Thanks very much Lady and lemons very kind of you both. I have DH so I am OK, its just dealing with cancer and the lack of any treatment which I am finding hard and can't find anyone at the NHS hospital who will help me. Just say everyone's treatment is delayed. And everything is alone there.

Trying to distract myself by watching Netflix about New Zealand. DH has gone to pick up 2 orders from Dunelm including a light up snowman for DS and bedding for me if I ever get surgery, some robin Christmas plates and a few clothes I ordered and getting things for a Sunday roast. He made me a milky coffee before he left and the birds are singing outside.

Tomorrow I have paid to talk to a private doctor for adrenals and then I have my will to do. Plus trying to talk to someone in the NHS hospital who will help me, not hopeful with that one.

Silkie, I am so sorry you are going through this. You've been let down from the beginning of this. You should have been having annual mammograms for years at your age. And now you can't get treatment from the NHS. It's just bloody awful. I'm so glad you've arranged to see a private doctor about your adrenals. Perhaps he or she can advise you on getting a private oncology consultation.

I went to the supermarket after church to start shopping for Christmas dinner. Meat has gotten more expensive here, but I lucked out and found a six pound, boneless, uncured, lightly smoked ham from a really good brand (Boars Head). It was just a bit more than I paid last year.

I had also heard on the news that there is a shortage of cream cheese, so I bought a package and everything else I need to make the holiday mashed potatoes.

I am wrapping presents this afternoon.

Just feeding DS bedtime bottle.

Having jackets for tea with prawns and salad. I say salad I mean cucumber and tomatoes.

Sometimes I feel so lucky being a mum.

I’ve just managed to book my booster jab. The system has opened for 18-39yr olds and after queuing/getting chucked out half way through/queuing again… repeat many times… I’ve finally booked for the 22nd. DH does some occasional work for a local pharmacy so he’ll see if he can get me done any sooner but I’m relieved it’s booked.

Helena Good that you remind me - I have to send DS to a vaccination station (DD organizes herself). And I have to find out what the rules are for me?

I have baked cinnamon cookies and raisin cookies, and DD is baking snowflakes.
And - oh joy - I have discovered 2 ironed shirts in my warderobe, so no ironing today.

Lemons, your tea sounds delicious. I'm happy to be a mum too, especially now that they are older. Smile

Well done, Helena, on booking your booster. Appointments here were pretty easy to get until the omicron showed up and there was a big surge in demand. I'm so glad I got the kids done when they were home for Thanksgiving. Have your DH ask the local pharmacy if they keep a waiting or standby list for unused vaccine doses at the end of the day. They sometimes have to bin them if people don't show up for their appointments. If you have to wait ten days, that's not terrible.

Prok, I still have ironing to do. I am making jam thumbprint cookies, a holiday tradition.

Butter and Jam Thumbprints

It was my lovely MIL's birthday this week and we sent her a posh fruit basket. I suggested that the kids call her on the day, which they did. We'll see her soon on our weekly family Zoom call.

BoJo has just announced that they want all over 18s boosted by the end of Dec (rather than end of Jan) - glad I got on the site tonight!

Miss That recipe is in my DGM's "new" cook book (from 1954) it calls them 'Engelsaugen' (angel's eyes).
DH has not done his baking but he is extemely busy and will perhaps not find the time. His Vanillekipferl and Hildabrötchen are extremely good and sought after by my work mates.

Thanks very much MissC I had a nap as did not sleep again last night then woke up to an email from someone very famous here that the Australian professor had contacted to help me get treatment here. He has given me details of someone else very senior, I am not sure if it will help but its very kind of him to try and I had 2 friends who were hospital consultants and if they knew someone they could get seen very fast but they dont work in onocology.

Silkie Take all the help you can get to beat the system. (Do not start to feel bad about 'jumping ques' etc. I know good people will do, but now is not the time.)

Our IT department has decided to stop having us working with our own PCs because of securitiy risks (surprise, surprise) - guess who is the very last on the list for getting a laptop?

I am only asking for treatment to start within 2 months which is what the NHS is supposed to provide for cancer, anyone who objects to that is not a good person imo. But I don't know anyone objecting to it just some people going on about how amazing the NHS is, well tell that to my children if I die. I find this really distressing so please can you stop saying it.

I took DD to the airport at the crack of silly o'clock this morning. We beat a freight train approaching the ground level railroad crossing by a few minutes. It's always a bit hit or miss at that particular level crossing. You could be held up for ages if two trains go by in different directions. Anyway, on my way home I wasn't as lucky. DD's flight was delayed by two hours in the end but she got to DC, where DD1's Dcats greeted her as warmly you can expect with cats. Her checked suitcase also made it to DC.

They have set up pop-up walk in booster shot locations, so I'm going to try to get my shot on Wednesday morning, hopefully with the worst of the reaction over by the time I have to get to work on Thursday. If I can't get it on Wednesday, I'll have to try my luck on the Monday after Christmas or maybe on Boxing Day.

Thanks for understanding Prok

DH put a real Christmas tree up with different coloured lights last night so I can see it from my room.

The males in my family could not care less about any kind of celebration, decoration and stuff.
So I do it for myself, helped a bit by DD.
They think it is unneccessary. But at least DH likes the cookies. DS doesn't -too unpredictable for him.

Report
Silkieschickens · 13/12/2021 06:19

DS isn't that keen on the presents, other than cake, he has to be given presents one a day or just money and if people bring he a present he won't open them. He loves the Christmas tree lights though and any lights and just gazes at them.

Argh, private doctor is saying they would not be able to rule out cancer based on past adrenal scan, he said its likely adenoma but they should have run hormone tests and CT adrenals. Think CT adrenals was what they ran on Friday.

Had a talk re making a will this morning, private doctor, and also chased ct and found its back. Chief executives chief of staff replied to my complaint said he was just passing it to pals, very sorry etc but then had call saying my results a week early, adrenal is benign and saying surgery will be early January. And the unhelpful nurse had to call and tell me. Tbf they are very short staffed working very long days.

Report
MissConductUS · 13/12/2021 14:00

That's great news about the adenoma, Silkie. If they can actually do the surgery in 3-4 weeks that's also good news.

Everyone should have a will. Dying without one leaves an unholy mess for everyone to deal with. We did ours after 9/11, as did a lot of people.

In case anyone is concerned, I'm aware that the end of the thread is approaching and am monitoring the post count.

So pleased to read your latest post, Silkie. If things are finally starting to get going with proper treatment , that can only be good news. But I'm still very unimpressed, to put it mildly, with the work you're having to do to get noticed. It should not be like this.

Thanks MissC We have talked of getting wills here. DH can't do his here as he has property in France and there is a default will here that something like first £270k goes to spouse then rest split between kids and property held as joint tenants passes to other one. But if you hold joint accounts they get frozen, ours are separate but someone I work with had no access to money when there DH died at 42 as all joint. Also if you have debts those pass on, we have no mortgages so that's fine but main thing is for if we both die before kids are 18 who would get custody. Its unlikely as DD is 16 and DS is nearly 15 and also there isn't anyone that obvious as best people are in France but kids need to be here for exams but will go with one of my friends where used to live as she is amazing with DS.
