Takes a week and £32 at the dry cleaners, so not that often here. Maybe I should chance the washing machine

Are we supposed toBlush

gunnersgold · 22/10/2021 18:16

Dry cleaners wash them , duvets unless wool aren't washed !
If it fits and is polyester it's super easy to wash and dry . Feather will require a very sunny and windy day !

SummerHouse · 22/10/2021 18:17

Wash what now?

megletthesecond · 22/10/2021 18:17

Never.

DramaAlpaca · 22/10/2021 18:18

When I get the urge to, which isn't very often. I recently took a few summer weight duvets to the self service laundrette because I was going to vacuum pack them and wanted them clean before storing them. It cost IIRC €30 to wash and dry five of them.

Silverswirl · 22/10/2021 18:18

Haven’t washed it in 20 years. Feather duvet

Scarby9 · 22/10/2021 18:19

Each duvet goes to the laundrette once a year, when I swap the summer and winter duvets over.
At the start of this week, after a couple of chilly mornings where my 4 tog summer duvet just wasn't enough, even with bed socks and a hot water bottle, I decided it was time to swap.
At which point, I remembered that I had never collected the winter duvet back in April....

housecoat1968 · 22/10/2021 18:19

Recently took ours to the launderette as the cat was sick on it.
Got it back clean and fluffy the next day for £16.

TempleofZoom · 22/10/2021 18:19

When I swap sumner to winter and vice versa .
Wash, dry and put in one of those vacuum bags.
Just put the winter duvet on, so lovely and cosy Smile

PolytheneRam · 22/10/2021 18:20

Never. Well, unless one of the pets pisses on it. Then I'll either wash or replace

Phoebesgift · 22/10/2021 18:20

Never have and unlikely to ever clean it.

IsThePopeCatholic · 22/10/2021 18:21

Every 2 or 3 years.

GinIronic · 22/10/2021 18:21

Never. I give it to a local pet charity and buy a new one.

riotlady · 22/10/2021 18:22

Think the last time was when I was pregnant and I weed on it!

Opps! Did they still have it?
IhateBoswell · 22/10/2021 18:59

Probably every 6 months or so.

dayswithaY · 22/10/2021 20:24

It's cheaper to buy a new one (sorry Planet Earth).

Caspianberg · 22/10/2021 20:28

I wash annually. Our wool duvets fit fine in washing machine, except our own super king which I wash in bath. So costs pennies to wash v very expensive duvets.

Although ours was also wash a few months back as well when Ds peed on it!

Bagelsandbrie · 22/10/2021 20:28

I buy a new one every year or so. Can’t be bothered with washing it and they’re never as nice again when you do.

NannyR · 22/10/2021 20:28

I've had mine for ten years and I haven't washed it yet. It's a wool one and one of the selling points is that wool is naturally anti dust mite and anti microbial, not sure how true that is, but it doesn't look dirty and it doesn't smell, so it doesn't need washing!

EileenGC · 22/10/2021 20:32

Duvets can be washed?

I don’t think I’ve ever done mine (I’ll have to ask my mum as it’s the one I took when I left for uni many years ago) but I don’t even know when I’d do it.

I only have one duvet that I sleep with in both summer and winter. It takes a week? I guess I could time it with a holiday but who wants to drop a duvet off before leaving for the airport, and to come back at 11.30pm to an duvet-less bed? What do I sleep with that night? Yes I am choosing to ignore all the sleeping bags the guests use I want my nice duvet

RunningFromInsanity · 22/10/2021 20:33

Once a year on the hottest day of the year so that it can dry in time.

Pillows are also once or twice a year

Roselilly36 · 22/10/2021 20:33

Only when when we change from summer to winter duvets etc. I have a 10kg drum washing machine, so easy to wash & dry and put away until needed.

Whatwouldnanado · 22/10/2021 20:33

Our king size down and feather one gets done once a year usually around Christmas time. I wash and dry kids' single size ones at home more often.
