help the people that the government won’t help.

RaoulDufysCat · 05/11/2021 20:38

Shelter, the WWF and MSF.

FOJN · 05/11/2021 20:39

Currently the local air ambulance and Battersea but thinking of changing the Battersea DD to a local animal charity.

MrsDThomas · 05/11/2021 20:40

I dont. Done my fair share of collecting when doing many races.

Buy the odd raffle ticket but otherwise no.

I donate to the sick childrens' trust as I know how hard it is on families when a child is hospilatised and I do my Amazon shop through an afiliate link so the charity benefits.

As well as those three charities I also donate to a local animal rescue charity and a local hospice.

usernamealreadytaken · 05/11/2021 20:43

I do our local hospice lottery, donate to the local dog rescue centre and give to the local homeless shelter and to the Maggie Oliver Foundation. I'd far rather give my little bit to small places where it will really make a difference. Reluctant to give to bigger/national/international charities these days because of ridiculous executive salaries and so little of the donations actually going to charitable causes. Having worked in a charity, the amount of questionable spending was one of the reasons I left.

Lightisnotwhite · 05/11/2021 20:45

mdh2020 I am aware they are flawed hence no regular donation.
However the hypocrisy of Israel annoys me no end. Just admit you behave horribly. The Russians, Chinese, Taliban etc are quite happy to stand up and be counted. Annnywaay…

Breast Cancer Campaign - my mum and aunt both died from breast cancer

The Fox Project - amazing people doing amazing work on a shoestring, I've also volunteered for them for the past 3 years

Folly Wildlife Rescue - another amazing wildlife charity. I did some voluntary work for them and was lucky enough to be trained by the founder (before she sadly passed away)

Urban Squirrels - a London based squirrel charity / rescue. When I was unemployed and struggling with my MH, feeding the squirrels in my local park was the only thing that kept me sane!

Stepney City Farm - they do wonderful work with the local community in what is is still one of the poorest areas in England

Coronado2 · 05/11/2021 20:46

My NHS trusts staff lottery, two local animal sanctuaries, UNICEF, refuge, water aid and the trussell trust (I think that's the name, the run the local food bank).

LaurieFairyCake · 05/11/2021 20:46

Dogs (I support the rescue that gave me my dog - about £50 a month)
Donkeys (£20 a month)
Cancer (£20 a month)
My big issue woman (£15 a month)
