Who do you donate to?

Interested to know who people are charitably giving to these days and why.
I’ve always done a regular small DD donation to MSF after having my baby. It was horrific and I felt dreadful for women who weren’t safety in the first world like I was.
I give an odd bit for Palestine every year because I’m “angry” .
I love dogs and have had a couple of rescue dogs until recently. I now give a bit for a dogs charity that neuters dogs in Europe because it’s better than rehoming what are essentially feral dogs.
I do my local schools lottery because they need funds, as do I.

Interested to see MN trends.

I also support a local charity - beddown. It sets up temporary beds in unused city spaces etc multi storey car parks so that the homeless can have a good nights sleep in a safe environment.

Monthly direct debit to church, daughter’s school and to a small charity in Zimbabwe.

Also do extensive fundraising for a breast cancer charity as I’ve had it myself. Do also regularly sponsor friends and family, as well as random fundraisers that pull at my heartstrings. I firmly believe that we have all we need and it’s a responsibility and a privilege to give.

Turtles25 · 05/11/2021 21:18

I have a direct debit with Make a Wish and my DH has one with Alzeimers Research UK. I like to give at Christmas to a homeless charity as well. Id love to give more if I could afford it.

Sooverthemill · 05/11/2021 21:18

Monthly donations to the Trussell Trust ( started during first lockdown), RNLI as DH swims daily and regular and Xmas donations to the charity that focuses on the medical conditions DD suffers from. One off to disasters and Syrian refugees when I feel I have extra.

I also give money to a lot of gofundme. This is always people who I don't know. Their story breaks my heart.
Pheebs2021 · 05/11/2021 21:22

Trussell trust I thank my lucky stars I don't have to walk around the supermarket counting pennies I feel its my duty to look after others. Not much granted but enough for a nutritious meal for a family.

playmelikeasymphony · 05/11/2021 21:26

I don’t make regular donations as I’m on benefits due to disability. But one local charity gets a lot of my time and I support another (whose work I benefited from as a child) by shopping via things like amazon prime. And I sometimes drop my change in the fundraising jar at McDonalds since a friend was able to stay in a Ronald McDonald house when her kid was sick.

Local food bank
Shelter
Miscarriage association
Tommys
Sands

A local animal sanctuary
I'm finding it hard to find good animal charities to donate to these days there seems a difficulty with corruption/high admin fees now

Not regularly as on a ltd income but when I can and when they're fundraising though I tend with the food bank to send a donation at times of the year when I know donations tend to be low eg January, during summer holidays etc

I also do things like donate clothes, knit blankets and scarves etc although I'm behind this year

When there's an opportunity to "round up" when paying for things I'll opt in unless it's a charity I'm very wary of

Sponsor friends in their fundraising efforts when I can sometimes only £5 but they always say thanks

maofteens · 05/11/2021 21:35

I have a direct debit for Shelter, as I think having a roof over your head is fundamental. Also Red Cross. Then every time I shop at my local Waitrose I donate to the food bank there - they list the top five most wanted items. I also sponsor friends - most recently someone walking 500,000 steps this month fir Great Ormond St. And of course o donate household items and clothes to local charity shops.
Now at Christmas time I will donate toys for those who may not otherwise get any.

aModernClassic · 05/11/2021 21:42

itssarcasmjoan · 05/11/2021 22:01

So
Local hospice
Brighter beginnings - supporting local families in need and in refuges etc
Local animal shelter

doadeer · 05/11/2021 22:02

Disability charity
Local food bank
All monthly direct debits

RhinestoneCowgirl · 05/11/2021 22:04

Food bank through Ocado and a monthly standing order to Women's Aid.

Iwant2move · 05/11/2021 22:09

Wales Air Ambulance and Brake. Wales Air Ambulance did their best to try to save my husband’s life. Unfortunately, the M6 to Stoke in the rush hour and during a blizzard meant I was too late to say goodbye.

whiteroseredrose · 05/11/2021 22:12

Loads over the years. I always had a few on give as you earn. I change charities when I change employer!

Currently Wildlife Trust, Woodland Trust and Keep the Ban. Will be adding an insect charity and Badger charity soon. Just need their proper names. I give to Teenage Cancer Trust too, but ad hoc. Mainly through fear.

I'm planning on supporting mainly environmental charities as that is my number 1 concern.

Dinosauraddict · 05/11/2021 22:25

Monthly - Alzheimer's Society and MacMillan as they have both supported family members. I also volunteer time for the former. Then each month I pick an extra charity to donate to (often an animal one). I also give to the food bank and the charity shop each month, plus some extra ones at Christmas (Crisis in particular). I keep planning to add BHF as a monthly but honestly keep forgetting - perhaps this is the prod I need to sort that out (my DGM died from heart failure last year).

Dinosauraddict · 05/11/2021 22:26

@RhinestoneCowgirl - we use Ocado but haven't heard of a food bank donation option through them? Grateful for any insight as I would happily add that for each weekly shop...

50ShadesOfCatholic · 05/11/2021 22:28

Heart Foundation, sustainability causes and otherwise just locals.

RhinestoneCowgirl · 06/11/2021 07:12

The scheme is called You Give We Give @Dinosauraddict, if you search for that on the app or website it should bring up vouchers that you can add to your trolley. Ocado matches your donation too.

Dinosauraddict · 06/11/2021 07:26

Fab thanks @RhinestoneCowgirl I'll look into that!

Scarlettpixie · 06/11/2021 09:23
