What was THE INCIDENT at your secondary school?

NoviceNewMN · 17/10/2021 17:42

Inspired by a thread on another website that I randomly came across throught google.

Every school has some sort of 'infamous incident' that passed into the annals of school infamy and was the sole topic of gossip for months if not years.

What was yours?

Mine was the head teacher had an affair with another teacher. Both were married. It all became public on the last day of term and neither of them came back the following term. Just disappeared. No one talked about anything else for a long time.

Oh I forgot - seriously there are so many!

15 year old female student had fling with coach driver on school trip to Germany. Was found naked in wardrobe of coach drivers room by a teacher.

@SylvanasWindrunner

Our biology teacher and a student who had just left sixth year got together and set up home. Her parents were our neigbours. There was a story in the paper and everything!
Biology teacher at our school married an ex pupil not long after she left school. No one batted an eyelash over it. We went to their wedding, and even at his wedding were still calling him Mr ......., rather than his first name.
scaredy42 · 17/10/2021 19:26

Head of sixth form had sex with (and supplied drugs to) a 17-year-old sixth former. He was cleared of actually having sex with her or supplying drugs in court, but there were tons of texts between them that were very questionable, so I presume it was on lack of evidence. At the time the papers all focused on how promiscuous and mentally ill she was, which looking back was pretty disgusting. I remember the teachers going to buy every copy of the local paper they could the day the news broke so nobody would bring them into school.

(I imagine that's very outing if anyone sees this...!)

And a fair few of teachers got together/had affairs, including two who were having an affair according to some fairly reliable sources - she got divorced, he went back to his wife. They were in the same department too, awkward.

@OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias

We had a recurring joke that was played a couple of times a year, where someone would go and get a horse off the nearby common and persuade it into the ground floor of the teaching block. When the bell went for break, everyone would pile down the central staircase and then form a giant horse-based logjam until someone took the horse away.

By the time my brother went to secondary, there was a variation on this where someone would knock at the door of a classroom and when the teacher opened it, there would be a horse outside.

My school was rough as bags 😁

Mine too. No horse-relates incidents but if there had been accessible horses there would have been!
cptartapp · 17/10/2021 19:27

Our catholic school made the front page of the NOTW circa 1987 when my French teacher was caught taking photos in pornographic poses with the music teacher in the classroom after hours. There were also liaisons with ex pupils.
Massive scandal at the time but we always thought he was weird. Used to get the girls to describe their bedrooms in French during lessons.

MrsCatE · 17/10/2021 19:27

Lots of pregnancies - one 12 year old tried to hide it by wearing her winter coat; she couldn’t do it up over the bump so stuck her hands in the pockets and tried to cover bump that way. My friends younger sister was threatened with gang rape - they went to her house and tried to break in. The school persuaded the parents not to take action - I haven’t got foggiest how. Loads of teacher condoned bullying against pupils who were considered middle class - I went to a very trendy, right on, left wing school. Loads of pupil / teacher relationships. My science teachers often took me a local pub, bought drinks and slipped me ‘stuff’. Biology teacher asked for snog at school disco. Looking back, I can’t believe it. A friend and I have done some very basic research to try and find one of our form tutors and file a report.

AdoraBell · 17/10/2021 19:27

1980’s, left school at 16, last day of term the deputy head was stabbed. He survived. The knife was being passed around the 5th year boys while they decided who would have the “privilege” of stabbing him.

That sounds horrific but the teacher was a serious bully. Years before he knocked a 14 yr old boy off his chair by hitting his head with a book. After that he did the same to a 15 yr old girl and got away with it when her parents complained by saying he thought she was a boy.

itsgettingwierd · 17/10/2021 19:28

@MintyGreenDream

4th year would be 9 year olds here! ??
Yes yr 4 is 9.

In secondary it's what is also called yr 10.

But that's still 14/15yo so totally unacceptable!

DeathMetalMum · 17/10/2021 19:30

Deputy head had various affairs, and 'stole' the money we had been raising since Y7 for a new sixth form block. They suddenly no longer worked at the school when we were in year 10, and the rumours why could have been worthy of a soap story.

cortex10 · 17/10/2021 19:30

Our hated headteacher was taken to hospital with a suspected heart attack - the news spread like wildfire and there were dozens of pupils hanging out of the windows cheering as the ambulance took him away (funny that no staff were around to stop them) - he survived.

MrsFin · 17/10/2021 19:30

Deputy Head dropped down dead in the corridor, and PE teacher hung herself.

Lovealovestory · 17/10/2021 19:31

Really odd English teacher who was in love with a Somali pirate, or so she said. One day she announced she wouldn't be back tomorrow, as she was going to Africa live on a pirate boat.
No idea if there was truth in it.
She might have been batshit or a story teller but she might have been groomed. Either way we never saw her again.

We also has a pedo drama teacher who travelled the world with students but he was only caught last year, I left school over 10 years ago. He was in his 40s then and had been teaching 20 years at that point. I dread to think how many poor victims there were.

