Why are the Tories so great?!

Answers such as 'there's no one better' or 'would you prefer Kier or Nigel' aren't answers.

I see no benefits at all to having the current government we have, all I see is a bunch of self serving elitist willy waving boys who care only about the wealthy.

How are they voted in over and over and why has no one else stepped up that has morals and can actually do something good?

Because the media is powerful and convinced people Corbyn was dangerous.

Well and also he was a close friend and supporter of dictator Chavez. Even cab drivers knew this.

fournonblondes · 05/11/2021 01:00
  • They value hard work and don't like benefit scroungers.

That's bloody nasty.*

People hate hearing the truth.

Gingernaut · 05/11/2021 01:10

Labour valued hard work. They rose to power because of the workers.

Labour have lost the vote of the formerly 'ordinary workers' who were made unemployed by the closing of heavy industries under the Tories.

Remember, the voters who Labour are relying on now, don't remember the steelworkers, the miners, the potters or the car industry that many of us do.

It was these redundant workers that voted for Blair, as they adjusted to low pay, zero hours, part time contracts and it was these workers and their families who saw little change in their circumstances as London and the South East became Cool Britannia.

Whole communities have adjusted to low wage, low skill jobs, with whole generations not seeing one full time job, a life without claiming benefits and no hope of one.

Their lives were made shit by the Tories, stayed shit under Labour and now it's even shittier again due to Brexit and Pandemic.

What are Labour offering? Fuck all.

They are no better than the Tories.

Anyone who votes tory should hang their heads in shame.

This is an stupid comment. Stop shaming people. You just alienate and do not convince anyone.

frumpety · 05/11/2021 06:54

Not sure why a mask goes off after a given date!

Here in the UK, they just put new expiry date stickers over the original expiry date on the boxes.

wherearemychickens · 05/11/2021 07:25

I was thinking earlier we should have a new party called 'None of the above' - an independent candidate standing in every constituency, on a manifesto of basic moral principles. If they all got elected you'd have a genuine citizen's assembly. Everything would have to get argued out on its merits.

wherearemychickens · 05/11/2021 07:28

I genuinely don't see how that would be worse than this current government, who are systematically removing checks and balances on executive power and Orbanising our politics. Following the Trump playbook in pushing the boundaries - they pull back when they go too far, like this week with Owen Paterson, but each time they push it a little bit further. They had MPs crying, going through the lobbies this week.

SkiingIsHeaven · 05/11/2021 07:39

@x2boys

Because labour are still not understanding ,that being contemptuous to people who don't agree with them ,ain't going to win them around
This will bells on.
bothjetplanes · 05/11/2021 07:44

@Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet

Labour has spent the last few years sneering at working class people and telling people whose views are not 'pure' enough that they don't want their votes.

And then they wondered why people didn't vote for them.

Quite
Katieandthekids · 05/11/2021 07:44

Jeremy Corbyn supported the IRA and would like to make Britain communist. He also opposed the EU for years until he saw backing it as a way to get into power. He is not the good guy here.

Conservative party are doing a crap job but instead of stepping up, the opposition just bitch and moan about all the things they are doing wrong.

It's so frustrating. There is no one I can vote for.

Katieandthekids · 05/11/2021 07:46

@Yusanaim

There is a prime example above my last post - you can't give money to the nhs without making it somewhere first. That's the prob with the left - they believe in a magic money tree.
Also I work closely with the NHS. It is a mess with so much wasted money and pencil pushing jobs. It needs to be slim lined so that those 'heroes' (of which there are many within the nhs but is not simply the nhs itself) can get the pay they deserve.
Katieandthekids · 05/11/2021 07:47

@Blueskip

Because the Tories are the only party (other than maybe the Communist party?) that won't get rid of women's hard-won rights. Labour, Lib Dems and Greens have reduced "woman" to an undefinable feeling in a man's brain. I won't let my DD grow up in a society where any man (predatory or not) just has to say they're a woman and can access women and girls' changing rooms, toilets, hospital wards, rape crisis centres, hospital wards and refuges. I also believe in science and that people dont magically change sex just because they say so.
This as well omg.
DGRossetti · 05/11/2021 07:49

Our FPTP electoral system has a built in Conservative majority. I can't remember the exact figures, but the easiest MPs to elect are Tories.

