Following on from the ' have you met abs infamous criminal' thread. Has anyone met a celebrity (bonus points for really famous) and were they nice?

@Ihopeyourcakeisshit

I can't believe people actually say "Do you know who I am?"
I had someone say this to me once when we wouldn't let him come shop in a store that has just closed, to this day I have no idea who he was Grin

Amanda Holden - once taught one of her children - she was absolutely lovely.

MrsJackWhicher · 15/10/2021 20:25

@SickAndTiredAgain

Philip and Tina Green. Him, alright. Her, acts like she truly believes she's the most desirable woman on the planet.

I know “alright” isn’t exactly glowing praise, but I find it hard to believe he is anything other than awful.

Ironic she thinks that given he allegedly gropes anything female!
MrsJackWhicher · 15/10/2021 20:27

@PolytheneRam

Craig Charles had a swig from my hip flask
Oooh, I’d totally take a swig from his Grin

#summerorautumn Lewis Collins my first crush 😍

I'm amazed that people think they can make any judgement on an individual's character after 1chance encounter.

Those who have taught celebrities' children, or served them on many occasions, for example, might have enough experience of their behaviour to come to some kind of valid opinion.

But if you met someone once, then I don't think we can take your views as being of any value at all. After all, how many of us would survive such an assessment? Never had a bad day?

DrEllie · 15/10/2021 21:26

#earsup interesting because I met her in Birmingham and she was lovely

well she did say she had a bad cold but still had to go on stage but even so ... no need to be so rude to me....

Bruce Dickinson gave me a lift from the station to the gig in his car, lovely guy. Christopher Lee was really charming when I chanced upon him on his hands & knees behind the counter at the record store where I used to work. Noel Gallagher had time for everyone.

MissAmbrosia · 15/10/2021 23:45

I've met quite a few, fleetingly, mainly through work functions, and memorably I "lived" in the Four Seasons in Dublin in the week for several months whilst on a work secondment and it was a daily game to see who had met someone in the bar after work. I missed Nelson Mandela, but Bono, Colin Farrell, Boyzone etc were all in. Plus flying first class with Aer Lingus there was often a golfer or boyband member. Top memory was meeting Donny Osmond though whilst I was working in a record shop in the summer holidays as a teenager. He was very lovely.

Grabbing your phone and soothingly reassuring them that you'll call the hospital and quickly get them the help they need for their confusion usually does the trick Grin

AdoptedBumpkin · 16/10/2021 00:23

my only bad experience... David Dickinson 😂 absolute diva & more orange in real life!

My friend saw Real Deal being filmed some time ago and said he was amazingly orange. Grin However, she didn't meet him as such so no story to tell I'm afraid.

starlight13 · 16/10/2021 01:11

Yes.
Rude and horrible ones: Princess Anne, Paul Hollywood and Vic Reeves.
Lovely, friendly and respectful ones: Paul O'Grady, Tony Blair, Julian Clary, David Jason.

sashh · 16/10/2021 07:27

I worked in a private hospital for a couple of years.

This means that I met a few celebrities, most of whom were lovely and due to patient confidentiality I can't name.

But, even the odd dick, I think gets a pass if you are in hospital, you are at least worried, possibly in pain and have the right to be a dick.

Grin I came across a similar response once, where the celeb was in a supermarket, and uttered the immortal "do you know who I am" line and the cashier made an announcement that they had a very confused person with them who couldn't remember who they were and could anyone help.

Honestly cannot understand the mindset of someone who thinks they are entitled to privileges over and above everyone else just because they happen to be "well known" (or not) Hmm

@Nordstrom

Quite a few (did a lot of tv/film extra work).

But I can confirm that the the genuinely loveliest most humble celebrity I have ever met is Simon Reeve.

I absolutely love his programmes - I have learned so much about the places he has travelled to, and he just seems so genuine and caring about the people he meets. I am pleased to have my impressions confirmed by you having met him. Thank you for sharing!!

Lewis Collins was and remains my first crush just so handsome

Gwrach · 16/10/2021 22:09

Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas. Lovely people, really enjoyed their company.

Michael Sheen, had me in tears of laughter, he was funny and welcoming and really nice.

Anthony Hopkins a true gentleman and lovely.

You can probably guess my nationality 😂

Hen2018 · 16/10/2021 22:31

Robert Plant. He lives just up the road from me so I see him in Sainsbury’s all the time. We had a chat once about the cash machines being broken.

He also runs a record company from the college my oldest used to go to, so I’ve seen him there too.

He used to pop into where I worked.

And he once stepped out in front of my car. I did an emergency stop but he still ended up sprawled across the bonnet!

He seems pleasant.

I saw Catherine Zeta Jones in New York after seeing her in A Little Night Music, I remember thinking how stunningly beautiful she was, even more so in real life.

Thank you for giving me a much-needed laugh with that picture, after an exhausting day!

I've seen, meet and or served many celebs. but have never asked for an autograph or a photo. I don't think you can judge someone in these circumstances. I can see that anyone could feel a bit feed up having been asked yet again for a selfie or called their stage name, sure would piss me off.
The mention of Lewis Collins reminded of an 'encounter' I had with him in his hay-day. I was out with a group of girl friends for a meal and he was seated at the other side of the restaurant with a woman. He kept looking across at our table all the time, which I thought was very rude to his guest. At one point I got up to go to the loo and he got up too. When I came out of the Ladies he was waiting for me leaning on the wall outside the gents. He looked me up and down and made some compliment to which I said thanks and walk on. He pressed something into my hand, it was his was his contact details!
He wasn't my type, anyway his actions all night would have put me off.

me109f · 17/10/2021 03:02

I was waiting around in a gym hall in London in the 80's and there was an actor called Nicholas Smith (who was in 'Are you Being Served'). We sat and chatted on the stairs for half an hour or more. He was great company like many performers, telling inside stories about the acting profession and being very friendly.
I once chatted to George Melly at university where he was appearing with the Foot Tappers in 1974. He was very drunk; he was pissed when he came on stage, very late, but gave a brilliant jazz performance. Later in the bar we chatted a little but he was well drunk and quite surly. I did not see him again until he performed locally in 2010 and was excellent, and in a wheelchair, bless him. He seemed to be necking from a bottle of whisky. He died soom after.
