Can you recommend me a really good uplifting film?

Any age, preferably Romance or comedy or thriller but not depressing. Even it's a classic, because I'm sure there's gaps where I haven't seen certain things. Any suggestions gratefully received Flowers

Happy New Year - it's a Bollywood comedy heist movie on Netflix.

Don't be put off if you've never seen a subtitled movie! It's as uplifting and heartwarming as you could wish for - and it's ridiculous and funny and has some fantastic dancing and singing.

Their Finest Hour
Gemma Arterton in writes women's lines in script. She is supposed to make them rousing but unintrusive so as not to distract From the nearly has-been star (Bill Nighy in fabulous form).
It gets funnier and funnier as subplots develop and the scripts keep changing as DDay dawns. Lovely film.

I've thought of another couple

Summerland - really lovely film
What We Do in the Shadows - I wasn't expecting to like it but it's really funny

Jerrysgonnabeacableboy · 31/10/2021 04:26

Intouchables - a French film but easy to follow with subtitles. Totally uplifting and so funny too , one of my all time favourite films . A true story too.

Another vote for this one. Loved it.
@sashh did you mean A Matter of Life and Death?

David Niven plays a RAF pilot and it switches between colour and black&white. It’s a lovely film.
That's exactly the film I was thinking of, I wonder if it is a Mandela thing?

I wondered if it was a different title but apparently in the US it was names Stairway to Heaven

Which reminds me OP

Adventures in Babysitting AKA A Night on the Town.

Which reminds me of A ROyal Night Out - on VE DAY the then Princess Elizabeth and Princess Margaret are allowed out of the palace to celebrate, that bit's true, everything else in the film isn't.

Stuck Together on Netflix. Hilarious! You could argue the end is sad but it's also uplifting.

Sgtmajormummy · 31/10/2021 06:29

Two films I’ve seen recently:
Captain Fantastic with Viggo Mortensen.
It’s about bringing up your children the way you know is right, and then letting them go. The advice scene at the airport is memorable.
The 100-Year-Old Man….
The Forrest Gump idea of just missing historical events. I hadn’t read the book.

Pride
Dumpling

groundcontroltomontydon · 31/10/2021 06:59

All of Me with Steve Martin and Lily Tomlin - great cast, brilliantly funny, bonkers plot, the closing credits alone (with SM and LT dancing) will cheer you up

Yusanaim · 31/10/2021 07:10

Napoleon Dynamite. A geek movie. With a happy ending.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 31/10/2021 07:20

@DampSquidGames

CaddieDawg I loved Dimpling, the young star of it is another Netflix film about becoming an Opera singer. It’s called Falling for Figaro.
I was about to recommend Falling for Figaro

Oldie but goldie - Local Hero

Fairyfalls · 31/10/2021 07:24

Last Christmas. This is currently on Netflixs.

Death of Stalin (it’s better than it sounds) is a really good laugh your head off comedy. I loved it.

LorenzoVonMatterhorn · 31/10/2021 07:51

Weekend at bernies?

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 31/10/2021 07:51

Dean Spanley- another Sam Neill film, & a little gem.

queenofarles · 31/10/2021 08:14

Agree with those who suggested Green book, beautiful story , Mahershala Ali was exceptional, really loved his character, beautiful Man.

I think Netflix still has Chocolat and some Jane Austen adaptations on.

Anything Nancy Meyer, it’s complicated, somethings got to give , father of the bride, birdcage all funny and easy to watch.

salty78 · 31/10/2021 08:40

Nomadland - Frances McDormand.

tigerbear · 31/10/2021 08:50
