Those of you with husbands aged 55+, are they grumpy old men?

Just that really, obviously a big generalisation I know, but this seems very common among people I know, when they get to this age it’s as if a switch is flicked and they turn into grumpy moaners.

Yes, try and get them to have a hobby otherwise they might choose a younger model.

MackenCheese · 04/10/2021 20:49

Yes, but do we put up with it? We can't MAKE them take up a hobby!

BrilloPaddy · 04/10/2021 20:50

Yep. He was 58 this year.

He's like Basil Fawlty on steroids.

Hmm
mydogisthebest · 04/10/2021 20:50

No, my DH is 64 and he is not grumpy. I am far more grumpy that he is

A very patient one who can put up with listening to said moaning?

Yes

freshcarnation · 04/10/2021 20:51

No.

GrandmasCat · 04/10/2021 20:52

Not really, blame the perimenopause but when it comes to being grumpy… I’m winning. Blush

PlanDeRaccordement · 04/10/2021 20:53

Mine isn’t grumpy, but then he gets regular naps on the weekend and has a hobby.

CosmicComfort · 04/10/2021 20:53

LOL, yes, absolutely. Lovable but grumpy Victor Meldrew character a lot of the time. Never used to be so grumpy, definitely worsening as he gets older.

He retires next year….I might split my time between the DS’s university accommodation by then🤣🤣

thequeenofsandwich · 04/10/2021 20:55

My Lovely old boy is 60 next year and has very much mellowed with the passing years

notacooldad · 04/10/2021 20:57

No. Dh is pushing 60 and there isn't a day that passes that he doesn't make me laugh!
Hes not grumpy at all.

Intercity225 · 04/10/2021 21:01

Yes, I call him "Britain's grumpiest commuter!", because pre-Covid, he did nothing but complain about anything and everything on the commute to work! At one time, he had the mobile number of the complaints manager for the train line, because he had made so many complaints, they let him make his complaints direct! To be honest, we suspected that when there was a delay, they had a set of 6 buttons, which played an excuse over the announcements and they just selected one at random! Another thing that annoyed us, was when the train was running late on the way home, they just whizzed past our station, without stopping to make up the time!

Craftycorvid · 04/10/2021 21:03

Yup, very grumpy but that’s his personality rather than being 55plus.

NiceTwin · 04/10/2021 21:04

No, mine is 60 next year and we still laugh uncontrollably at/with each other often.

RoyKentsHairyBack · 04/10/2021 21:04

Dh is but a youth at 52. I think he is getting less tolerant of usual normal life and more dogmatic than he used to be.

We often ask if he's being nice dad or grumpy dad and regularly mock grumpy dad.

CrotchetyQuaver · 04/10/2021 21:06

Mines 67 and can be grumpy, I think mainly because he's tired and in pain (old bones). We have been on holiday since Friday and he's been a sweetheart, not a single grump so far. He's not tired and not overdoing it physically so I do think it must be tiredness/pain related.

waybill · 04/10/2021 21:06

Yes, but them I'm a grumpy old woman, so we moan together.

GoodnightGrandma · 04/10/2021 21:06

He’s not grumpy but he’s lazy. He’s retired so doesn’t get up until 10.30 every day, later at the weekend. He might go out somewhere in the afternoon but he’s back and sat on the couch with his feet up by 3pm.
He wants to go on holiday to lie on a sun bed and relax - why when he does nothing here anyway !

Coffeeonmytoffee · 04/10/2021 21:07

My DP is 40 and I swear it’s like living with the grumpiest man alive. It’s coincided with a complete narrowing of his food choices as well, which I find hard. He basically just wants to eat meat and potatoes.

TheCaddieisaBaddie · 04/10/2021 21:09

Fuck yes, he is 56, has to have naps, moans about everything and has no patience at all, but he still makes me laugh.

DeeCeeCherry · 04/10/2021 21:17

No.

DP is 66, in good health and fit, we still have a sex life and social life. We love and respect each other, no grumpiness around here.

All 3 of my brothers are in their 50s, grumpy isn't their default either come to think of it. Generalisations tend to be wrong anyway.

Claudethecat · 04/10/2021 21:19

Yep. O just breezily ignore it now (mostly). I think it is linked to a lowering of testosterone? I may have that wrong.
