Can you recommend me a really good uplifting film?

Any age, preferably Romance or comedy or thriller but not depressing. Even it's a classic, because I'm sure there's gaps where I haven't seen certain things. Any suggestions gratefully received Flowers

The blind side

Love & Death (early, funny Woody Allen). It’s gloriously bonkers. Diane Keaton at her best. Also, the classic Prokofiev tune running through it will get you in the mood for Christmas.

The Enchanted April. The book by Elizabeth von Arnim is my comfort blanket, and the film is utterly gorgeous too.

I agree with The Dish too. Lovely film.

DampSquidGames · 30/10/2021 14:44

The Peanut Butter Falcon.

Oh wow just come back to the thread and it is filling up. How lovely Smile I am going to make a big list and work my way through them. Loads I haven't seen, I think the only one I have seen is Good Will Hunting which I loved. Hope the list is also useful to others as well. Very grateful for all the contributions Flowers

Moana.
Not usually a fan of kids films but this fills me with hope and the urge to swing my hair in the wind!

DampSquidGames · 30/10/2021 14:50

Great thread, I’ve just watching Waking Ned, I haven’t seen it before.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 30/10/2021 14:56

Cool Runnings is a brilliant film!!

Stroppypants · 30/10/2021 15:13

@sashh did you mean A Matter of Life and Death?

David Niven plays a RAF pilot and it switches between colour and black&white. It’s a lovely film.

jamandmarmalade · 30/10/2021 15:13

Jerry Maguire

Fritilleries · 30/10/2021 15:29

Morning Glory with Rachel McAdams and Harrison Ford. Go getting young woman, fun job, fun characters... it's a fave.

SquirrelFan · 30/10/2021 16:20

Long shot but...Bad Teacher. Cameron Diaz plays an absolute CF who winds up teaching 12 year olds (I think) and it is so so funny. Also stars Lucy Punch (Motherland) in a hilariously different role.

Hunt For Wildepeople is one of my all time favourites. It’s a joy. So many that have been mentioned, especially:

Strictly Ballroom
The Dish - actually, almost anything with Sam Neill in!
What We Did On Our Holidays
Made In Dagenham
Pride
Sing Street
A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood

That Thing You Do - written and directed by Tom Hanks about a one-hit wonder boy band. Absolutely charming and fun

The live action Peter Pan from 2093 with Jason Isaacs as Hook. Wonderful.

Tangled, Enchanted and Muppet Movie for feel good with kids.
