Can someone explain what my son saw?

My DS (14) and his friends went for a walk deep in the woods yesterday. They came across four people standing in a circle with candles and markings on the ground. Two were dressed in all black, very smart, like priests. The other two were in normal clothes and were bleeding from their arms. My son said he saw them cut themselves, they were mumbling something inaudible while the two in all black held their arms in the air and chanted. When they realised they were being watched one of the people in black told the boys they were going to cut their heads off if they don’t leave. I know it’s true because one of the kids filmed it and I’ve watched it. Wtf!?

Am I seeing the same thing in the first photo as everyone else? It looks like a scary figure with its head thrown back and its mouth open?!

Hmmm, I’m seeing the back of someone’s head. But it’s either a really bad wig or a very unfortunate hair do.

Given I’m putting bets on the wig, I would think some acting shite so they can put it on one of these social media things, get a million views and 2 seconds of fame. I don’t think they have tried nearly hard enough and it will be a dismal failure, quite the waste of time really. Threatening people walking by is rude and not on at all.

BashfulClam · 17/10/2021 13:31

It’s weird that as a non Christian (rebelled in my 20’s) I know more than the supposed Christian on here. I have read the bible, both testaments. Didn’t Jesus say we should live simply and give what we could to the poor? Why the fuck do we have churches inlaid with marble and gold in that case, it’s actually against the teachings of the very person they claim to worship and basically curls a massive steamer on his message!

KloppsTeeth · 17/10/2021 13:31

@JudyGemstone

I’m not that well informed but isn’t satanism more about the separation of church and state when it comes to law making in society?

So more akin to a fancier type or atheism than devil worship? As most satanists don’t believe in God or the devil and don’t believe laws should be based upon the assumption that they exist (see abortion laws in the US/Republic or Ireland).

@JudyGemstone That’s secularism.

I saw a chapel all of gold
That none did dare to enter in
And many weeping stood without
Weeping mourning worshipping

I saw a serpent rise between
The white pillars of the door
And he forcd & forcd & forcd
Down the golden hinges tore

And along the pavement sweet
Set with pearls and rubies bright
All his slimy length he drew
Till upon the altar white

Vomiting his poison out
On the bread & on the wine
So I turnd into a sty
And laid me down among the swine

Indeed.

There is a huge movement of psychiatrists who are currently saying that satanic and ritual abuse does not happen within the UK.

What a bizarre thing to post.

The fact is that there is a huge movement of counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, police officers, social workers and GPs who believe that there are significant networks of satanists active in the UK. These people share the bizarre belief that satanists are murdering and raping children, eating babies and conducting abortions on women as a form of satanic sacrifice.

In fact a notorious anti-abortion activist, Wilfred Wong, was recently sentenced to 17 years in jail + 5 years on licence for conspiring to kidnap a child alongside various accomplices, including a psychotherapist who specialised in treating victims of satanic cults. Wong actually had a “kidnap kit” in his possession and used a knife to threaten the child’s terrified foster mother before tearing the child from her and bundling them into a waiting getaway car. Wong and his associates all suffered from a delusion that the child was being abused by a satanic cult and thus claimed that the kidnap was a rescue mission.

Wong is on record as claiming that abortions are actually satanic rituals. His fellow anti-abortion activists had form for confronting vulnerable women outside abortion clinics, whilst brandishing placards showing graphic photographs of abortions.

OP, I just wondered what your opinion is of Wong and his fellow kidnappers? I am extremely relieved that such a dangerous man is in jail where he belongs.

My opinion, for what it is worth, is that dangerous cults can arise very easily anywhere where there are power imbalances.

It is my understanding that there are many dangerous cults operating in the UK and in the world. Small cults evolve all the time and can be to do with religious / spiritual beliefs, personal development / psychotherapy, money / power, sexual proclivities and especially in any situation where there is competition for limited resources and where a small number of people have power / authority over others.

Many things about the OP concern me.

Anyone familiar with the Qanon / Pizzagate hoaxes and related SRA hoaxes will understand that hoaxes and conspiracy theories about satanic cults are widespread and problematic. These hoaxes have destroyed families, traumatised communities and lead to miscarriages of justice over the decades of the satanic panic and prior to that the blood libel has lead to countless murders and pogroms.

There have been many child abductions and kidnaps all over the world committed by deluded Qanon believers.

So, re the OP, in conclusion, the blurry photos do not really prove anything. Obviously. I think it is important that anyone discovering weird rituals involving blood and cutting reports such incidents to the police, not because “it might be satanists” but because regardless of spiritual belief, people being mutilated (whether as part of a ritual or not) may be evidence of criminal activity. This is for the police to investigate, if anything like this actually happened.

