Interested to know who people are charitably giving to these days and why.
I’ve always done a regular small DD donation to MSF after having my baby. It was horrific and I felt dreadful for women who weren’t safety in the first world like I was.
I give an odd bit for Palestine every year because I’m “angry” .
I love dogs and have had a couple of rescue dogs until recently. I now give a bit for a dogs charity that neuters dogs in Europe because it’s better than rehoming what are essentially feral dogs.
I do my local schools lottery because they need funds, as do I.

Interested to see MN trends.

Monthly:
Guide dogs
Dogs trust

Yearly:
SANDS (neonatal death)
SUDC (unexplained death in children)

Also donate dry goods and cans to homeless charities at Christmas.

Shelter
Age Cymru

In the past I have made large (for me) one off donations out of money I inherited or won to Macmillan and Cruse, the bereavement charity. Also to MSF, Save the Children and Smile Train, favourite charities of the people who left me money.

I don't generally donate to charity although will sponsor friends/ colleagues for charity activities irrespective of the charity.

I have donated to a local animal rescue in the past (their entire operation is run by volunteers, they often ask for old blankets/ foodstuffs so happy to help out).

The only other that I contribute to each year is Children's Hospital Pyjamas - a wonderful charity that as the name suggests, supplies (new) PJs for children in hospital from babies up to age 18. I dropped off 6 pairs at our local Santander (most branches certainly in and around the Croydon area, possibly nationally, have a box for collection) this week.

Christians against Poverty, a fabulous debt charity. £25 a month. They (free of charge) helped me with debt and I’m now (debt free) ensuring they can continue their amazing work.
DH does guide dogs.

Monthly DD to the local food bank so they can purchase fresh fruit & veg.
Young Minds - kids and young peoples mental health charity.
This thread has made me realise that I hadn't replaced a donation that I cancelled a couple of months ago so have decided to set up a DD for a local women's charity that a friend is trustee of.

MLMshouldbeillegal · 06/11/2021 10:10

4 hours a week in a charity shop for the last 5 or 6 years, it's a rare week when I don't spend at least a tenner in there too.

No other monthly contributions but regularly support people's fundraising.

Classicblunder · 06/11/2021 10:15

Exclusively developing world charities - sos childrens villages, UNICEF, Oxfam, etc. Just don't feel like my donations make as much impact in the UK

RestingStitchFace · 06/11/2021 13:16

I've had to cut back my donations unfortunately as money is tighter than it used to be.

I do a monthly donation to our local air ambulance. Do donation drop offs at the food bank about 3-4 times a year. I do Christmas Toy Appeals - usually the Salvation Army. Those are the main ones but I tend to make fairly frequent one-off donations to causes via JustGiving etc.

Regular ones are Water Aid, NSPCC and SOS Children's Villages. I will definitely keep water aid but will review the others at some stage.

I do various other ad hoc donations as I see fit.

caringcarer · 06/11/2021 14:07

Cats Protection, as I have 4 cats that are warm, loved and well fed. Not all cats have this. CPL re-home cats and don't just put them down. Samaritan's Purse because children get a shoebox of small gifts. My dnephew went to volunteer to fit new kitchens into Romanian orphanages many years ago. As one of the children got a shoebox. One girl who worked there showed him a wooden hairbrush that she had received as a child in a shoebox. That shoebox was only Xmas gift she ever had as an orphan. I know many people don't agree with Samaritan's Purse because they preach Christianity, but they give shoeboxes to children regardless of religious belief. I always make 8 boxes. McMillan cake day. I always donate a cake and buy some too as my Mum had visits from McMillan nurse before she died. I probably give about £200 per year plus clothing to Salvation Army.

raymondanddebra · 06/11/2021 14:25
