Alec Baldwin has shot two people with what was thought to be a prop gun.

One person, he cinematographer is dead and the second has been hospitalised.

Absolutely stunning news.

The film actually is bizarrely about an accidental killing!

Elderflower14 · 22/10/2021 08:29
@Elderflower14 please warn your mum of the pitfalls of buying into fake news.
🤔 🤔 🤔 I'll be sure to. Pass your warning on!! 😉 😉 😉

@SylvanasWindrunner

The film actually is bizarrely about an accidental killing!
Which is what I was implying and got jumped on!
Bennetgirl · 22/10/2021 08:30

How will he get over this? I really feel for him and the families of those involved.

He's very anti gun isn't he? Maybe he shot it while rehearsing and shot it again in shock?

What an awful accident.

Gingernaut · 22/10/2021 08:30

Speculation isn't helpful, really.

Gun fired in quick succession? Shotgun? Who knows?

Of course, the tabloids have invasive paparazzi photos now.

@Elderflower14

My Mum's just said she thinks the plot of the film was about someone being shot on a filmset.. If that is true then its really spooky...
Your Mum's way off...

Harland Rust is an outlaw with a bounty on his head. When his thirteen-year-old grandson Lucas is convicted of accidental murder and sentenced to hang, Rust travels to Kansas to break him out of prison. Together, the two fugitives must outrun the legendary U.S. Marshal Wood Helm and bounty-hunter Fenton "Preacher" Lang.

Marelle · 22/10/2021 08:31

Yes the film actually is about an accidental killing by the grandson of Baldwin’s character. That is not fake news, it’s a fact.

megletthesecond · 22/10/2021 08:31

It's awful. I can't believe there aren't endless checks and responsible people who prevent this from ever happening.

GCAcademic · 22/10/2021 08:33
@GCAcademic He's been very vocal about being anti-firearms and critical of 'accidental' shootings by police, etc. so the fact he has now accidentally shot someone has got them all frothed up about how he didn't respect firearms and sharing tweets of him blasting accidental shootings, blah blah blah.
Thanks for the explanation.

Horrible.

MorrisZapp · 22/10/2021 08:34

Horrible tragedy, and the female victim has a son.

I absolutely love westerns and that plot sounds right up my street, I shouldn't think this film will be completed now, or perhaps the remaining crew will continue as a tribute to the director they lost.

FlorenceWintle · 22/10/2021 08:35

Poor man. He’ll feel responsible even though it’s unlikely to be his fault.

Claudethecat · 22/10/2021 08:36

God, how horrible. The gutter press will have a field day.

girlmom21 · 22/10/2021 08:37

I do hope it is an accident and he doesn't face any criminal charges

FlorenceWintle · 22/10/2021 08:37

He’s a Democrat and also anti-Trump (he did a lot of sketches on SNL dressed up as Trump) so that lot are all revelling in it as well. Horrible people.

saltontoast · 22/10/2021 08:39

This is absolutely awful, for everyone involved. How is this still happening?

Couchbettato · 22/10/2021 08:43

I feel shook.

I have no idea how I'm meant to feel about this.

inigomontoyahwillcox · 22/10/2021 08:44

Was utterly shocked to hear this on the news this morning, the poor family and friends of Halyna Hutchins, all hope that Joel Souza recovers.

Alec Balwin must be absolutely beside himself - how do you get over something like this?

ancientgran · 22/10/2021 08:49

@StormyTeacups

Why was he pointing a gun at them in the first place? I could understand slightly more if they were fellow actors shooting a scene etc. And how two people? Shoot once, reaim, shoot again?
What a vile thing to say.

Just heard on TV that Joel Souza has been released from hospital.
ItsAllMumboJumbo · 22/10/2021 08:50

Awful

Chicchicchicchiclana · 22/10/2021 08:51

I am shocked that they actually shoot blanks on film sets.

Ostryga · 22/10/2021 08:52

He’s been released without charge after speaking to the police. It was just a horrifying accident.
HoardingSamphireSaurus · 22/10/2021 08:56

Good news @ancientgran

Thesearmsofmine · 22/10/2021 08:57

This is so awful, devastating for all those involved.

peridito · 22/10/2021 08:57

re posting these helpful comments by jollyandBright and HoardingSamphireSaurusfor those who can't read the whole 3 pages

"It was supposed to be a prop gun but somehow must’ve been real and loaded.

This is a common misconception.
There is no such thing as a ‘prop gun’, they are always real guns, they are just loaded with blanks, which are shell casing with the explosive material but no bullet inside, so it makes the bank but nothing is fired out.

What has likely happens is that the gun was previously fired in another take and part of the blank rounds she’ll casing broke off and lodged in the barrel of the gun, on the next take it was fired and the piece of casing was ‘shot’ out of the gun.

It’s already been stated he was ‘firing at the camera in the scene’ the director and cinematographer would have been sat behind the camera so it makes sense".

"It is likely tit was a camera rehearsal, not shooting a scene, So they would have been stand ins, probably discussing how it would best be set up and filmed. Cinematographers do this all the time. It's how they work out how best to frame a scene, they stand in for the actors and rehearse a scene from all angles.

As JollyAndBright said, the likelihood is that a pervious casing was jammed in the barrel. So sloppy cleaning and another reason for the fake 'realism' of guns in movies to be removed, replaced"