We had the opportunity to change it, but clearly preferred PermaTory rule, since that's what we're in for.

bothjetplanes · 05/11/2021 07:57

Labour could make 'You imagined the antisemitism' their next election slogan
Grin This is a brilliantly concise summary of the attitude of Labour to the people they want to vote for them under Corbyn and his (still) supporters.

This thread asked a question. People are answering with why they won't vote Labour. Yet instead of being listened to they are being told they are wrong. This is why Labour, despite the Tories being a bit of a shit show, have remained unelectable.

I genuinely can't understand anyone who doesn't get why Labour aren't winning. It really isn't hard to work out.

@frumpety

Not sure why a mask goes off after a given date!

Here in the UK, they just put new expiry date stickers over the original expiry date on the boxes.

At work we know that multiple manufacturers sell products with expiry dates well within the timespan that they have stability data for. If a consumable is getting close to its expiry date we contact the manufacturer and ask for their stability data and use that in our documentation to justify extending the stated expiry date. This is completely standard. Masks are made out of plastic that will degrade over time and if not stored in the correct temperature range, but I would think that timeline is considerably longer than 2 years. Also, masks will have an expiry date that is based on the integrity of the packaging and the possible bioburden load for masks worn in clean rooms (e.g. those used in the manufacture of medicines). Those criteria are higher than those required in different settings where a few environmental contaminants aren't a consideration. I suspect the UK is using similar pragmatic reasoning when increasing the expiry dates of masks to be used by the general public or in hospitals for PPE in 'non-Covid' wards.
Subbaxeo · 05/11/2021 08:12

I think people voted for them last time because they saw Labour prevarication over Brexit as a betrayal-even though maybe rationally it was a good thing to consider carefully ramifications of the choice-it was seen as anti democratic. Corbyn was much worse-electing him as leader was a real shot in the foot-an angry back bencher who had never achieved anything or led a committee and lacked political skills suitable to be leader? What an error of judgement. The Tories are forgiven because of the pandemic-there is a feeling that any government would struggle so the Tories didn’t do too badly. In fearful times, people prefer more black/white politics and less inclined to be nuanced. The government stokes up culture wars and profit from it. Lots of reasons, really. How it will pan out, I’ve no idea. If Keir Starmer and his team really get a grip on the party nutters and instil some discipline, Labour might have a chance after the government have been shown to be quite corrupt.

Roominmyhouse · 05/11/2021 08:15

I think the current problem we have is that the left leaning parties are too left for a lot of people. There are also too many parties on that side (labour, Lib Dem, green) which splits the vote. Where as to the right it’s pretty much just the Tory party.

I would never vote Tory but there just isn’t a credible opposition currently and despite all the hideous things our government do and get away with I can’t see anything changing next time there is an election.

SkiingIsHeaven · 05/11/2021 08:26

@Stellaris22

"I don't think pro Labour voters are calling Tory voters stupid, far from it. Its more that people are asking you to question the media, especially when its election season."

What utter crap. This is always said by Labour supporters. They are utterly contemptuous and rude about Tory supporters and they call the Tory Party the Nasty Party.

Ridiculous. Just because you don't agree with someone doesn't make them an idiot. Labour supporters don't allow you to have an opinion unless it is the same as theirs.

KeflavikAirport · 05/11/2021 08:28

They are not that wildly popular. It's an optical illusion caused by FPTP.

KeflavikAirport · 05/11/2021 08:39

I can't remember the exact figures, but the easiest MPs to elect are Tories.

It takes 25,000 votes for one SNP MP, nearly 800,000 for a Green MP.

frumpety · 05/11/2021 08:53

@JaninaDuszejko

Perhaps that's why the EU are not sending the masks to poorer countries, because the storage conditions may not be suitable ?

DerTrotzkopf · 05/11/2021 10:15

@SkiingIsHeaven looney lefties, commies, hand wringing do gooders, lefty liberal elites, traitors. Yeah it's the left exclusively throwing the insults Hmm
Maybe people would have more respect for some tory voters if they could bring themselves to admit that the current tory government is clearly inept and corrupt.

This absolutely 👆

DerTrotzkopf · 05/11/2021 10:19

@bothjetplanes the question actually was why are the tories great ? Not why are labour crap ? Maybe tell us what the tories have done that is so great ? Don't think that's insulting to tory supporters ?
