Following on from the ' have you met abs infamous criminal' thread. Has anyone met a celebrity (bonus points for really famous) and were they nice?

I sold Easter eggs to Princess Diana in 1988 (during my holiday job at Harrods). She was lovely, and so sweet about her boys. She took ages looking, and eventually chose very cute novelty handmade eggs.

Loads…

Bobby Moore - delightful
Jason Donovan - truly lovely
Tim Rice - held the lift for me

many more because I actually worked for someone who is now considered a celeb himself and they were the circles he moved in……

There is only one celeb I’ve met who I wouldn’t consider to have been nice.. he’s dead now so I won’t name names……

skybluee · 14/10/2021 21:34

Paula Radcliffe who was not very nice at all.

Unlike Kelly Holmes who is absolutely lovely.

stuck at manchester airport in the 90's in the first class lounge..suddenly invaded by a lot of Coronation St members who stole a lot of booze off the mini bar even tho they werent flying first class...eventually asked to leave....awful grabbers...mostly the women.

I’ve met quite a few now that I’m thinking about it but, Cameron Diaz stands out for me. She was dressed very plainly with little make-up but was just absolutely stunning. She was really very lovely too. Very sweet and friendly. Just a natural beauty inside and out.
Kristen Stewart had something about her too. You could see how they’d both transcended to stardom I guess is the only way to put it!

Context: I was working at a cafe, so this is how they were towards staff

  • Bruce Dickinson (Iron Maiden) in his pilot uniform, so warm and polite
  • Joe Hart, polite
  • John Bishop, quieter and more reserved than I expected of a comedian (but it must be tiring, I suppose)
  • Richard Dawkins, no issues but had a very odd expression on his face (I feel like perhaps he expected to be recognised... Probably wrong, though!)
  • Several soap stars, none of whom I personally knew as I didn’t grow up in UK, who all gave off a very confident air of knowing everyone recognised them and being quite used to it. Not in a bad way, just confident and cheerfully blasé despite everyone squealing at them.

When I was young I saw Harrison Ford in FAO Schwarz NYC. Understandably, given the shop, he looked harassed and stressed out. Also played water volleyball with the then-Chelsea football team - we were just a bunch of little kids and it was their own time so I think that was pretty lovely of them.

@AleynEivlys

JK Rowling, Cheltenham Literature Festival, 1998.

I was ten, and she was my hero. Potter was popular, but hadn't yet taken off in the way it would soon after; at that point, she had only released the first two books. There were about 150 seats in the room, I believe, and not all of them were full. Quite ridiculous now, when you think about what was to come!

I think more than a few people here will be pleased (but not surprised) to hear that she was wonderful. She read us the passage from Chamber of Secrets where Harry meets Dobby, complete with voices. Then she answered questions. I asked what the next book would be called and she said it was Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

Finally, she spent ages signing books with lovely personalised messages while everyone queued up for their turn. When my very confident friend piped up that I had handed my battered copy of Philosopher's Stone round the school so extensively that it had fallen apart, she signed my books as you will see in the pictures.

That meant the world to me at 10 and still does.

I genuinely love this Smile
Mushypeasandchipstogo · 14/10/2021 21:41

Chris Evans, Tom Kerridge and Russell Brand with his wife- all were absolutely lovely!

TatianaBis · 14/10/2021 21:42

George Clooney, years ago. 100% tanned playboy. I didn’t recognise him at first and the only reason I did was because he acted famous.

Shesoffbakeoff · 14/10/2021 21:43

Holly W-scary-intimidating & bitchy

Davina McCall-so so lovely, friendly & down to earth

Jack duckworth- waved at me when I was on a bus school trip at Granada studios as a kid

Dnaltocs · 14/10/2021 21:48

•The Holy Father Pope John Paul 11 - wonderfully patient.
•Holy Father Pope Francis - charismatic and welcoming.
•Prince Charles and Camilla both lovely not standoffish just very pleasant.
•Billy Connolly lovely and patient with young fans particularly those with a disability.
•The Queen and her handbag - polite.
•Teresa May good listener, beautifully dressed.
•Yoko Ono rude and full of herself not pleasant.
•My Mummy - famous in our home. Best of the best.

