Who's got this 'supercold'/hideous cough thing doing the rounds? How long did it last?

Not Covid. Toddler DS started with a cough a week and a bit ago, fine otherwise, low grade temp but that was it. Thought it was a teething cough as his back molars are coming in.
Then DH started with it, now I have. DS seemed to recover for a few days and was only having occasional bouts of coughing at night, but seems to have got worse again. He coughed so much today during his nap he made himself sick :(

I think I might have to give the GP a call as he'll hit two weeks of it on Friday and it seems to be getting worse not better. I feel bloody terrible, aches, freezing cold, snuffly, sore throat, sore ears. I'd forgotten what it felt like to get ill!

Mine dragged on for six weeks

Shimmylikejoanholloway · 27/10/2021 21:17

eurgh @lomoloko did you get antibiotics for it? I'm wondering if DS has something bacterial instead of viral he really can't seem to shift it

We had it and it lasted two weeks.

Oh god same here. 13 month old caught it two weeks ago, I managed a week before getting it and I'm still so bunged up on day 6. It is AWFUL. Chesty mucusy coughs all around.
We all did PCRs and they were negative so definitely not the C, and just this horrible cold.

MancMum2000 · 27/10/2021 21:19

Also two weeks - one week feeling rotten and then one week feeling really knackered.

TeamSpike · 27/10/2021 21:20

Same here. Dd (6) has had it for nearly 2 weeks and I'm coming up on a week. Feel bloody awful

Shimmylikejoanholloway · 27/10/2021 21:20

It's grim isn't it? Did you find anything that helped your little one @kitkatkit ? He hasn't napped all week as he goes down, wakes up coughing after half an hour then can't get back to sleep. He's also waking throughout the night because of coughing fits which he never normally does so is exhausted bless him (as are we!)

We are a week in and it has completely knocked me on my arse awful headache scratchy throat , nose running like a tap then a fever now moved down to my chest with a dirty flemy cough awful take care op x

lomoloko · 27/10/2021 21:22

I get sick a lot anyway, so what could have happened is that I got three on the bounce? I had ebbs and flows within those weeks.

I was completely and utterly laid out for 10 days - just sweating and oozing in the most disgusting manner.

Shimmylikejoanholloway · 27/10/2021 21:23

It's horrid, my whole face hurts and I am freezing cold, can't seem to get warm. I just want DS to shake the cough though, I feel so bad for him and it sounds so horrible. Nurofen seems to be helping him sleep to start with (he's very coldy and I think has a headache from the coughing as he keeps rubbing his head) but nothing seems to work for the cough.

mine lasted 12 days....no energy....went back to yoga last week....felt fine for a few days and now have really bad fatigue and ache a bit...and a slight sore throat....no cold symptoms....i know a friend had it for over a month...luckily am retired so dont bother too much...just boring and relentless...

Duckypoohs · 27/10/2021 21:24

Ffs it's not a super anything, has everyone forgotten that people get ill with viruses other than covid?

PurpleDaisies · 27/10/2021 21:24

Keep doing lfts in case you also catch Covid. That’s what’s happened here. Three weeks of coughing, countless negative lfts, three negative pcrs and now positive for Covid. I am thrilled about that.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 27/10/2021 21:24

I wonder if that’s what we’ve got. Dc have terrible cough, snots. On second week. I’m really bunged up and zero energy. All tests are negative.

Squirrelblanket · 27/10/2021 21:25

I came down with it around 28 September. I had to take the following Monday off work as I was so unwell and I am very rarely off sick. I had about two weeks of feeling awful and then since then it's been up and down. Every time I think it's gone, it resurfaces. I feel ok at the moment but still coughing at night. 🙈

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 27/10/2021 21:25

I’ve got it, PCR negative. I’m about 10 days in, exhausted from having little to no sleep with coughing all night. It’s grim.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 27/10/2021 21:30

me
it's been 4 motherfucking weeks and counting.

I have never in my life had 3 weeks of not doing schoolruns, not when I had babies, surgeries, injuries etc.
This vile thing has absolutely floored me.
On the 2nd & 3rd week I had to have a few hours of nap every day.

Nose permanently blocked, so breathing through my mouth makes it dry & makes my throat sore too.
The coughing brings up some yellow mucus every time.
I felt a bit better a few days ago and thoght it was almost over then woke up on Sunday morning and was back to sneezing, having blocked & runny nose at the same time (I don't even understand that), blocked ears, coughing (peeing) & spitting gunk.
and my tongue hurts too, it's like a mild burning sensation.

I've tried everything I could think of to feel better. nothing's got rid of it.
I'm so sick of being ill.

Crimsonripple · 27/10/2021 21:35

Maybe try prop the mattress up a bit. I always stick a couple of pillows under my sons. We had this cough for a while. Particularly bad at night and was just really interrupting his sleep. He'd be sick too. It eventually subsided but it lasted ages!

Viviennemary · 27/10/2021 21:38

Mine lasted around five weeks.

sqirrelfriends · 27/10/2021 21:40

My symptoms started 2 weeks ago and I'm still knackered, if I could I'd stay in bed and on the sofa all day.

I thought maybe it was due to inactivity so tried a run today, nope not happening.

SRK16 · 27/10/2021 21:43

Two weeks here. Still knackered and glands up but getting better slowly.

anunseemlylovefordustin · 27/10/2021 21:47

We haven't got it (touch wood) but just wanted to chime in to say that for nighttime coughing, I really rate using a cool mist humidifier. My LO went through phases of picking up every cough and cold under the sun and used to get really upset coughing at night. I fill up the humidifier, position it so the mist falls over her face, and it seems to magically fix her coughing. Might be worth a go?

WonderfulYou · 27/10/2021 21:57

I’m 3 weeks in.
The first 2 weeks were sore throat, continuous cough, headache, nausea, high temp. Loss of taste and smell and generally feeling unwell.
This past week I’ve still had a horrendous cough and headache but I don’t have a sore throat or high temperature still. Im just exhausted and want to sleep all day but I can’t.

KurtWildeWitchOfTheWoods · 27/10/2021 21:58

Seems to have been the whole of October in my family, started with eldest at the beginning of the month and systematically worked its way down to the youngest! Started like a tummy bug then sore throat, heavy congestion, temp, and then the cough. Their coughs are hanging around but they're all fine in themselves now.

Exh hasn't had them for visitation all month because he didn't want to catch jt, but he popped in with lucozade and calpol last week and managed to pick it up in the space of half an hour. Oops. In all the time I've known him he's only been poorly once, and that was tonsillitis 8 years ago. He was pretty miffed to have picked this mega cold up and it's hit him quite badly. The cough is exhausting he says.

Definitely not covid btw, tests all negative.

I'm the only one who hasn't had it yet and even as I write that I feel like I'm jinxing myself!

anappleadaykeeps · 27/10/2021 23:45

Felt like forever ....

Originally caught it 10th September.

Still on asthma inhalers for the residual cough now. (End October)
