Ooh and welcome Thewolvesarerunningagain - is your username related to The Box of Delights?

Silkies, it's great to hear you're getting better and are antisocial. Unlike you, I am divorced and over 200 miles away from my children, so for most of the time have been unable to see them. So at least they haven't been able to infect me.

Helena, like you I always mask up in enclosed spaces, round here I'm one of the few that does. I hope it keeps this horrible lurgy at bay. Calling it a lurgy sounds flippant, and that's how I tend to try to deflect my fear of catching it.

Since 23/1/2020 I have lived a mostlly solitary life which can't be good for my mental health, though I've not noticed much difference. On that day I happened to be in a pub having a pint, The Old English Gentleman in Saffron Walden, after seeing the news of a novel coronavirus on the pub telly I said I wouldn't be going back until I was confident enough to be in public without fear of contracting the virus. Not been back yet, so...

I heard Einaudi’s new release this afternoon which was beautiful. And then remembered it was Sunday and so switched to BBC Sounds to catch up with the Archers Omnibus. RIP Bert Fry.

Absolutely Sprouts! I watch the TV adaptation every year at Christmas with my kids and as a child I loved the book so much :-)

This is far too exciting Wolves but I always loved that adaptation from the 1980s and even bought the video once! And I loved th3 theme tune, and I have a very early edition of the book......

I helped a friend write a difficult email today, took the kids trick or treating and had a game of cards with ds before he went to bed, only for him to request I read him a bedtime story tonight, first time he's asked for that in about a year! I was delighted and we snuggled up, his sister joined us and we all loved the cosy familiarity of it. He complimented me on the voices I gave the characters. He's 11. Grin

Welcome, @Thewolvesarerunningagain, and of course you can join us! The more the merrier. Was it a steroid inhaler or an oral steroid that laid you low? Oral steroids are very effective but have loads of unpleasant side effects.

Welcome, @TopCatsTopHat, and thanks for sharing your news. Your son sounds lovely. 11 is such a nice age. I have a son in his last year of uni and I miss those days.

Welcome, @StCharlotte, and thanks for sharing your news. Well done to your DH.

We had our weekly Zoom call with the kids and MIL, all are fine. MIL was struggling to book her covid booster shot appointment so we went online and did it for her. And now I get to have my chocolate oreo cupcake from the posh bakery. Grin

Thank you, 11 is a fab age! I don't want it to end. 😍 I hope your uni age son still does cuddles occasionally. 😊

Oooh! A fellow BoD fan!!! We are rare :-) I can’t wait to get the new audio book adaptation. It has Derek Jacobi as Cole Hawkins and Mark Gatiss as Abner Brown but I’ve been saving it for Christmas to listen to while crafting as a special treat. I know the special effects on the 80s mini series probably seem really dated now but as a kid this absolutely blew my mind!

Thank you for starting a new thread, MissC, and commiserations to all the unwell ones.

I've had a few days of extreme annoyance after my computer suddenly refused to connect up to the internet - luckily there are iPads and a laptop in the house too but I do need a PC for work. So I had to bite the bullet and buy a new one (I knew I was going to have to do this sooner or later but hadn't anticipated the terminal event).

My DB, who's an IT professional and normally deals with much more high-flying stuff than this, was a complete star and drove several hours to come and set it all up for me and transfer the contents of my old machine. I now owe him big-time.

Thank you for the welcome! It’s oral steroids MissConduct. I’ve had nausea and jerky legs since I started these so DH is running out of patience with me accidentally kicking him in the night :-(. I’m hoping they will work some magic in my wheezy lungs though :-)

Checking in. Worked all day so I’m totally confused about what day it is.

Crazy rain last night so of course our basement flooded. We have the cleanup down to a fine art now. Most stuff is in plastic boxes or off the floor. We got rid of the water, chucked one rug, and we have fans and dehumidifiers running.

Beautiful day today. It was lovely seeing all the trick or treaters out and about this evening. Feels like things finally getting back to normal.

I just woke up from a dream that someone came into my bedroom in the dark (from a door where there isn’t one), laid on my bed and threw his arm across me. My arms were kind of trapped and I couldn’t get my voice to work, so all I could do was cry and whisper get off, and sort of push him in the face with my fists. Then as I was waking up I was convinced the bedside table was a cleaning trolley next to my bed! Had to put some light on to reorient myself and calm down again. Screwball brain, going to have to try listening to a bedtime story to get back to sleep now!

@MissConductUS I do wonder is it the nerves on the one side as they struggled to stitch the one side up. From what DH said. I don’t remember I think my blood pressure dropped and the procedure is a bit hazy.

It’s incredibly windy here. No sign of any trick or treaters here.

I do love most genres of music my dad fostered in me a love of music. Most opera is my exception to this and also jazz.

@sproutsandparsnips yes I am in Powys, on my view a very underrated county. It’s beautiful where I live. Good luck on your new job in MIU. I take it you’re in Wales too?

@Sunbird24 sounds frightening hope you got to sleep ok. I had a dream that I was trapped in a haunted house. It was horrible.

@HildaTablet lovey DB you have 😀

DD has the first day of her year 11 mocks today. She left very early at 6.30am as one of her friends is very anxious and she has gone to look after them first.

DH is having a shower. DS appears to be asleep still, he is wearing his bear onesie.

Having developed a small obsession with audiobooks I am delighted to find the local library have put a load into an online collection.

The library has also subscribed to a service which allows free access to global magazines and newspapers ( newsagent bestsellers and more) so I can access UK magazines and newspapers for free until June… I never buy magazines but am enjoying a snuffle through plus the pay walled uk press ( had forgotten how much I missed the independent). I read the Uk news everyday ( nz press is not that fabulous).

Libraries rock, our one even has a shelf where I can leave my excess vegetables

Being greedy with two posts,

Birds have attempted to nest in our mailbox ( mistook it for a nas ting box), have cleared out twigs, leaves and twiney offerings, felt very guilty, some poor bird will be furious, but we need access to our post!

The new Tori Amos album is rather good, after having two not so good offerings in the past decade. Her interviews have been wonderful and I so miss the tours being at the end of the world. Would be great if Tori and Lily Allen could collaborate …

Had a lovely time at my sister’s yesterday. She had a Halloween dressing up box so my boys dressed up and we went trick or treating. We (ok, they) did apple bobbing. Gentle fun was had by all.

@Silkieschickens hope your daughters first mocks go ok. My DN has hers too very soon.

@Fiercestcalm I think birds nests are so amazing. Totally understand you actually need your post!!

@PeterPomegranate sounds lovely.

Got nurse ringing back. You have to get nurse to ring you to triage you then doctor. I can’t stand the nurse. She rubbled me round the wrong way when she examined DS.

Been thinking about Christmas - DH has suggested we have beef instead of turkey. That would first year ever not having turkey. I love beef but stuffing is my favourite thing as it’s the only time I make apricot and chestnut stuffing.

I did think maybe duck would be nice but depends on if in laws are with us.

Thanks lemons hope your DNs go well. Had a bit of a scare when her school record said not at school this morning but turned out she is and everyone is marked incorrectly.

Silkiecat has been cross with DH since he spent 3 hours getting DD back and collecting shopping and going for a coffee yesterday, she has been telling him off ever since for every time he goes out of her sight. But I just got hungry and there isn't much in and supermarket only has sliced bread so I had a tuna sandwich and Silkiecat was most impressed to be getting the rest of tuna and all the tuna water. She made several very long, very happy sounds so hopefully she will be happy again.
