Takes a week and £32 at the dry cleaners, so not that often here. Maybe I should chance the washing machine

Not often but I take them to a launderette. Would never buy a new one for the sake of it. So bad for the environment

Once a year or maybe twice. The biggest duvet is a super king but splits into a 9.5 tog and 4.5 tog so easy to fit in the machine and they dry so fast (air dry).

Not a feather duvet as they are me sneeze. Hence the fast drying. Pillows get done maybe once a year?

ElephantandGrasshopper · 22/10/2021 21:32

One of my children has a dust allergy so we wash them every month. I only buy duvets that fit in the washing machine. Before we had kids I washed them about once a year.

Supersimkin2 · 22/10/2021 21:32

Once a year wash at 60 in the Aug heatwave - otherwise it’s £30 to dry clean.

Bargain.

cricketmum84 · 22/10/2021 21:33

Nah you can't take it to a launderette.

WE DONT DO DUVETS!

perenniallymessy · 22/10/2021 21:33

We have a wool duvet and it said to just air it in the sun when possible. I use a duvet protector so I was that every few months and then pop the duvet outside to air when the protector is drying.

I wash the DS's duvets at least once a year.

Nemorth · 22/10/2021 21:33

Oh and in between times whenever there's a sunny, breezy day they hang on the whirligig outside for some UV cleaning.

Nemorth · 22/10/2021 21:35

@pickingdaisies

So pardon the diversion but people with wool duvets - are they cosy? Next time I buy one I want to move away from synthetic but allergic to feather and down.
I didn't even know wool divers were a thing. Off to investigate too.

I never used to wash ours. Then had a poo accident on the 1 duvet from a rogue nappy. Dutifully stripped the bed and went to buy a new, winter duvet. The same day the puppy peed on the new duvet. So quickly figured out how to wash and dry duvets. Need notes on how to keep dogs and children off my bed though!

HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 22/10/2021 21:45

Erm never Blush

museumum · 22/10/2021 21:45

Never. I only wash down coats once a year, and they get far grubbier.

TuftyMarmoset · 22/10/2021 21:47

Once a year when swapping between winter and summer duvets, before putting them in storage for the other half of the year. Mine fits in the washing machine so no need to take it to the dry cleaners. I find they dry in a day or so.

NotMyCat · 22/10/2021 21:48

@Nemorth I have one from here and love it

Unfortunately with older cats the odd mishap and It goes to Laundryheap. They deliver and collect. Normally once a year as it is goose down.

Blackmagicqueen · 22/10/2021 21:56

I can’t fit super king duvet in 9kg drum so not yet and it is a couple of years old! In my defence we use a top sheet and it also has a duvet cover on. I wash my dc’s duvets as they are small!

MissBridgetJones · 22/10/2021 22:02

Like previous posters, the chilly nights mean my winter duvet just went to the dry cleaners and went on the bed... mmmm, cosy!

Summer one will be stored away and then cleaned before it goes on on the spring/summer.

I feel very grown up.

My feather pillows are a disgrace... might need to do something about them...

Abraxan · 22/10/2021 22:04

We have washable cover less duvets so they get washed pretty frequently. Have them for every bed now. Go in the washer in a morning and then we throw it over the banister to dry during the day. Technically it can be tumble dried but we haven't done so yet. It could obviously also be dried outside.

thenightsky · 22/10/2021 22:04

@TempleofZoom

When I swap sumner to winter and vice versa . Wash, dry and put in one of those vacuum bags. Just put the winter duvet on, so lovely and cosy Smile

When the kids are sick on them. But they haven't done that for many years.

pandora206 · 22/10/2021 22:13

Twice a year at swap over time. My winter one (king size down 13.5 tog) goes to the dry cleaners but the others can be washed in my machine.

LizzieMacQueen · 22/10/2021 22:29

I've never swapped summer/winter. I just have the one duvet that gets aired regularly outside & washed at the cleaners around every 2 years. Pillows can fit in the washing machine and get done a bit more frequently.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/10/2021 22:30

We have an all seasons, 2 buttoned together when it’s seriously cold, so each bit every 6 months or so.

They’re not supposed to be dry cleaned! Wash only. The fumes are toxic. Ours are too big for the washing machine, so they go to the laundry.

justasking111 · 22/10/2021 22:36

Air mine on the decking in the garden hanging over the rails.

I washed some very expensive feather pillows then tumbled they came up smiling

tillytoodles1 · 22/10/2021 22:53

Last time I washed mine the washing machine door flew off and smashed into the freezer door about 10 foot away. I just buy a new one every now and then. live by myself and I'm clean, so it never smells.
