@Lemonsandlemonade the 17th does feel very early but to be honest we’re all very ready for it. I feel like I haven’t properly relaxed since January when Boris said ‘schools are open, whoops, no they’re not’!

Prok that was a marvellous rant, and I agree wholeheartedly. It should not be the case that my heart sinks a little when I see pupils come from a certain address. Fully integrated communities would be of benefit to all.

Silkieschickens · 08/12/2021 07:32

We break up on 17th here, was a bit Shock as last year was a week later. DS prefers it later as he hates school on his birthday, should be banned.

DD is being super slow getting ready for school, faster sloths have bern recorded

sueelleker · 08/12/2021 08:51

Silkieschickens Yes, thank you. He went for an outpatient biopsy on Nov.20th, and they whipped him straight in and operated on the 23rd. They removed 90% of the tumour, and he has to go back in early January for another op. Depending on how much they can remove, he may need follow-up radiotherapy. Wishing you the best for your treatment.

Silkieschickens · 08/12/2021 09:39

Thanks Sue Hope your DHs treatment is successful and you have a fully repaired DH back with you soon.

Prok I am no expert on this but I think the NHS have lots of different databases, the breast clinic staff seem to have access to different ones each, whereas the French system is more one national database. I have a feeling the government tried to do that and spent a lot of money failing. The gps is a mix of electronic, paper, fax and email. The gp gets my hospital results by post or not at all. I get them online but my gp cant view them. One time I got 3 letters saying appointment made, appointment cancelled, appointment made all arrived same day, all for same date and time. Confused

Silkieschickens · 08/12/2021 11:13

Got hold of 2018 ct report and looks like good news had a left adrenal mass of 2,5cms then so just grown 0.8cms to 3.3cms in 3.5 years which should hopefully mean its benign, gp says will still need treatment and need to get confirmed by hospital and next ct benign but looks more hopeful so just stage 3 breast cancer to deal with. So probably Xmas surgery for me or over DSs birthday. Sad but rather get it done.

HildaTablet · 08/12/2021 12:07

That does sound hopeful, Silkie - keeping everything crossed for you here. All the very best to sueelleker and your DH too, it's a huge mental drain on top of everything else.

The lack of joined-up-ness of systems is really shocking and worrying. If those of us who have access to the internet and are relatively articulate, persistent and resourceful find it daunting, I dread to think what it means for anyone without those things to draw on.

MissConductUS · 08/12/2021 14:48

That's great news re the adrenal growth, Silkie. I'm also surprised that the NHS systems aren't better integrated. Images from scans can be problematic because of the file sizes. It's not unusual here for them to be burned onto DVD disks for storage. One reason I switched to a really large medical practice for my own medical care is the fact that referrals and record sharing within the group is really easy and supports better care.

Sue, best wishes to you DH for a speedy recovery. I don't know why exactly, but it seems like serious illnesses often reveal themselves in the fall and winter.

@Silkieschickens great hopeful news re adrenal growth.

@sueelleker wishing your DH a quick recovery.

@MissConductUS don’t get me started on NHS and their lack of integrated systems. Where I am in Wales I have had the exact same blood tests done in the English hospital because my tests were done in Wales and English hospitals won’t accept results etc from Wales but would from England. Makes me cross.

On a lighter note DS ate strawberries and raspberries for first time today. He loved them.

Boy it’s terribly windy and cold out there.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 08/12/2021 16:26

We are supposed to get snow tomorrow - it is just about cold enough but windy. I am actually quite glad of the ffp2 I have to wear - keeps my face warm - but my feet are cold.

Silkie I keep my fingers crossed for you kidney area!
Sue Best wishes for your DH.

Nydj · 08/12/2021 17:20

@Silkieschickens, that sounds more positive so I will hold off on the gentle hugs today.

I have come back from a couple of days away with my sisters in the cotswolds. It was a lovely break with rubbish wet weather which meant we didn’t have to force ourselves to goon bracing walks. Instead, we stayed in the lovely house and chatted and just enjoyed being together.