EggsellentSmithers · 17/10/2021 19:32

Two years before I joined the school, a yr11 pupil was murdered quite horrifically. National news. Was still talked about when I joined the school as it was such a big deal. Remained reported on for quite some time too.

Girls school, quite a few rumours about teachers and students although I was never sure how real any of it was to be honest. Just rumours/speculation from teenagers with F all to talk about and no boys to fancy😆

Babyroobs · 17/10/2021 19:32

@MrsFin

Deputy Head dropped down dead in the corridor, and PE teacher hung herself.
We had a couple of teachers take their own lives not long after I left the school. Very sad.
KurtWilde · 17/10/2021 19:33

Kid in the year above me threw himself through a safety glass door, managed to shatter it and died from massive blood loss. It actually happened just as we'd been down that corridor to the music room. We were in lessons and heard screams and commotion but weren't allowed out to see what was happening. The teacher left briefly, came back in in a panic and ushered us all out of the fire doors into the playground.

I don't know the ins and outs of how he actually did it but the corridor was out of bounds for a couple of weeks while it was cleaned proper and doors replaced.

Standrewsschool · 17/10/2021 19:34

Not at my school, but someone tried to burn a local private boys school. There was a candle in each room. Years later, the head got jailed for child abuse. We presume it was a victim who tried to burn the school down.

Doorhandleghost · 17/10/2021 19:36

Let’s see.

Fifth form raided for drugs, girls found to be dealing from there.

English teacher who routinely dated the 6th formers, was common knowledge and school leadership did absolutely nothing about it

Married teacher (F) who had an affair with another unmarried teacher (M) - was revealed by some of the fourth form walking in on them one lunchtime in the spring term. He left at the end of that term and she returned after the summer with his last name. I still marvel at how quickly she got that divorce!

Constant rumours about the lesbian PE mistress and the showers…. No one would voluntarily shower after games. That smelled nice….

Lots of rumours about the sexuality of other staff - definitely there were one or two who worked in a school because they liked young girls

Always felt sorry for the one and only pupil who got pregnant, she would have been 13 - the school culture was to regularly give us sermons on the evils of getting pregnant without and established life in place etc and we were told to stay away from her (she wasn’t in my year) Still think about her today sometimes, she always looked so lonely the odd time I saw her between lessons.

This was a very nice private girls school!

Ludo19 · 17/10/2021 19:37

Teacher punching a pupil in the mouth.

Pupil downing snakebites and buzzing gas in lunchtime then collapsing in history.

Locking the art teacher in a cupboard.

Teen pregnancies and shock horror, a pupil sharing a bath with her much older boyfriend.

secretbookcase · 17/10/2021 19:38

Where to start?

English teacher had a torrid affair with 6th form boy and was heartbroken when he left her for a pupil, and had a breakdown in class.

History teacher flashed at a girl in the park. When she complained she was told off by the Head for putting his career in jeopardy.

A girl left school at twelve because she was pregnant by her own father.

A boy walking down the drive beside the playing fields was killed instantly by a flying cricket ball.

A pupil riot made the worldwide news.

I hated my school.

larkstar · 17/10/2021 19:38

A male art teacher hung himself in his garden after a younger female science teacher broke off their affair. I was never very keen on him - he must have been 40’s and she was a newly qualified teacher in her 20’s - I could not imagine what she saw on him - a very odd couple - it was strange not seeing the art teacher around school - she stayed and continued to teach there.

Lovelydovey · 17/10/2021 19:38

Music teacher had affair with married art teacher with children. He left the school. 25 years later they are married with teenage children.

Chaplain jailed for stealing church funds to buy drugs for his gay lover. We all thought he was creepy and weren’t allowed to be alone with him, even the teachers enforced this, but we had no idea.

20 years after I left, the then headteacher was jailed for paedophilia (underage sexual assault).

School has since closed.

Botanica · 17/10/2021 19:38

We had an RE teacher who used to organise an annual mercy mission to Poland. The year we were due to go, all of the money collected and paid for our trips disappeared and she then left the school. I don't recall ever getting a satisfactory story about what happened so the rumour mill went into overdrive.
We all then still had to sit out RE GCSE with zero tuition for the remainder of the year.

Rosemaryandlemon · 17/10/2021 19:38

I was at a girls grammar. We did lots with the boys grammar over the road. Young (ish) English teacher from boys school got sixth former pregnant at my school pregnant. She was from a strict catholic family. They got married and he moved to where she went to university. The shock was more she got pregnant (head of the Christian Union), but looking back I’m more shocked nothing happened to the chap.

KurtWilde · 17/10/2021 19:39

Oh and the year after that - I guess in modern day terms year 7 - a girl in my class was pregnant at 12. She left very suddenly around 6 months after everyone found out, didn't come back.

waltzingparrot · 17/10/2021 19:39

Yr 5 boy (Y11 equivalent because this was in the 70s) stabbed a girl to death and put her body under his bed. He was a friend of a friend so occassionally hung around with our group at lunchtime.

He was locked up for her majesty's pleasure so presume he's still there.

Also, Debbie What'shername in 5N got preggers and refused to tell her mum until she was 6 months.
