I've had one of those days where...

I called someone at the time she asked me to call her to help her with some work. Not only was she not ready for my call but she didn't recognise my name, and she wasn't ready for my call because she wasn't at work.

I provided someone with some metrics for a client. She said one of the metrics was missing. I said it was there, and reminded her which Excel spreadsheet tab to look on. She insisted it wasn't there so I screenshot it and sent that. She still insists it's not there. I am at a loss as to what to suggest so I'm just repeatedly resending her the screenshot. We have a long history of this sort of thing happening. She always eventually finds it, after I've helped her and rechecked it's really there many times.

I ordered a gift card for someone, to be delivered to me by email. It's taken the money from my credit card but not delivered the email.

I'm thinking maybe I should cut my losses and just start drinking now.

MissConductUS · 06/12/2021 20:47

That does sound grim, ZZ. You have my blessing to break out the wine.

Some people don't use tabs on spreadsheets and don't understand the concept. You may need to draw an arrow on the screenshot that points to the tab she needs to click on.

We've just paid DS's final tuition bill for uni, thank goodness. One down, one to go.

@MissConductUS if I’m honest very not coz of the staff but the person who has replaced me I’m at best disappointed in some of the things I have seen today I will have to flag with my employers tomorrow at a meeting. Some things are down right dangerous. We had an advisor in last week who has told me if I wasn’t conning back she would be flagging several areas of concern. How I get things back on track is overwhelming to be honest.

Lemonsandlemonade · 06/12/2021 21:19

@MissConductUS I have to say the us tuition fee for university is quite scary. In uk you pay fees back as soon as you earn over a set amount.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 06/12/2021 21:21

Oh yes, I once had the pleasure to explain to somebody several paygrades above me, that - yes all the info is in fact in the sheet and you can see it if you use the filters. Yes, those little black triangles at the head of colums ...

DD's medication is working - apart from appearing much calmer, less stressed and more active (phonecalls, appointments etc.), she reports that her ability to concentrate on her reading has improved and the presentation she has to prepare is ready one day before deadline!!!!!!

MissConductUS · 06/12/2021 21:32

Lemons, there are higher education loans here that can be paid back as a percentage of income after graduation. But they still charge interest. We have been saving for uni expenses since the kids were toddlers and my lovely MIL has helped out very generously, so both kids should be able to finish uni debt free.

As to your situation at work, I'm sure it's made them realize how valuable you are!

Are you going to ask Santa for a SodaStream machine for Christmas?

I have been trying to get information from one hospital to another, apparently when I phoned they cannot talk directly to get my CT scan from 2018 and said I need to call and get it sent to me. So I called and thankfully they retrieved it and will send me a disc and my GP an e-mail report. So now I have to get the disc via post and get it to hospital and get the GP to answer (normally 2 days) and then retrieve an e-mail then forward it to hospital then check they have everything. Its really urgent as well. Though the nurse was at least less grim about the CT and said its only the adrenals they are concerned about mets on and its looking more like a second primary or a benign thing which causes tumours.

Other than that trying to sleep, watch trash TV and lots of e-mails. Oh and 10 emails from DD about a school issue before 11am but got that sorted.

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/12/2021 04:07

@Silkieschickens that makes me so cross that you have to chase it. It shouldn’t be down to you. Hope you get something sorted soon to get an answer.

Glad you managed to sort your DDs problem out.

@MissConductUS am not sure re soda stream I asked for an air fryer from Santa which I think has arrived. 😂

mathanxiety · 07/12/2021 05:04

That all sounds incredibly antiquated and a lot of unnecessary steps, Silkies.

Silkieschickens · 07/12/2021 05:28

I don't mind doing it but things tend to get lost. When I go to French doctors with DH even about 10 years ago everything was on 1 system which any doctor could see and electronic and I was Shock this is like living in a different era. Grin No idea why it has to go via me and GP. When they book you in for a CT scan you also have to phone to the hospital to say the other hospital department has booked you in and that is at the same hospital but they said the departments don't tell each other. Confused

Now trying to get dental appointments, nearest NHS is about an hour away and a 4 year wait so I guess will be going private.

Silkieschickens · 07/12/2021 05:36

Just got dentists appointment £70 for 10 mins but I get '2 free xrays'

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/12/2021 06:30

@Silkieschickens my fil had 2 teeth removed privately and two x rays £650 I was 😬

Silkieschickens · 07/12/2021 06:51

Yes the prices are scary though even more scary is people who can't afford private like this poor lady who pulled out 11 of her own teeth. Sad

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/12/2021 13:23

@Silkieschickens it’s so frightening honestly.

