Following on from the ' have you met abs infamous criminal' thread. Has anyone met a celebrity (bonus points for really famous) and were they nice?

OP posts:

2 members of the same band (Guns n’ Roses) met separately and a few years apart.

Duff McKagan: Absolute top bloke. Chats as if he’s known you for years and is truly interested in people.

Axl Rose: I was a bit nervous of meeting him but he was lovely. No airs and graces, looks you right in the eye when he talks to you and gives you his full attention. Spoke to him for a few minutes and then got a bit overcome (star struck) and he patted my shoulder, real genuine smile and shook my hand.

I met James Morrison in 2019 and he was absolutely awesome! So friendly and down to earth. We had a nice chat and I had my photo with him. Would defo love to meet him again!

We met Barbara Windsor at a garden centre a few years ago. She told my son off for brushing against the geraniums in her basket (he was 6). Afterwards the cashier said "You have no idea who that was do you?" and we admitted we didn't!

I’ve met David guest he was really nice, he’d bumped into me on Oxford street as he wasn’t watching what he was doing, he apologised and then asked my opinion on something he was thinking about buying. We had a 5 min chat....
I’ve met Christopher Ellison (burnside from the bill) he’s come into my work many times, we’ve had a couple of chats, he’s really nice.
I’ve also met dev from Corrie, he was in Covent Garden out side a shop, started talking to us....
When I was pregnant with dd turns out whilst attending a checkup at the hospital we’d parked right outside patsy palmers house. When we returned she was outside talking to her friend and asked us how we were doing etc. I already knew she was nice because my Nan had been chatting with her in Clinton’s a couple of months before hand.

I met Austin Nichols at Walker stalker, he was so cool, so chill, we were actually talking about his films and such for ages. Whilst there I saw Andrew Lincoln in the stairwell and he asked us all how we were doing, were we enjoying ourselves and such. He got in trouble from his security for stopping 😂

Bebethany · 14/10/2021 19:17

Supergirl1958 were you part of Ceremonies staff? I was one of the medics, first at 3 Mills then at the Stadium, spent 9 months with Ceremonies staff all told. Happy memories 🌷

heathspeedwell · 14/10/2021 19:18

I met Rolf Harris and he seemed very kind, thoughtful and funny.

Goes to show that predatory men can be deceptively charming.

Enko · 14/10/2021 19:19

used to work for a cheese shop and met quite a few British celebs this way

John Cleese was a regular and always fabulous
Ruby wax nice and kind

Elton John always wanted to learn more about the cheeses so he was fun to serve.

No I was a gamesmaker. I was part of the event services team at the Olympic Stadium ❤️
BigBrightStarz · 14/10/2021 19:21

Also met John Bishop and Michael McIntyre whom were both lovely. I was more a fan of Michael McIntyre and he was just so sweet and down to earth and genuinely funny.

AdoptedBumpkin · 14/10/2021 19:21

@ScienceSensibility Funny, your descriptions are how I imagine them to be. Murray gets an unfair press IMO.

Justhavingacuppa · 14/10/2021 19:22

Mick Hucknall - creepy
Paul Weller - lovely
Benedict Cumberbatch - knob
Jodie Foster - shared a lift in a hotel. Friendly and very smiley.

Another one for Brendan Cole. It was at the height of his Strictly fame and he had just lost his Dad. I saw him on Oxford Street being approached by a group of teenage girls. He was really lovely and kind to them, despite obviously going through a v tough time himself. He seemed like a genuinely good bloke.

Two others worth mentioning are Jarvis Cocker and Bob Mortimer. Both quite shy, nice people.

I once spent 2 hours with him sitting on the sofa adjacent to mine in a hotel lounge whilst a woman tried her best to chat him up ( I think she may have been interviewing him-although no notes were being taken) . He was very polite but clearly not going there.

When they left an elderly couple emerged from another hidden sofa and we all had a very good laugh about it.

Auroreforet · 14/10/2021 19:26

@Monstermunch67. Many years ago a friend of mine had to use the London tube with her toddler in a buggy and a particularly tall staircase.
As she struggled and everyone ignored her Oliver Reed swooped in like superman, picked up the buggy and got friend safely to her platform.
She would never hear a bad word about him after that!

YoungGiftedPlump · 14/10/2021 19:27

@Auroreforet

Forgot to say. David Sedaris. Totally different experience of a book signing. He’s genuinely interested in people and so charming. There had been a stabbing in our town that day and he asked if I’d ever been stabbed.
We went to a BBC recording. In advance we were told that the would sign anything. People had bagfuls and spent ages with each person. It was in March 2019 and wasn't well at all. I hope he is recovered.
ReginaaPhalange · 14/10/2021 19:28

Gareth Gates in 2018 onboard p&o Britannia cruise ship - he was one of the show acts. He was tinyyyyy (as in skinny). My DH is a 30 waist and he looked big beside him. He was also botoxed and tangoed to the max. He done a quick picture and would hardly engage with anyone. I tried to show him a picture of me in front of him at his gig with will and Zoe from pop idol back in 2002 and he completely dismissed me! Charmer!

My DSD however played with his daughter in the kids club the same night and she said she was lovely and spoke 'very posh' lol

EspressoDoubleShot · 14/10/2021 19:29

A few at my dc school and nursery. Understated and pleasant

AdoptedBumpkin · 14/10/2021 19:29

Many years ago, my lovely but mad father in law spent much of a four course dinner explaining gravitational wave theory and Wagner to David Beckham.

This is not something I ever expected to read. Grin

silverbubbles · 14/10/2021 19:30

Liz Hurley - she was very polite and seemed perfectly normal....

PurpleFlower1983 · 14/10/2021 19:31

Angela Lansbury - she was lovely! Like chatting to my Nan!

Auroreforet · 14/10/2021 19:32

@YoungGiftedPlump
I think it was 2015 when I saw him.
I didn’t know he’d been unwell.
He is such a lovely man.

Benjispruce4 · 14/10/2021 19:33

Wayne Sleep- saw him in a corridor backstage at the Bournemouth International Centre. He was lovely and heard Dh and me laughing and said ‘What are you two up to?’
Chris Evans at Car Fest and he happily posed for a photograph with us all.

ElephantCup · 14/10/2021 19:34

@AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii

Aw I’ve never met anyone famous 😩

Very jealous of those who met Keith flint and Andrew llloyd Webber, phantom is my favourite!

Gerard butler was filming not far from me (an hour roughly) a few years ago and I regret not going to meet him, would have asked for a phantom serenade ❤️

Don’t be too sad about Gerard, my friend met him through her work. They were at an event to promote a product. She was stood with her team of all girls, and he walked over and said “which one of you is going to sleep with me then?” 🤮
BSideBaby · 14/10/2021 19:34

Ade Edmondson - Saw him on the A42 driving his mini and towing that little caravan. I gave him a nice wave and smile and he looked back at me with pure hatred. He must have been having a bad day, the miserable shit

My experience of him was very much the same and his wife was even worse.

ChateauxNeufDePoop · 14/10/2021 19:38

Working in the sports industry I've met a few current/retired sportsmen all really nice:

Ian Wright
Robbie Fowler
Lee Westwood
Ruud Gullitt
Ben Stokes
Wade Dooley
Jason Leonard
Sean Fitzpatrick

Also through work Jenni Falconer and Naga Munchetty. Can see why the latter can rub some people up the wrong way as she's very forthright but definitely intelligent and engaging.
