Undercooked chicken

DH cooked dinner tonight. I merrily took a bite of my Birdseye chicken burger to find it wasn't properly cooked. It wasn't completely raw, but still looked a bit pink. I spat it out when I realised so I don't think swallowed any. Will I definitely get ill from this? I have an important meeting tomorrow so I'm panicking I'm going to have d&v!

Should be fine as you didn’t eat any.

EarringsandLipstick · 20/10/2021 19:53

You'll be fine. That's a very big over-reaction!

Ta for the additional unnecessary opinion on my 'reaction' Hmm

Aren't Birdseye chicken burgers already cooked, and then just reheated from frozen??

I thought the same, but when I looked online it said contains raw meat. It definitely looked undercooked/pink and it came out looking cooked when it came back out of the oven

I had this the other day OP, made one for 19 mo DS, cooked it exactly as instructed (2 minutes longer than required) and it looked under cooked in my opinion so I chucked it out.

I’m super careful about cooking food for my little ones as I’m a raging emetophobe. It was over cooked yet looked a bit raw. Oven was fully preheated too so not that.

Yes I wish I'd looked at it before stuffing it in my mouth! It was only when I took it out and inspected the rest of the burger I noticed it was still pink on top Confused

Well, it IS a bit of an over reaction OP.

  1. you didn’t eat any, you spat it out

  2. even if you’d had a bite or two, there’s no guarantee at all you’ll be ill. You’d more than likely you’d be fine even then

  3. if you whip yourself up into a panic about it you’ll convince yourself you’re sick.

It really isn't. I have a very important meeting, which you don't know the nature of, which I cannot miss and it would be just my luck to have the bloody shits - hence the question!

I'll never understand why people have to come along and nit pick at a poster...

You asked for reassurance though didn’t you?!

I asked to see if anyone else had done similar and what happened Smile

I often cook similar things and they look abit undercooked but they are actually fine!
You spat it out aswell so, honestly you'll be fine for your meeting tomorrow!

Good luck!

And I say this because I understand your worry..
But try to forget about it now
And just focus on the meeting which you will be absolutely fine for :)

I ate undercooked chicken when I was young, not a great cook and thought I was invincible.
Nothing ever happened.

Oh pleased to hear this. That's what I wasn't sure of - whether you will definitely be unwell, or whether it is more you could be unwell. In any case I didn't actually eat so hopefully I'll be fine!

Why not buy a cooking probe thing and then you can check it's cooked before serving.

P.s. it was a bit of an overreaction if you never actually swallowed any of it

dementedpixie · 20/10/2021 20:35

Was it hot?

I mean I didn't swallow it, but I had a good old chew so anything nasty could be in my saliva? I don't know how this sort of thing works, but that's why I asked.

Question - what are you hoping to achieve by pointing out that you think ive overreacted? Imagine if I was actually besides myself with worry, I'd feel even worse you telling me I'm overreacting!

@dementedpixie

Was it hot?
Warm - I expected it to be hotter, which plus the weird texture, was what made me spit it out.

I wasn't joking about the probe thing btw. We use one to double check meat temperatures

statetrooperstacey · 20/10/2021 20:58

I think the main reason to fear undercooked chicken is salmonella etc, this wouldn’t be present in such a processed food I don’t imagine (read the list of ingredients on the back it’s full of preservatives etc) you won’t get food poisoning or even the shits from a half cooked chicken burger.
If the burger had been half cooked then kept warm for hours it might be a problem but if hadn’t do don’t worry. Good luck for your interview, if the worry is all consuming take an Imodium in the morning.
