Did not appear to be worried about exams today, said its history and chemistry two of the better ones but she also got sick in y10 mocks so not sure its tge vaccine though not sure as we both got side effects from vaccines but AZ and she had covid and maybe two combined made her ill. She has also been socialising a lot. I wonder if its pscyhological but could be either.

That reminds me we have some sweet potatoes from the veg box which I must use up. I was watching The Pioneer Woman on TV yesterday (whose pioneer status seems a little doubtful to me, as she appears to live in a massive ranch on several million acres, and has a lucrative TV series, book deal and blog, but hey), and she was making hasselback sweet potatoes. I like this as a way of doing normal spuds but she smeared them with a sugar/butter paste, which for me might make them a bit too sweet. Might steal the idea minus the sugar, though.

MissC your recipe is making my mouth water and it’s only 10:50 am here....nowhere near lunchtime. We don’t have Yukon Gold potatoes in the UK, I don’t think, but there will be good alternatives.

Might be something to monitor just in case it’s not vaccine related. She won’t get second chances to sit the real thing, and if they don’t have mock results it can be dicey getting a result reflective of their ability out of the exam board.

Yes I told her you dont get a second chance in real thing and mocks may not be counted if goes to teacher assessment and sit them late. She sat all the y10 mocks a week late at her old school and did brilliantly but records are at old school and was a week after everyone else. She has sat a chemistry gcse at new school and got an 8 and a few others she got 9s in but dont know if they would count. Just really hoping it is the vaccine plus covid and a one off but not sure as its happened twice now. She says she will sit exams late but think that may be dicey if needed to be used though not sure of rules, just know not allowed in real thing. She is sitting a lot of subjects so if she goes back in and does rest will be ok, just depressing on day 2.

Silkiecat is much happier today and I got hungry and had two slices of jam on toast then a tuna and pickled onion sandwich. Silkiecat was very happy to get other half of the tuna.

Hilda, I've made the recipe with russets and it was still glorious. The Yukon Gold potatoes are from Alaska originally, but I think they are being grown elsewhere now.

Everyone covets the leftovers, either to reheat or to make the fried patties with. They're a great breakfast side dish.

Can you get Phildephia style cream cheese in the UK? I vaguely recall seeing someone mention it on MN years ago but wasn't sure.

Silkie, it could just be stress over the exams. When people do have a reaction to the first jab it's usually over in 24 hours.

ChampagneCat saw a horse today. She's seen horses before, with people on their back trotting past the window. This was a big old cart horse type with a big coat on.

She sat on the windowsill and stared incredulously at it for a couple minutes before wandering off and throwing me a look that said "well, I've seen it all now" Grin

DD seems to be a lot better so back tomorrow. I said to her why did you have your vaccine in your mocks and she agreed it was a stupid idea but said it was as her friend was doing it. She could have had it a week before or after but nevermind only one day out and there is another set if mocks before real exams, its just real exams may be cancelled and then they go to mocks. DS in theory had his vaccine today if he cooperated, I hope they send an email so I will know. We can only get 1 each at the moment.

Had planning on phone to discuss moving stairs and adding back bedroom. All had toffee apples. Going to feed the pumpkin to the silkies and the rabbit tonight.

I can hear DH talking to rabbit saying to rabbit would he like to eat some pumpkin and saying its very tasty little rabbit. Rabbit will eat anything going.

Talking about potatoes:
Andretta, Ackersegen, Augusta - these are the potatoe varieties I'd use for mash (in German: Purée)

Champagne, when Dboycat saw my son walk in the door last month after being away since August his eyes opened wide as if he couldn't believe it was him. Cats have a lot of human-like traits.

We've got central heating in this house. I've just found ChampagneCat glued to the skirting board under the bedroom radiator like one of those draught excluders my granny used to have Grin

DDog2 has abandoned her woolly nighttime jumper and we've seen DH's lower arms for the first time since early September Grin

I doubt your DD will be the only one missing a mock exam here or there for covid related reasons, Silkies

Report
Silkieschickens · 03/11/2021 04:35

She wont be only one but the kids are stuffed if they have a problem in mocks and real thing or government changes system for the normal real last minute which has done last two years. So it is very important she sits these.

Glad she’s back Silkie, surely if she’s well enough for a run she’s well enough for school…

Silkieschickens · 03/11/2021 08:12

Yes thanks Sunbird she has gone off to school and also DS said he had first vaccine. No confirmation email through though presumably recorded somewhere.

Had baguette and strawberry jam again for breakfast. I did have a little dairy and for first time in weeks I wasn't sick.

DH gave DS a toffee apple last night and DS was Shock not sure why as we have them each year but must have forgotten, rabbit was very excited, thinking I will eat that and DH had to explain sorry rabbit toffee apple is not for rabbits.

Been doing more Russian duolingo and starting the listed buildings consent application but need drawings from the carpenter.

DS had was awake two hours last night in his cot chirping to himself. 🙈🙄

Exams are stressful enough especially in Covid times glad you’re DD has got to school.

Had a lovely lunch out yesterday but OMG the portion was enormous literally had a whole fried Brie piece with a huge salad and cranberry sauce and chips on side was delicious but dread to think of calories.

The horses are shouting this morning. No idea why but ChampagneCat has returned to Horse Watch with renewed curiosity.

There are a couple brown ones running about and trying to take bites out of each other which is quite alarming. I am not a horsey person so this is all new to me too, though I am managing not to be quite so incredulous Grin

@Lemonsandlemonade DC1 was born very beginning of October and I took them to the village Bonfire event on the 5th Nov. It was freezing but they were well wrapped, fed and in a sling. They slept through the fireworks!

Report
Silkieschickens · 03/11/2021 09:23

We took both mine to fireworks very young, DD loved them from a very young age, DS was terrified until 8 and one of us always had to take him home or back to car. You could try and see how it goes Lemons Most here are cancelled, our village and nearest city are cancelled due to covid. I love the fireworks though not all the random ones going off.