DS shattered after playgroup. Popped to work then haircut. A busy day!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/12/2021 17:01

Heating and hot water ar off. The Vaillant does not ignite (F29). If we cannot manage to get it to work we have to phone maintenance.
I hate washing my hair with 10 °C cold water - the shower I can handle.

@Silkie; I know the feeling. My husband has been in hospital for 2 1/2 weeks, having a bladder tumour removed, and I've had 2 letters and 3 voicemails from the appointments office asking us to book an appointment date for surgery! Every time I've spoken to them and pointed out that he's already in hospital!
Champagneforeveryone · 07/12/2021 18:22

I've just received a ping to say I've been a close contact of a confirmed Covid case. I'm double jabbed so don't have to isolate but have to have another PCR tomorrow.

DM is arriving for the weekend on Friday so that could be a spanner in the works Hmm

HelenaJustina · 07/12/2021 20:04

Cases are falling dramatically in school, finally and thank goodness. I’ve made some lovely graphs, channelling my inner Chris Whitty.

7.5 school days until the end of term and it can’t come soon enough. This has been the maddest calendar year in school. Surely to God we’re going to catch a break with this Covid malarkey soon.

MissConductUS · 07/12/2021 20:25

Any luck on the heat yet, Prok? I heard a story on the news recently about rent control in Berlin and how one company owns about half of the apartments but doesn't do timely repairs on them. I hope that isn't the case for you.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/12/2021 20:52

Miss No, we rent from a private landlord and the Vaillant is just old but properly maintained. After DH told me, I went to the file named 'manuals', found out what F29 actually means and what to do about it, told him to do it and it started again.
As for big rental property owners (slightly uncalm rant alert):
The roof over your head is a basic human right and the 'big' oweners of living spaces who are interested in shareholder value only are seen as locusts - destroyers of socially grown living spaces and creators of 'naice homogeneous areas for the well to do' and there is nothing worse you can do to a grown city then destroying the grown social mixture. (I voted for the creation of laws to facilitate expropriatation.)
It is of course different in countries where living space is traditionally seen as an investment. (end of rant and my English is not good enough anyway) Grin

HildaTablet · 07/12/2021 23:39

That was an excellent rant, Prok, and I particularly applaud your use of 'naice' Grin

Silkieschickens · 08/12/2021 00:03

Hugs Sue That sounds really hard, hope you have him home soon. Does he have a diagnosis yet? I continued chase the hospitals as they said they aren't getting my old ct scan now and I need to get it which I have managed to get but can only send here. So then we need to drive it to hospital as they said not to risk post. Then I have not been given ct date despite them supposed to allocate me one on Friday as super urgent so phoned and they said can see you 23rd December. I said its to find out at stage 4 can you not do earlier, then they said 16th December, I said how about this week and they are doing Friday lunchtime which is better but clashed with dentist so that has been pushed back a week but receptionist there was so kind saying she had breast cancer 5 years ago. Then had to phone breast unit as apparently they don't know and they said oh I can see doctor to get results 2 weeks after that. I said its urgent and she said maybe I would like mental health referral. I said I just want to see doctor and treatment starting and got that moved forward a week. At least the private hospital are sending it first class recorded for old CT so I should get that tomorrow but will be scary to open as size/growth and side will indicate if its cancer or likely benign.

Glad you got your boiler sorted Prok

I slept all day but that was good as haven't slept much since Friday so still a night behind. The Australian professor is being super kind and said no deadlines which is good as only managed an hour so far.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/12/2021 04:11

@HelenaJustina we don’t break up until 22nd!

Glad you managed some sleep @Silkieschickens

Can’t sleep between the storm and my head working overtime

mathanxiety · 08/12/2021 04:39

The French system is what I am used to in the US too, Silkies.

Fingers crossed your old CT scan will arrive and that you'll soon have answers.

Prok that was an excellent rant, and I agree.

We had a very still and extremely cold day today. It never got above freezing. My 'new' car started really well despite its night in the cold. My neighbour has the spot to my left and pulled her car in so close to mine last night some time that I couldn't even squeeze in between our two cars, let alone open my door to get in, so I had to climb in via the passenger door. Later, DS very gallantly took out the bin. When I get home after such a freezing day and take off my coat, I like to stay indoors.

There's supposed to be a warmup to the 60s (about 15.5C) at the end of next week, so that may be a good chance to hit the Christkindlmarkt, even though the entire metropolitan area will probably have the same idea.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/12/2021 05:05

Good morning, it is before six and I was woken up by wind outside and a headache. I will see if coffee helps.
Silkie It is shit that you have to run errands for them - I thought the NHS had this database for their clients. I must have misunderstood other threads.
When I came out of hospital I was handed an envelope with a copy of all my x-rays etc (before internet was a thing) I still have it.
