Following on from the ' have you met abs infamous criminal' thread. Has anyone met a celebrity (bonus points for really famous) and were they nice?

OP posts:

Used to work in broadcasting. I found that the celebrities were usually nice but the people working for them could be vile. The PR of a famous author literally kept stabbing me in my back with her pen because she wanted me to wind up the interview between her author and my presenter The agreed time was 20 minutes and she started stabbing me ten minutes in and kept on until it was finished. I was determined that we would get the full time we had agreed and just gritted my teeth and then let her have it when we had finished

Elizabeth Hurley - Back in days where she modelled her own swimwear. She was lovely, really friendly. Her then husband Arun was with her too. Both really nice and chatty
Billy Ocean - We chatted about music, travel, food! Lovely man , very charming.
Elton John - very briefly. We attended an AIDS benefit concert ( as paying ticket holders) he was there in the audience. Afterwards he was leaving his seat and my husband politely asked for a picture. His assistant tried to usher him away but he said ‘ of course, my pleasure’ We took a few snaps and had a very brief exchange of words.
The worst and rudest by far, Michael Crawford. He was miserable, rude and couldn’t get away quick enough!

Vinnie Jones, great man when he wasn't busy he always sat with the kids chatting. So Down to earth.

Scbchl · 14/10/2021 22:19

Amy Childs was staying in our hotel this summer with her friend and two children. She was lovely, so so nice.

Vin Diesel at the Mtv awards in Princes garden he was really nice and friendly and shook everyone's hands and gave out autographs and kissed cheeks.

Guy who played Les Battersby in the airport in Palma when I was 17. He was sat drinkng alone and told me to fuck off when I said alright Les.

The guy who played Gary in Eastenders stayed in the same hotel in Lanzarote. He took part in all the entertainment games and did quite a bit of Karaoke and was a great singer.

Olly Murs was staying in Cameron House when we were there. He was in the gym when we were but we didn't meet him but he was smiling and saying hi to everyone.

Prince Charles and Princess Anne, separately. The former was very kind and charming and very personable, didn't seem to really enjoy the whole bowing and curtsying guff. The latter has a very dry sense of humour and was lovely as well

Alwaystheplusone · 14/10/2021 22:24

Helen McCrory - lovely, chatty, funny and down to earth
Tamzin Outhwaite - warm, friendly and kind
Dominic Cooper - charming, good fun, pretty normal
Paul O’Grady - cold, stand-offish, not interested unless you’re famous

Scottsy100 · 14/10/2021 22:27

I worked in the ticket office of a local football club giving out VIP’s and was so excited that I’d get to meet Bobby Robson, he came in looked at me like I was a piece of shit on his shoe and left, I was gutted

custardbear · 14/10/2021 22:34

@ladygindiva

I met Bill Hicks the late American comedian once. We chatted for a bit and he was absolutely lovely, a real gentleman.
Hi comedy makes me hoot! Shame he died so young, big loss 🥺
VetOnCall · 14/10/2021 22:35

Sir David Attenborough - absolutely as wonderful, interesting, engaging and polite as you'd expect.
Professor Noel Fitzpatrick - less said the better.
Gary Lightbody (Snow Patrol singer) - really lovely, down to earth, intelligent.
Jimmy Nesbitt - met a few times, he's OK, a bit up himself, comes across like he thinks that everyone fancies him.
Princess Anne - very polite, very nice but formal as you'd expect. She loves dogs though, there were some present at the time and she spoke to and asked about all of them!
Bill Bryson - just briefly at a book signing but he was fab, I love him.
Ben Fogle - completely lovely, charming, down to earth, friendly, interesting and absolutely adores dogs.

I treated a handful of patients who had well-known owners when I lived/worked in the Home Counties for a few years. The owners were all very nice and all clearly loved their pets. They were all respectful of our professional opinions and just like any other client. Animals are a great leveller!

Gilly12345 · 14/10/2021 22:39

Not surprised people say JK Rowling is lovely, she grew up close to where we live and people speak well of her, she also was Headgirl at my Children’s school.

Ringsender2 · 14/10/2021 22:40

RovenderKitt · 14/10/2021 22:44

Dean Holdsworth, totally lovely, had my photo taken with him and got the impression nothing was too much trouble.

Paul Daniels, after a show in the 70s at the stage door, had a chat, the only thing I can remember is he called me a ‘sprout’.

Ran almost headlong into Boris Becker outside the toilets at a U2 gig, smiled at each other and carried on running out separate ways as we were missing the concert!

marktayloruk · 14/10/2021 22:55

Had a friend who knew Winner and loathed him Have met a few - no superstars but have met my teenage idol John Conteh and crush Valerie Leon Both delightful!