I had forgotten I’d met so many ‘till I started writing.

JinglingHellsBells · 14/10/2021 21:48

Judi Dench many years ago.

Vargas · 14/10/2021 21:49

Noel Fielding - he's a sweetheart, very funny.

Shook Princess Di's hand when I was about 12 - she was sweet and very tall and beautiful.

Practicebeingpatient · 14/10/2021 21:52

All these people saying celebrities are tiny - everyone mentioned so far is taller than me and at 5ft 1in I'm only 3 inches below the U.K. average. Mumsnetters must be a tall bunch

Buttons294749 · 14/10/2021 21:52

Tom Parker Bowles. He was on a cooking show and I was a random person testing cake (not his) he was lovely!

aguhiyori · 14/10/2021 21:53

Humphrey Lyttleton. He and his jazz band played at my college ball one year! I got a selfie with him (in the days of ye olde film cameras) which I've lost :-(

Years later, got invited to a charity dinner for the Prince's Trust by a friend who had a spare ticket. Most surreal night out of my life. Met Damian Lewis (extremely tall, quite guarded, seemed suspicious of everyone), Helen McCrory (polite though very quiet), Benedict Cumberbatch (absolutely lovely, spent ages talking to my friend about her experience teaching in an inner-city school, weirdly limp handshake though) and Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden (surprisingly short, friendly enough but a bit bemused as to why he was there) all on the same evening. Bill Clinton was the guest speaker (!) but couldn't get near him sadly.

Buttons294749 · 14/10/2021 21:54

And David gest was once friendly to me in Natwest

Recycledblonde · 14/10/2021 21:55

George Clooney, very much ‘don’t you know who I am’ wanted extra special treatment.
Queen Mum, absolutely lovely, offered me a seat because I was carrying my new born and she was sure they must be heavy.

pteradactyl · 14/10/2021 21:55

@OnTheNatureOfDaylight oh I absolutely love Pink. I have a bit of a girl crush on her tbh ☺ and think she seems like a really nice person so its nice that she is like that irl too

ivfbabymomma1 · 14/10/2021 21:58

I used to work at a hotel which saw a few famous people in come & go. The ones I can remember:

  • Radiohead - nice guys very chilled
  • Gordon Ramsey - insanely nice
  • lady gaga - by far my favourite you wouldn't have guessed she was famous she was so so friendly and down to earth
  • Richard Hammond - only spoke for a few minutes seemed nice

.... my only bad experience... David Dickinson 😂 absolute diva & more orange in real life!

Has anyone met Leonardo dicaprio or Zac efron? (I promise I'm not a teenage girl)

opoponax · 14/10/2021 21:59

James Blunt on a long haul flight to LA. I was put next to him and there was a mix-up with seats and my ten year old daughter ended up having her seat quite far from me on the other side of the plane. She felt a bit self-conscious and came over to whisper to me about what meal she should get etc.He must have overheard and readily offered to swap seats with her. I didn't notice who he was and just said she would be fine but thank you so much. He insisted saying that a seat was a seat to him, stood up and grabbed his bag and asked her to show him her seat. He even got her hand luggage down for her. Really lovely and friendly and down to earth.

ClaireEclair · 14/10/2021 22:03

Years ago I was in a pub in Camden (I think the Hawley Arms) comforting a young girl who was in tears as she thought her acne made her look ugly (not true of course). Noel Fielding suddenly appeared from another loo and asked the girl what was wrong. He then told her a story about once having impetigo on his face and people still wanted to kiss him. He was so sweet to her. Then one of his mates came in and told him they were leaving the pub. The girl had no idea who he was but he cheered her up.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 14/10/2021 22:08

Duchess of Cambridge, on a beach in Norfolk with George and Charlotte (pre Louis days)

Really lovely, utterly "normal" and very clued up on local issues - also tried to pay for the ice cream I bought the kids (I refused of course Grin)

Moonwatcher1234 · 14/10/2021 22:12

Adwoah aboah- the model. At an airport lounge…she was in first class and going through security. As we had young kids, we got priority for security and ended up going through with her and her group. She wasn’t as striking looking as she is on camera and was a bit cool and aloof. However, she played with my kids as we collected our stuff and admired the baby so all is forgiven!
