What was THE INCIDENT at your secondary school?

Inspired by a thread on another website that I randomly came across throught google.

Every school has some sort of 'infamous incident' that passed into the annals of school infamy and was the sole topic of gossip for months if not years.

What was yours?

Mine was the head teacher had an affair with another teacher. Both were married. It all became public on the last day of term and neither of them came back the following term. Just disappeared. No one talked about anything else for a long time.

Lot of affairs on here. That other thread is all shootings and drink driving.

Male here and in last year of primary our teacher who used to get in with swimming lessons used to shower naked with us all .

HollowTalk · 17/10/2021 19:41

@tiredanddangerous

maths teacher sleeping with a sixth former. He left his job (and his wife!) to move with her to her university city.
That's just what you want in your first term at uni isn't it?

One of the nuns in the enclosed teaching order at one of my convent schools suddenly vanished. She was young and cheerful liked dancing to rock music and was proud of her 28" waist. It was rumoured she had gone off with an electrician.

FitAt50 · 17/10/2021 19:44

We had builers in who were replacing all the 70s tiles in the main hall. Some kid through across the playground (frisbee style) and it hit a girl in the face - she lost and eye.

Biscoffee · 17/10/2021 19:45

Still think about her today sometimes, she always looked so lonely the odd time I saw her between lessons.

We were told to stay away from our classmate if we ever saw her once she’d left school. It was heartless. But what still haunts me is how tiny she was (she’d been a premature baby herself) and in her school uniform it really did look like a little girl having a baby.

I hope her life worked out well for her and that she has some peace of heart.

LavenderAskew · 17/10/2021 19:45

Not a lot by comparison. Though I was a very unobservant sort so likely to have missed a lot!

The science lab was set on fire one night (rumour was boy in my year threw a petrol bomb though the window, panicked and ran home to tell his mum)

Also a teacher came in one day an annouched she was to be called "Miss xxx" not Mrs xxx" (same surname) and then not that long after married on of the other teachers and had a baby. (Turned out she was in an awful marriage and got an annulment)

That's it!!

SirenSays · 17/10/2021 19:46

There were a lot of incidents that made the news but I have one that not many people knew about.
My friend started dating a boy in the year above. He assaulted her, she called him out so people started choosing sides. It all blew up one afternoon when his family came to attack her after school. She called her family who came to defend her. It ended up in a massive brawl with the English head and three PE teachers getting involved and throwing punches. The next day her PE teacher warned her not to tell anyone what happened.

herecomesthsun · 17/10/2021 19:47

Also the boys' school which was linked with ours (run by monks) has been in the papers a lot in recent years for sex abuse of pupils by the teachers, which probably happened around the time I was going to the sister school.

Thulian · 17/10/2021 19:47

Girl who was pregnant at 12 - she was a bully who had targeted me so I didn’t mind her disappearing from the school, but I feel awful for her now :(

Male sixth former ran off with female french teacher and they had a baby.

Two PE teachers’ spouses had an affair and ran off with each other, when this got out everyone constantly speculated on the fact that the two dumped teachers should get together themselves. Poor things! It would never have happened, they couldn’t have been worse suited but they never heard the end of it.

Two of my teachers had a decades long affair which I only knew about because my mum was a teacher at another school and it was well known there. In the end they left their partners and got married.

Two teachers at my middle school were know to live together and widely rumoured to be a lesbian couple, but I’m glad to say it was very accepted and nothing bad happened to them.

MolkosTeenageAngst · 17/10/2021 19:48

One of the science teachers (who was in his mid thirties) was sleeping with a 15 year old pupil. All of us students knew, I remember my sister and I telling our parents at the dinner table he was creepy, looked down our T-shirts and was going out with a girl in the year above but of course they didn’t believe us and told us off for making false accusations that could get him into trouble.

It had been going on for months before he was seen with the girl out of school and it was reported to the police. He was arrested and later found guilty. This was in around 2001.