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 14/10/2021 22:57

Maddy Prior - at a concert about 10 years ago - she was lovely and signed my ticket. DH and I are longtime fans.

kissmelittleass · 14/10/2021 22:58

halulat · 14/10/2021 22:59

Robbie Williams- chatted with him as we were checking out after our wedding night with dress over my arm. He was really nice. Friendly and down to earth. ( late 90s)
Lloyd Cole- he gatecrashed a uni ball in the hotel where he was staying after a gig. Seemed arrogant . I was so disappointed.( early 90s)
Sir Kenny Dalglish- ( sat behind him on a flight from Amsterdam a few years ago) seemed shy but nice
Nathan ( from Brother Beyond) at a retro music festival- funny and flirty with my friend.
Keir Starmmer- at 'Any Questions' recording. He came across as really warm and caring.
Andy Bell, Erasure, served him in Boots where I worked as a student( in the late 80s) . He was lovely.
Kenn Dodd- round the corner from my house.I was five and he was posting sausages into a postbox. I thought he was nuts!! ( I'm guessing he was being filmed at the time).
Hadn't realised I'd met so many famous people!!

crummyusername · 14/10/2021 23:02

Bob Geldof, really cocky and thought he was the saviour of the world

zazas · 14/10/2021 23:02

I was USA based for a few years (in the nineties), living in a town that the rich and famous gravitated to. Met many…
Pierce Brosnan (lovely, hang out with us for two nights)
Jack Nicholson (funny)
Julia Roberts (stunning)
Cher (quiet)
Sean Connery (charming)
Melanie Griffith (questionable behaviour wasn’t her best period is all I’ll say)
Don Johnson (just before they broke up so not that happy)
Goldie Hawn
Lee Majors (did the bionic thing for us!)
John F Kennedy junior (so lovely but just before he died)
Barbara Streisand (very secretive, didn’t want anyone to see her)
Steven Spielberg (on a date he wasn’t meant to be on!)
Sylvester Stallone (huge entourage with him always)
Macaulay Culkin (super cute)
Joe Crocker (stayed at his house)
Faye Dunaway (lovely even though I gave her a great big hello like a friend before I realised I didn’t actually know her just ’knew’ her face!
Plus many many many more…
The worse though…
Donald Trump, I even have a picture with him still somewhere!
Now my job brings me in contact with a lot of famous people in a specific area, most are lovely, really are although one (who I can’t name) is not really the lovely smiley person, people love on TV, oh no he isn’t!

Spuriously17windows · 14/10/2021 23:15

John Hurt stayed in our apartment building for several weeks in the 90s. Would run into him on the lift every few days - always pleasant and a cheery hello.

Van Morrison at a hotel in Cardiff, he was checking in at the same time and my friend got him to sign his passport - he laughed and said I think that’s illegal. Later that night I had a drink at a bar with Bob Dylan (we were in Cardiff to see Bob Dylan in concert and VM was there for the same reason). The most bizarre 5 minutes of my life so far.

XenoBitch · 14/10/2021 23:16

Jon Pertwee at a convention. I was a nervous teen. Approached his table for an autograph and he barked "speak up, girl!" at me. Walked away thinking he was a right c*nt.

earsup · 14/10/2021 23:22

Also met Val Lehman...cell block H..bea smith...in a theatre in eastbourne...my friend arranged for me to meet her and do an interview...she was very rude and foul mood....only one pic allowed and she forced a smile and stated that she would answer no questions about cell block H...only the serious acting she now did...after about 10 mins she snapped...enough now and banged the door on me...!!

Clearthinking · 14/10/2021 23:26

Madge from neighbours was in my chair at my desk when i worked at Debenhams. Nice enough, that raspy voice was very real

Eggsdancing · 14/10/2021 23:34

Kate Beckinsale seemed nice but I was so starstruck i could only say a few words, seemed surreal.

Colm Farell-shook his hand.

Sharon Corr-absolutely lovely and friendly, with no notions of herself.

Jonathan Bailey from Bridgerton-lovely guy.

YearsSinceISawYou · 14/10/2021 23:36

@Bunglemom

Paula Radcliffe was on a flight of mine (Ex Cabin Crew) with her husband/manager just after she had broken her leg... absolutely vile! He gave us a list of do's and dont's, one of them was to only talk to him not to address Paula, if she needed the toilet it was to be cleaned first with no one waiting behind her, no photos etc!

Lamar off Pop Idol (I think) was a rude and arrogant twat... uttering the words 'do you know who i am?!' my reply was quite curt and said yes but that tea is still £3.50 😂

Nicest were a few politicians surprisingly!

Surprised about Paula Radcliffe being so particular about a loo when she will forever be associated with shitting in the street in 2005. It was even referred to in an episode of, 'The Thick of it'.