We have our Christmas tree up but are missing some lights - can’t recall with any certainly if we got rid of them last year after Xmas or have just lost them. I want to buy more cluster lights but I also want to buy a balsam hills tree at some stage so should save money for that rather than on decorating current tree. I will ponder and fail to make any decisions on the matter for another year.

DoctorTwo · 08/12/2021 18:22

I have a blood test tomorrow, to be sent to DD2's consultant to see if her illness is genetically linked to me, which we both think it might be. Then, in the afternoon there is somebody coming to look at my boiler (hallelujah) which means I will have hot water. Keeping clean has not been easy with just cold water in a freezing bathroom. Looking forward to a hot bath as there is no shower here.

Good luck for Friday silkies, your update sounds hopeful at least, and to your DH sue, it sounds like you've both been dealt a shitty hand. The main reason integrated IT systems won't work in the UK is, IMO, consecutive governments have tried to do them not only on the cheap, but run by private companies, this doesn't work well with the ethos of the NHS, which is providing free care at the point of use, much of this has now been quietly moved to the private sector.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 09/12/2021 00:40

I worked for a US insurance company formed from various companies that merged, then had to merge their systems.

We had medical records for tens of millions of customers. A lot were on mainframe systems from the 70s.

We actually were able to make them (mostly) accessible from one front end, but it was unbelievably expensive, and there were so many workarounds.

For example because the mainframe only refreshed data once a day, and could only cope with a certain number of updates per day, we had systems that helped case managers queue up change requests and send out reminders each day for next steps.

It provided a lot of job security of the wrong sort.

Champagneforeveryone · 09/12/2021 08:25

Our gas has just been delivered, DH and DDog2 have breathed a very large sigh of relief Grin

Lemonsandlemonade · 09/12/2021 09:11

Good luck today Silkie

Silkieschickens · 09/12/2021 09:22

Thanks Lemons my test is on Friday Xmas Smile

DD is home today, was not well yesterday evening and also said she realised children need their Mummy every single day.

DS has gone to school. DH is wfh. Silkiecat is very quiet. I may go to sleep as awake all night, ordered a few things and watching trash TV but now very tired.

Lemonsandlemonade · 09/12/2021 09:43

Omg silkie I thought it was Friday! I’m working tomorrow so dunno what I was thinking 🙄

Try and rest when you can.

Nydj · 09/12/2021 10:36

@Silkieschickens, hugs to your DD. I hope she is ok and you both have a lovely day today.
I was about to go for a walk when DH brought me a fresh mug of tea. Tea has been drunk and I have run out of excuses so time for my walk now.

sueelleker · 09/12/2021 10:53

Just had a phone call from my husband; he's being discharged today and should be on his way home. He'll have to go back for another CT scan in a couple of days, but it'll be lovely to have him home.

HelenaJustina · 09/12/2021 11:48

That’s great news Sue

sueelleker · 09/12/2021 14:45

He's home! A bit tired, but very happy. He has to go back on 5/1/22

Nydj · 09/12/2021 16:50

That’s great @sueelleker!

MissConductUS · 09/12/2021 18:01

That's fabulous news, Sue.

I'm leaving shortly to drive to the location for my offsite meeting tomorrow. It's about a two-hour trip. Fortunately, the weather looks good. I'll have a bit of time in the hotel, then a group of us are going out to dinner. I'll be in the meeting all day tomorrow, then driving back Saturday morning.

I'm sure I'll be checking the thread from time to time, but I'm sure you all can manage without me. Grin

Silkies good news about your adrenal gland ( not checked in for a couple of days).
I have just bought a box of chocolate " sprouts to send to our friend in Spain. I hope she gets the joke - do they have sprouts in Spain?

Lemonsandlemonade · 09/12/2021 20:41

Great news Sue.

Have a good time @MissConductUS.

Had lunch out today. Have work tomorrow. 😬. Have wrapped 2/3 of Christmas pressies.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 09/12/2021 21:09

Sue Good news for you!

If you go to a christmas market and - being a wise adult person - do not eat before to avoid the double calories, then it is probably a good idea not to start with a gin tasting session.

And I went into a real shoe shop, with properly trained staff and finally got some warm footwear.
