How often to you clean/wash your duvet?

Takes a week and £32 at the dry cleaners, so not that often here. Maybe I should chance the washing machine

Same as others, at change of season. But at the beginning of it. Just got the winter ones out of the cupboard and will take them next week. Come back 2 days later all clean and fluffy and smelling heavenly.

rosechocolate · 22/10/2021 20:58

@Chunkymenrock

Never. Replace every 3-4 years with a new cheapo supermarket one. Does the job just fine.
Such a waste though!

I've never paid more than £32 for a duvet. They last years. Never washed them either.

Feather duvets are bloody awful. Who wants to be pricked by the end of a feather fifty times a night?

pickingdaisies · 22/10/2021 20:59

So pardon the diversion but people with wool duvets - are they cosy? Next time I buy one I want to move away from synthetic but allergic to feather and down.

My son has one, he likes it!

They're think but warm (not too hot in summer etc)

Yearly. Have Summer & Winter ones

ThatsWhatI · 22/10/2021 21:00

I don't wash mine but I do hang it out on sunny days to kills germs and air it

adrianmolesmole · 22/10/2021 21:01

Every summer, along with my four pillows. I take them to a service wash near me and they do a brilliant job. Costs about 35, so worth it.

rosechocolate · 22/10/2021 21:01

Mine has gone a weird beige colour. Hence the trip to the dry cleaners.

We have white bedding so the weird beige can show through if left.

@rosechocolate one of my childhood memories was being pricked by my parents' feather duvet. I've also recently got rid of some feather cushions because they wouldn't stop sticking in my back.

olidora63 · 22/10/2021 21:03

Never . Didn’t know it was a ‘thing’ !

BonnesVacances · 22/10/2021 21:04

We have down duvets so they need cleaning to stay fluffy. We have two so they get cleaned every six months, usually going from summer to autumn, and then winter to spring.

Rattysparklebum · 22/10/2021 21:05

We have Mr Duvet who collects your duvet, takes it to the launderette, washes and dries it and returns it next day, he charges £25 for my king size feather duvet.

Chunkymenrock · 22/10/2021 21:07

Totally agree with you, but what can we do? I cannot drag them all to the launderette, there isn't a launderette anywhere near me either and a new one is cheaper anyway. I wish all the old ones could be used for loft lagging or something.

diddl · 22/10/2021 21:11

Probably once a year in the Summer when thy'll dry easily.

We have lightish weight ones & add a blanket/fleece in the Winter.

MountainAshley · 22/10/2021 21:12

I wash my duvet twice a year (Kingsize, feather & down) then tumble dry it. I wash my feather pillows every 3 months and tumble dry those too, then sit them on heated airer to make sure the middle is totally dry.

I can't imagine not washing them, you spend a lot of time under your duvet and on your pillows.

Durbeyfield · 22/10/2021 21:13

I didn’t know you could

SylvanasWindrunner · 22/10/2021 21:14

We have coverless ones so every week/fortnight just in the washing machine!

OverByYer · 22/10/2021 21:15

Never . Cheaper to buy new

MerryMarigold · 22/10/2021 21:15

If the dog bleeds on it. It's feather but washable and then tumble dry when nearly dry to fluff up. Usually ends up about one a year.

XenoBitch · 22/10/2021 21:15

I cut up my old ones, and chuck what fits in the washing machine. I then turn them into dog beds.
dudsville · 22/10/2021 21:19

Annually and then additives as needed. We use mid/light weight duvets all year (flannel bedding in winter), so we don't swap, but ours are made from recycled materials and fit easily in the machine at home and dry quickly either in the sun or on a radiator.

CelebrateAndDream · 22/10/2021 21:25

I didn't even know you could wash a feather and down duvet 😳

Do the feathers fluff back up nicely again? I love my (very expensive!) duvet so much...I'd hate to think I'd ruin it ☹️

My summer one gets washed before I pack it away (probably in the next week as it's half term and I have the time 😀)

GorgonzolaSouffle · 22/10/2021 21:27

Oops

Never