ThirdElephant · 17/10/2021 19:50

Spiked railings around the school field. Kid tried to climb over it and ended up putting a spike through his hand. The spike got cut off when the boy got taken to hospital so there was a missing spike on the fence that went down in school history.

BlusteryLake · 17/10/2021 19:52

A sixth form boy having an affair with the art teacher. Not that remarkable except the boy is now a famous actor!

WhatFreshHellisCis · 17/10/2021 19:52

@Mercedes519

God there is a lot of dodgy relationships going on. In my school it was the music teacher…

There was the day the science block caught fire. That was quite an incident!

This wasn’t a school in Devon, was it?!
Thulian · 17/10/2021 19:53

Oh and someone brought an air gun to school once and shot someone else in the leg.

Our school was rough, but the catholic school up the road was rougher. Gangs of lads from our school used to go there to fight their gangs of lads.

I had a friend who went to a much posher school. There was a scandal there one Christmas when the 6th formers sprayed swear words on their common room window with fake snow and some got suspended.

I was Confused and thought it was the biggest non-story ever :o

IWillWoooTheGhoulWillow · 17/10/2021 19:55

@Threewheeler1

A bunch of girls in the year below me going to the Valentines Ball and ending up on the front page of The Sun. They were all underage and pictured drunk & snogging grim blokes. They hadn't planned on parents etc finding out they were going so it was all a bit scandalous. What a way to be outed having a rebellious teenage moment!
@Threewheeler1 either this is more common than I thought, or you were in the year above me! Naice leafy area?
Jconnais1chansonquivavsenerver · 17/10/2021 19:55

@OhWhyNot

Yes early 80’s Was it in SW19 MydogWillow

I watched it from Elys ….

Oh, feck, I was at one of the schools involved, in the sixties, I read about that fight long after I'd left!
EmoIsntDead · 17/10/2021 19:55

@MintyGreenDream

4th year would be 9 year olds here! ??
4th years in Scotland would be 15/16
Sproutpie · 17/10/2021 19:55

Another…. Not at my school but a neighbouring one where my friend went. A boy had a baby with a girl in 4th year and twins with another the following year. Meaning he had 3 kids at 16 😮

janj2301 · 17/10/2021 19:57

Music teacher died, she was on after school bus duty, stood too close to the edge and the wing mirror of the bus hit her in the head, died instantly, he was pulling in, so not going fast, they said she must have had a fragile skull. Even now, 50 years later, always stand back from the kerb when the bus approaches

EssexCat · 17/10/2021 19:57

It was before my time hit a lion escaped from the circus on the town green and ran through the school. Was on national news!

TabithaTiger · 17/10/2021 19:58

We had quite a few incidents (fairly rough school, late 80's/ early 90s)

The maths teacher and PE teacher (both married) who had an affair. They ended up divorcing their spouses and getting married.

Home Economics teacher who was shagging the music teacher (in the cookery room cupboard, so the rumour goes!)

Another maths teacher who was sacked for sexually harassing a student's mum.

Then there was the Great Fight of 1990 between our school and the one down the road. That still gets talked about now.

EmoIsntDead · 17/10/2021 19:59

Not that that makes it any better!

JennetHumfrye · 17/10/2021 19:59

We had two at my school during my time there. Firstly, our woodwork teacher had a full on punch up in the playground with one of the students (in fairness he was an obnoxious little sh*t who had been really pushing his luck).

Secondly a very brilliant but troubled lad in my year decided to drink some chemicals in our Chemistry lesson and had to be rushed to hospital to have his stomach pumped. He survived it thankfully but he was seen as a bit of an attention seeking idiot after that.

SunshineCake1 · 17/10/2021 19:59

Nothing really shocking.

Geography teacher slapped G in the mouth.

M was pregnant at 15. I remember her not being embarrassed at all. Now I just think why should she. She had three kids by the time she was 18.
