Who's got this 'supercold'/hideous cough thing doing the rounds? How long did it last?

Not Covid. Toddler DS started with a cough a week and a bit ago, fine otherwise, low grade temp but that was it. Thought it was a teething cough as his back molars are coming in.
Then DH started with it, now I have. DS seemed to recover for a few days and was only having occasional bouts of coughing at night, but seems to have got worse again. He coughed so much today during his nap he made himself sick :(

I think I might have to give the GP a call as he'll hit two weeks of it on Friday and it seems to be getting worse not better. I feel bloody terrible, aches, freezing cold, snuffly, sore throat, sore ears. I'd forgotten what it felt like to get ill!

I have it, got it last Monday night, started with sore throat then alternating runny/blocked nose, lots of mucus, cough and headache. Daughter has it now too. Both tested negative for covid. Sympathies to anyone suffering with the bloody awful thing

2 weeks + here.

Vaporub on the feet for the nighttime cough, with loose fitting socks on top.

Hogwarts4Christmas · 28/10/2021 00:11

Had it since 1st of October... still got it, although some sometimes have lessened/ gone, but still can't taste or smell much and really blocked up. Not covid... had that again in August.

*some symptoms

WannabeGilmoreGirl · 28/10/2021 00:17

We've all had it. Bad for a few days then it seemed to go away then came back. DH and I still coughing after 3 weeks. PCR negative.

Newhorizon21 · 28/10/2021 00:21

It's exhausting, & more so when all the family are unwell, but antibiotics will not help a viral common cold, time, rest, ibuprofen, paracetamol & fluids. Get well soon Flowers

TheVanguardSix · 28/10/2021 00:23

Two weeks of that SHITTY cough… hacking to the point of farting and pissing myself. But honestly, once I turned the corner, I turned the corner. It’s been a week since it left. I’m totally back to normal… apart from weight loss and looking like I’ve aged 30 years from the lack of sleep. The cough was just relentless at night.

Clocktopus · 28/10/2021 01:10

I think I've been lucky with it. I came down ill last Thursday with temp, cough, headache, and sore throat. PCR negative. Ill over the weekend, started to feel better on Monday and now I feel fine aside from a little remnant of a cough first thing in the morning, at night, and if I laugh. But there are six of us in the house and I'm the last one to catch it so it feels like it's been dragging on for weeks and weeks.

user64323 · 28/10/2021 02:43

We've all had it, and two of mine honestly haven't even had a cold in at least 5 years, they just don't catch anything usually. We've all had mostly the same symptoms, scratchy throat, then moving to the chest, chesty cough, bad headaches, and lastly nasal congestion. The kids and teenagers have all had temps on and off too, and weirdly their heads felt cool but their bodies very hot. It's really not like us as a family to all have something in such quick succession, not even Covid. Recently found out our neighbours have all had it too so it is very contagious.

My youngest had it first, he was unwell for about 5 days then improved a lot but still has a bit of a cough over 2 weeks on. I had it second and took me about 10 days, I keep thinking its gone but then will have a bout of congestion or headache.

Moomarre · 28/10/2021 06:50

I’ve had it since the 14th September. Bad cough and crushing exhaustion lasted around two weeks, since then I’ve just been a bit tired with a bit of a cough and lots and lots of phlegm

EddieVeddersfoxymop · 28/10/2021 07:54

Into my 5th week here, had to take time off work which I never do. Its easing now, but keeps returning - its very up and down.

I'd like to feel better and a bit more energetic, so if it could just do one please!

2 x neg pcr and lots of neg lfts so definitely not covid.

Toddleberry · 28/10/2021 08:05

Yup, DD and I have both had it for about 4 weeks now. It starts to go, then returns with a vengeance. Nasty thing!

Lightswitch123 · 28/10/2021 08:07

@JosephineDeBeauharnais

I’ve got it, PCR negative. I’m about 10 days in, exhausted from having little to no sleep with coughing all night. It’s grim.

Took about 6 weeks to start to shake it off.

TheLastSpookyBakedBeanSaysBoo · 28/10/2021 08:12

My DS coughed himself sick when he had bronchiolitis and now has a inhaler and spacer to use during cold season as he still struggles when he's ill. The rest of the time he doesn't need it, but he does seem to get colds really badly and they always effect his breathing

Darklane · 28/10/2021 08:23

We’ve got it, even my dog has.

PaperMonster · 28/10/2021 09:26

Day 31 for me here. Feeling exhausted by the whole thing. Had a course of ABs as it went onto my chest.

BoomChicka · 28/10/2021 09:31

I'm on day 10 of it, I thought I was better on Sunday then Monday night was the worst yet I was coughing until I was almost sick through the night and had to try and sleep in the armchair downstairs. Still coughing in the night last night. I've become immune to Night Nurse Hmm and I'm fed up. It's my last bit of AL for the year and it's going to waste!

DrunkenKoala · 28/10/2021 09:31

DD(6) is on about day 18 of it. It took 7 days for her temp to return to normal. She no longer seems snotty and sneezy but the cough is still going strong, especially at night. Luckily the rest of us haven’t caught it.

BoomChicka · 28/10/2021 09:31

It's definitely not Covid, I preferred Covid!

tiredanddangerous · 28/10/2021 09:35

DH is on week 3 of this. I'm not sure my marriage will last through much more of it!!

Gonnagetgoing · 28/10/2021 11:24

Mine luckily gave up after 2 weeks but I still feel very tired, lacking in energy etc.

Relatives have had it clinging on for weeks. People who aren't normally ill have had it and 2 of them - men - lost their voice.

It does go eventually.

Chanel05 · 28/10/2021 11:29

Hope you feel better soon! I felt rotten for three weeks.

Angel2702 · 28/10/2021 11:32

My son has had it since 1st October. Seems to get better then ramps up again. He has missed so much time off school because he isn’t allowed in with a cough. I caught it from him and haven’t had a cough that bad for years.

Bottleofstout · 28/10/2021 11:33

I was properly ill for a fortnight then recovering for a week.

Problem is, another week has gone past and I have aching behind the eyes, my teeth hurt and I have a massive headache. I don't have time to be ill again!