I recently saw a video of a controversial, hate inciting preacher, exchanging views with a man that her friend’s video channel called “a satanist”. He was in fact a Zoroastrian. Zoroastrians are often falsely accused of being satanists as are Yazidis.

The fact is that “satanist” is not uncommonly used as an othering / derogatory word to describe anyone whose religious beliefs are considered heretical by the accuser.

If anyone is interested in the history of the satanic panic in the UK there is a wonderful 1990s documentary here
Strange Days episode 3 - Catherine Bennett looks at the Psychotherapy, and Satanic Abuse.

For those with limited time this short clip is highly educational re the delusions and harmful activities of some therapists in the US

as is this

MushMonster · 17/10/2021 13:35

We do not know, but the police will be interested!
Please please report and send them the video.
Next time we know about this, one of yhem could have murdered an MP, or go around killing people, or kidnap more kids to bleed their arms!

hoodathunkit · 17/10/2021 13:37

This arcival video includes clips from training films for law enforcement re "satanic cults" and would be hilarious if the subject matter was not so serious and if the same bizarre beliefs were not being promoted widely today

I would suggest starting at 0:55 in, comedy gold

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 17/10/2021 13:38

Whoever they are, the leggings with dress and white trainers look is OVER, if were ever a thing.

Is it? Oh, shit, hell and damnation ...

Elphame · 17/10/2021 13:41

@CuteGirlsWatchMeEatEther

Wtf are you serious?

Why shouldn't she be? Blood rituals are not uncommon amongst witches.

Zilla1 · 17/10/2021 13:45

@hoodathunkit that might be one of the all time top 100 mullets, sorry if that is mullet-ist.

Itsnotallaboutyoubaby · 17/10/2021 13:46

Not sure OP but it does give me the heebie jeebies

TSSDNCOP · 17/10/2021 13:48

As a practising Wiccan I can assure you will NEVER summon Idris Elba with blood. Try some cigars and good quality single malt whisky.

That, right there, is the sound advice this Forum has been missing for months.

What's the word on George Clooney?

Not very Christian of you to respond like that. You should be accepting of others beliefs, even if they believe Christianity made up the devil.

I prefer Milton. The 'devil's party' is a lot more interesting.

The kids in the woods may have been participating in a ritual and practising the old ways but it's far more likely they've been watching too much Blair Witch Project, Most Haunted, Bottom (trick or treating with the cattle prod), or the Nights Who Say Ni. It's no coincidence they were spotted there in mid-October as opposed to, say, April.

Agree with @Elphame (love the name) that it's hardly a serious death threat - kids say these silly things to each other all the time - or a police matter.

Very interested in mysticism and Paganism, especially that surrounding some of the intellectual circles of the early 20th century (Yeats, Eliot, Woolf and others of that ilk were really into it). The neo-Pagan love of nature's wheel, the cycles of the sun and moon, everything being in balance and sensitivity to the elements I find fascinating and somehow calming.

DoofusRick · 17/10/2021 13:54

Own up, whose dh is this indulging in their very time-consuming “outing” hobby?

Who could I get for half a dozen B&H and the dregs of a bottle of Bells?

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 17/10/2021 13:56

It was probably the Bat Conservation Trust setting up some sound monitoring equipment.

Damn, hobby rumbled!

IAmTheLovechildOfYvesAndIsabel · 17/10/2021 13:56

@Zilla1 hmm you seem to be very well informed about ol' Idris, his admirable aspirations and difficulties with public transport - you're either his incredibly understanding and beautiful wife or the man, himself! 😁

urbanbuddha · 17/10/2021 13:58

There's no visible camera or sound in those photos so not film students.

TSSDNCOP · 17/10/2021 13:58

Blimey, can't even go to a quiet wood for a Sunday morning incantation without it turning up on a DM feeder MN thread anymore.

FreezerBird · 17/10/2021 13:59

@Shedbuilder

In an emergency like this, dial 666. That'll do the trick.

Not much blood to be seen in the pix. Very disappointed.

You know what you get if you dial 666? . . . . . ...an upside-down policeman.
girlmom21 · 17/10/2021 14:04

@WitchesInTheWoods

If the people were teens I’d be inclined to agree that it was some sort of film project but the lady and the man in black look middle aged. The ladies in normal clothes are younger, maybe early twenties.
I thought the one in the black on the left looked like a young woman, and the one in white with her back to us. Then the one on the right looks like a youngish male judged by the way they're standing.

But obviously you'll have a better idea as you've seen the full video.
