DH went upstairs for a nap. As soon as he got upstairs Silkiecat started crying for him then a few minutes later both the chickens started going bork, bork, bork really loudly joining the cat. Think DH is happy the rabbit cannot make sound.

WickedWitchOfTheTrent · 03/11/2021 09:39

My face to face team meeting has been cancelled and is now over teams, which means I didn't have to drive for 1.5 hrs (each way) today, don't have to wash my hair, can wear jeans and a hoodie and don't have to go out for a meal with my work colleagues after work Grin

afaloren · 03/11/2021 09:52

Hi all.

I made some leek and potato soup without a recipe and it came out perfectly. I am pleased.

MissConductUS · 03/11/2021 10:53

Welcome, @WickedWitchOfTheTrent and @afaloren, and thanks for sharing your WFH and culinary triumph news!

Rabbit has been enjoying some pumpkin, when DS gets home the silkies can have some too.

DH is trying to nap again but this is making Silkiecat cross, she never agreed to this and generally preferred staff are not allowed to sleep or leave Silkiecat's side other than to get food for Silkiecat.

Rabbit is beautiful Silkie. All of the rabbits here are gray. I don't think I've ever seen a black one before.

Yesterday was Dboycat's 11th birthday. He didn't seem fussed about it.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/11/2021 18:13

Rabbit is lovely!

Silkieschickens · 03/11/2021 18:18

Happy birthday to Dboy cat MissC

Our rabbit is a dark blue/ grey colour, the vet said he was the bluest rabbit he had ever since but he's just one from a PetsatHome advert so doubt he is unique. He is a mini lop.

DD didn't sit her mock today, said she had a panic attack about something else but did this in year 10 mocks as well. Hope she won't do it in real thing or she will have to repeat the year.

Silkieschickens · 03/11/2021 18:19

Thanks Prok Rabbit is the easiest creature in the world to make happy, you just need food.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/11/2021 18:26

Rabbit concentrates on the essentials! Grin
DS wrote Math today - he said it went all right, biology was OK, too. If he gets this 5PK finished in a gradable manner (4 = sufficient would be OK) we could all breathe.

A collegue is giving his "Ausstand" tomorrow - he'll become an OAP. First time in 2 years we can eat and drink together.

fedup65356 · 03/11/2021 18:30

Had stupid argument with DH first thing before work and at lunchtime sat in my car and cried. All ok now though.

Got stuck in traffic on way home.

Lemonsandlemonade · 03/11/2021 18:31

Well I think I will take DS to fireworks so long as it doesn’t rain.

Lovely rabbit.

Took MIL to garden centre today. DS loves spending time with her. As do I TBF.

Lemonsandlemonade · 03/11/2021 18:33

Just heard in Wales we could go up in alert level 1 if cases of Covid continue to rise.

Silkieschickens · 03/11/2021 18:40

Glad your DS got things done Prok

Sorry to hear you had a row with your DH Fedup but glad it is resolved.

That is interesting about Wales Lemons as we normally follow abut 2 weeks behind here. All the bonfires have been cancelled here and school things are moving online so won't be surprised if we go into restrictions again, just hope schools stay open.

MissConductUS · 03/11/2021 18:41

Welcome, @fedup65356, and I'm sorry to hear about your argument and upset, but glad that it's okay now. Thanks for sharing.

Prok, I wish I was having my Ausstand and becoming an OAP. Maybe when DD finishes uni.

Lemons, why are you having fireworks tonight?

I'm mainly just checking in, we went away for half term and had a beautiful week away in Scotland. I didn't want to come back and there may have been a few quiet tears shed on the ferry back to the mainland.

Apparently I'm practically employed again after being offered a PT job, perfect hours, slightly further away than I wanted but I can deal with that. I just need to submit my ID and whatnot then away we go!

It's lovely to read all your updates though 😁

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/11/2021 18:57

miss I've got 8 years to go.

MissConductUS · 03/11/2021 19:14

Prok, I've just done a google on the German pension system. At what age do you qualify for benefits from the GRV? Can you delay benefits and get a larger monthly payment?

It's very similar to our Social Security Retirement Benefits plan. It's so similar that I suspect when ours was created in the 1930's it was modeled on the German system.

Is it common for Germans to save privately for retirement and does the government offer tax incentives for them to do so?

I've spent a lot of time thinking about this. Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/11/2021 19:34

Miss that is a vast and complicated field.
We are strongly encouraged to suppplement our state pension (Rente) with additional private pension schemes often offered via the employer and "assissted" by the state (Zusatzrente), as the current working population provides for the ccurrent OAPs The system was set up when people died much earlier.
I got a letter last week informing me of the date I can (but do not have to) stop working , the amount of pension to expect and what to expect if I became totally unable to work tomorrow.
DH on the other hand (working for himself) has very few points earned via the state system. He had to provide for his old age privately.

Lemonsandlemonade · 03/11/2021 20:40

@MissConductUS am going to take DS to Guy Fawkes Night. Where we celebrate a unsuccessful plot of 1605 to blow up the Houses of Parliament and kill King James the 1st. There is usually a bonfire and also fireworks. I only ever go to displays that are organised not ones that are in people’s gardens for example.

Coz of Covid though last year there was no display.

@Silkieschickens in lots of ways I was happy with restrictions in Wales how they were at start of summer.

MissConductUS · 03/11/2021 23:14

Lemons, yes, the Gunpowder Plot. Netflix had a series on the great castles of Britain that was really a good overview of British history. I don't recall how the Gunpowder Plot came up, but it did. Castles figured prominently in the religious conflicts of the time.

My DH lived in London for a year and loved it. I'm hoping we'll go there together on holiday someday. Probably after DD finishes uni, since having two going at the same time has been very expensive.

Another quietish day for me. Have a GP appointment tomorrow to talk about my wheezing but managed to go for a walk today. Was doing fine until I got to a bit of an incline and then it may as well have been Everest as it felt like the air I was breathing was so thin. Had to rush out this evening with DS (who insisted on bringing his toy light saber in case needed) to rescue DH who had run out of fuel literally a few yards from the garage forecourt. Pushing the van onto the forecourt left me sat wheezing on a wall while DH went on to take DD to Guides. This is all pretty embarrassing and I really hope it passes soon! Looking forward to the weekend and hoping to find a nice bonfire that’s not too busy!

mathanxiety · 04/11/2021 02:27

I made beef chili tonight, served with egg noodles. I added lentils but nobody knows that.

It's finally cold enough to break out the winter coats. I searched in vain in DD3's closet for mine. I could have sworn it was there, but DD reminded me I had put it in the closet off the sitting room last April, and she was right.

They are talking about galactic archaeology on some space programme on TV. DS swung by for chili and is nodding off.

Rabbit has a look of quiet watchfulness going on there, Silkies.

Sorry you had an unhappy start to the day, fedup65356.

WickedWitchOfTheTrent isn't it great when something turns out far better than you thought it would?

HelenaJustina · 04/11/2021 08:35

I’ve already called two different heating oil suppliers for quotes and placed an order. Not showered or dressed but feeling pleasingly productive

EllieSattler · 04/11/2021 09:21

I don't have any rabbits but I have two lovely guinea pigs Smile I also have awful period pains, which are not lovely Sad
