Anyone else had this horrid (none covid) fluey virus?

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 06/10/2021 18:17

Had 3pcrs in 10days, all neg.
Double jabbed since April.
Flu jab 2weeks ago.

Last night I woke shivering quite violently with a temp. After ibruprofen it stopped and I just had a temp. Managed to get to work and I've ached horrendously all day.

Back home now and I feel rough AF.

Anyone else had this grim lurgy? Xx

Yes DS has it at the moment and it’s been 2 weeks and counting. He had 1 day off school at the beginning as he was coughing so much it was making him retch. Then on Sunday night his temperature shot up to 39.4, he was dizzy, uncontrollably shivering for about 2 hours and has had loads of nose bleeds. He’s been off school for 3 days this week and I doubt he’ll be in again this week as he can’t stop coughing, very sore throat and is exhausted. All tests were negative.

5weeks?!

Yep 13 year old son has had it almost 3 weeks now, 2 neg covid tests, hacking cough, blocked nose, heavy breathing and breathlessness going upstairs. He even took himself off to bed at 8pm the other night. Been to the drs today as he's asthmatic and it's just not getting better, he's had 6 days off school so far in almost 3 weeks waiting on pcr tests and was sent home one day cos he couldn't stop coughing and had a bad headache. The dr said if his asthma meds don't start helping more in the next couple of days he will probably have to have a short dose of steroids. My toddler just got rid of it, we were 4 days snot free...until last night! Hes been coughing and sneezing again all day, woke himself coughing at 5.40am and was sobbing with it. I'm seriously considering hibernating until spring at this rate!

Oh and I've just had antibiotics and steroids for a chest infection myself!

thecatneuterer · 06/10/2021 18:51

Yes it was dreadful. I was ill for 3 weeks (same as when I had Covid, except I think I felt less ill with Covid after the first ten days). I got over it around two weeks ago.

Iheartwhitetshirts · 06/10/2021 19:06

Had it for the past ten days. Cough, fever, aching sinuses, fatigue, sore throat and absolutely no sense of taste or smell. Negative PCRs and lateral flow tests. Feel so unwell and just want to feel well again!

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 06/10/2021 19:17

It must be our immune systems unable to do their jobs so much too.

I get a cold 1-2 times a year, didn't get one last year but this is something else. I pretty much crawled into the bathroom this morning xx

Yep, just given up and come to bed now. Dd & DH had it first, mine started Saturday, negative PCR yesterday but I was pretty sure not COVID anyway. I have my COVID booster tomorrow 🙄, just achy, streaming cold and hacking cough. Constant drinks and paracetamol.

Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 06/10/2021 19:43

I had similar and also negative pcr. DH also had it. DD not.

Phyllis321 · 06/10/2021 19:48

Yep. Was convinced I had COVID.

SmintyHinty · 06/10/2021 20:07

God this is like de ja Vu to a thread in November 2019 that said almost EXACTLY the same thing except... ".. And weirdly I've lost my sense of taste and smell". And we all know how that turned out.
I've got this too I think (awaiting my PCR test but lateral flow all negative).

Hardybloodyhar · 06/10/2021 20:08

Are they doing influenza tests? I've wondered if the much ballyhooed disappearance of the flu is caused by a lack of tests.

santabetterwashhishands · 06/10/2021 20:13

My little girl has it,I was convinced it was covid with her barking cough but negative prc

WeepySheepy · 06/10/2021 20:18

I was so surprised when the PCR came back negative. It's unlike any cold I've ever had. I need #NotCovid printed on a hat or something for when I manage to go back to work.

Autumngoldleaf · 06/10/2021 21:50

Does anyone think this maybe a new mutation?

MalfunctioningRobot · 06/10/2021 21:54

Yep, I’m into week 2 of it. Started with a sore throat, then cold symptoms, now I’ve got what feels like mucus gathering on my chest, keeps blocking the back of my throat.

I’ve had a week of cold and flu tablets, and a week of mucus relief sudafed tablets, nothing is really helping. Done COVID tests, all been negative.

Hope you’re feeling better soon Flowers

WeepySheepy · 06/10/2021 21:54

They look out for them on the PCRs tho? Maybe it's COVlD-21.

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 06/10/2021 21:55

No not a new mutation, I think we are not as immune to infections as we have stayed inside etc for nearly 18months of lock downs. Especially kids not mixing with others xx

OP posts:
alloalloallo · 06/10/2021 21:56

I had what I thought was the cold from hell a few weeks ago but I seem to have caught it again from DH

We’ve all had numerous negative LFT tests and negative PCR tests (I took 2 tests when I had it last time and both negative). I’m tired, I ache, banging headache, cough and a horrible sore throat, it’s been about 5 days now.

DD1 (away at Uni) has got it too and she said it’s about a billion times worse than when she had Covid

Iggly · 06/10/2021 21:58

@Bookridden

Yes! 2 negative pcr tests, but feverish, coughs and aches and pains. Fatigue +++. Strangely, we haven't had the runny nose you get with a cold. So much like Covid, lateral flow tests were positive, but pcrs said no. Weird virus.
If the lateral flows were positive then it’s most likely covid. Another thread somewhere said that this was a issue in and the PHE were investing whether there was a problem with a batch of PCRs not picking up positives.

How do you know it’s not a new mutation? There are new strains kicking about.
Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 06/10/2021 22:01

I don't know, maybe? maybe not I've gone nearly 2 years without a cold or flu etc and now I'm floored with what I'm hoping is a cold. Xx

OP posts:
HowMuchWine · 06/10/2021 22:03

Yep. It's shit.

So many parents of the kids at the school I work at are sending in seriously snot filled , coughing -their - guts up children to school.

Keep them off!!!!!

Iggly · 06/10/2021 22:04

I’ve had a similar cold too although to be fair I have had previous colds which have made me feel crap. I’ve just forgotten what it’s like!
Didiusfalco · 06/10/2021 22:07

I think there’s something very strange. My dh is absolutely floored by this. Negative LFTs, but it looks just like covid. I keep hearing of people who are generally very well unable to get out of bed, but no covid. I don’t think it’s just because we’ve forgotten what colds feel like.
