AIBU about DPD driver

LollipopsPanda · 21/10/2021 20:08

Today I went to put my 14mo down for lunchtime nap. Recently we've had a lot of Amazon delivery drivers knocking really loudly, and I was expecting a delivery around lunchtime, so I pinned a polite note on the door of our apartment saying "baby sleeping, please knock quietly".

Just as I was just putting baby into cot I heard a knocking. It progressively got louder and louder. The baby started crying and so I started trying to calm her back to sleeping. The knocking kept getting louder. There were multiple knocks then a pause, then another knock and so on.

I was really annoyed because I'd specifically pinned the sign up and now my baby was upset and I was going to have to work hard to get her down again.

I went out to the door to see who it was but before opening the door I peeped through the peep hole to check. I saw the driver from DPD, and saw that he was looking right at the note. Then I saw him read the note and very obviously roll his eyes and huff, and then knock pointedly and extremely loudly and slowly about ten times! Because he didn't know I could see him, I couldn't believe how horrible and deliberately nasty he was being! I wasn't sure whether to open the door as he seemed v passive aggressive. I also wasn't sure why he was still knocking anyway as we have a post room in the building where he could have just left the parcel if the person doesn't answer. Anyway, he then knocked again, but this time before doing so, he fished his massive tablet out of his delivery bag and banged on the door with the corner of it, really bloody loudly! His face was making a sort of "f*#% you" expression. It was so loud the whole corridor must have heard it.

I was so angry, by this time my baby had started crying again. I opened the door and had a go at him. I wasn't rude and I didn't swear but I was as angry as I've felt in years! I was seething and I think it was the mumma bear in me! I said "you are so completely out of line, I know you've read the sign etc". He started saying he needed a photo of the parcel by the door and I interrupted him and told him he'd had plenty of time to take it all the times he was knocking! He then took a photo of my face, and I shut the door on him.

I had to go and look after my baby but I was really fuming!

I'm thinking of complaining to DPD. Would you or should I just forget it? I think he must have knocked at least 10 separate times, each time getting louder until the tablet bashing.

Yanbu. He was an inconsiderate arse. I'd complain.

BigSigh2021 · 21/10/2021 21:14

Please do complain. What a twat.

TwinklyBranch · 21/10/2021 21:16

Really? He waited that long and knocked that much? Here if you don't sprint to the door right away you've no chance of getting your parcel!

We get a mixture of persistent, loud knockers and relentless door bell ringers and then ones that vanish as soon as you get to the door.

Bluepop09 · 21/10/2021 21:25

I vote yabu only because with DPD you can literally see how many houses away the driver is and they give you a specific time slot. He has a job to do and doesn't want to be standing around for ages waiting for you to answer the door, which from the amount of times he knocked it sounds like he was. I wouldn't complain.

InTheLabyrinth · 21/10/2021 21:29

Youd told him you were in because there was a sleeping baby. You didnt respond when he knocked initially (and maybe gently). Then you didnt respond when he knocked a bit harder, then you watched him knock harder and harder trying to attract your attention.
He was being an arse knocking that hard, but if you'd opened the door as soon as he arrived, you could have saved yourself quite a lot of grief, and minimised the disruption to your child.

Gluestick80 · 21/10/2021 22:01

You should have just answered the first time he knocked.

Whoopsmahoot · 21/10/2021 22:03

He was kinda damned if he did, damned if he didn’t 🤷‍♂️ Knock too quietly and you won’t hear and get your parcel. Too loud and youre pissed off. 🤷‍♂️

GobletofFiyah · 21/10/2021 22:23

Why didn't you just answer the door though?

Theunamedcat · 21/10/2021 22:27

They have a post room he could have used that might have been easier for him
FreeElf · 21/10/2021 22:35

Do you know how many drops these poor drivers have to do each day?! If you don’t want people knocking on the door and disturbing the baby try click and collect instead, lots of companies will now deliver to a drop off point and you can collect at your convenience then. Please don’t complain about some poor guy trying to do his job.

LollipopsPanda · 21/10/2021 22:40

It wasn't a DPD order though @Bluepop09 it was just an Amazon delivery. They are using DPD drivers for some reason. It makes no difference when the parcel arrived, and it could have been left outside our door as many do, or in the post room!

OP posts:
LollipopsPanda · 21/10/2021 22:42

@FreeElf That doesn't justify his behaviour whatsoever. I may have a tough job to do but I don't get to treat people like that. In any case, Amazon drivers normally leave stuff outside our apartment door or in the post room.

XiCi · 21/10/2021 22:46

WTF! So you were just spying on him as he knocked louder and louder then want to complain that he knocked loudly? How about just answering the door at the first opportunity. You sound like a crank.

Munchkinpumpkin · 21/10/2021 22:46

Er just open the door, he ignored your note, its a small thing.. why on earth you was peeping on him .. thats just weird

CalamityJaneway · 21/10/2021 22:49

Some poor guy?? Give me a break. Knock once, no answer, leave a note, move on.
But ohhh no. He saw an opportunity to make a woman's life difficult because he's contrary and misogynist, has clearly never dealt with a newborn and is completely self absorbed. Screw that guy, completely justified response. Not to mention that bashed her door in with the corner of a tablet - what in the heck Shock we`re just OK with tha?

SeasonalNamechange · 21/10/2021 22:54

yabu

and you know it!

careerchangeperhaps · 21/10/2021 23:12

Perhaps he couldn't read / understand the note? Many of our DPD drivers are foreign with poor English literacy skills.

samesign · 21/10/2021 23:14

When you're getting too many deliveries at the door, stop ordering online so much, click and collect. Amazon couriers are the worst, I stopped shopping with them unless I really have to.

PumpkinsandTea · 21/10/2021 23:34

YABVVVVVVVVVVVVVU & entitled. Your baby could go back to sleep - he had a job to do! Next time get the Amazon app! It shows you a live tracker and says how many stops away your driver is. You spent time spying on him (Hmm) but didn't answer the door - YABVVVVU!

clockover · 21/10/2021 23:38

Yep. The whole situation sounds ridiculous. You should have just opened the door as soon as you were able.

Skyeheather · 21/10/2021 23:40

Why didn't you just pick up the baby and answer the door on the first knock? Your baby wasn't properly asleep, someone knocking at the door wouldn't wake my baby if he was properly sleeping.

How does your baby sleep in the evening when you've got the TV on, when you're in and out of the bathroom, flushing the toilet, when you've got people round and there's talking/laughing in the next room.

Maybe you should get your Amazon orders sent to an Amazon locker in future if the delivery time doesn't fit in with your baby's nap time!

Bellyups · 21/10/2021 23:42

YABU. I’m guessing baby is your PFB

catfunk · 21/10/2021 23:45

Yabvvu

ABitOfAShitShow · 21/10/2021 23:46

I’m not particularly child-friendly but even I’m surprised at the responses you’re getting here. He’s so obviously out of order and DPD explicitly say you can leave a note since covid began anyway!

It’s like the crazy responses on the thread where the postie kept banging even though the poster was in the middle of a work presentation. Everyone kept saying she’d done something wrong and answered the door! Mid-presentation!
