Those of you with husbands aged 55+, are they grumpy old men?

Just that really, obviously a big generalisation I know, but this seems very common among people I know, when they get to this age it’s as if a switch is flicked and they turn into grumpy moaners.

Yup. Although he's peaked a bit too soon at 53. He's got the hat too.

Guineapigbridge · 04/10/2021 21:23

Yes, grumpy as fuck
Not nearly as grumpy as me though :)

PermanentTemporary · 04/10/2021 21:25

No, but we've only been together 10 months. Never a grump at the mo. Our first weekend away this weekend so maybe he'll let the GOM put of the bag?

AAAY · 04/10/2021 21:25

My husband is only 39 and already a grumpy old man I dread. To think what he'll be like when he's over 55

SunShinesBrightly · 04/10/2021 21:27

Yes. He has got steadily more miserable and grumpy since the age of 40. He is now 55 and a proper PITA.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 04/10/2021 21:28

@BrilloPaddy

Yep. He was 58 this year.

He's like Basil Fawlty on steroids.

Hmm

Grin thats a great discription of my 59 year old Dh too. His sense of humour and messing about has increased. I'm still working and he does all the washing/cleaning I cook occasionally. We said we'll fight over the chores once I retire. I suggest an arm wrestling match. He's 6 feet I'm 5 feet. I bet I can take him.
Saisong · 04/10/2021 21:31

Oh God yes. He's 56 and a moany old fucker, good job I still love him really. I do have to pull him up when he's really down on the kids - sometimes he struggles to grasp they are young teens still - being thoughtless is their thing!

Yes.

If anything, my DH is more laid back than he was 10 years ago.

foxywheaton75 · 04/10/2021 21:42

Yes most definitely.
Can literally moan for England.
He's retiring next year, I'm gonna increase my hours to full time.

AuntieMarys · 04/10/2021 21:42

Not at all! He's 62 and incredibly cheerful, funny and great company. Mind you I'm much nicer than wife #1 😀

tiredanddangerous · 04/10/2021 21:44

Mines already a grumpy old man and he's only 40. I dread to think what he'll be like by 50.

Holothane · 04/10/2021 21:45

Mine isn’t even 49 yet the years ahead are going to be tough he’s always been grumpy but he’s just worse now.

doodleygirl · 04/10/2021 21:46

Nope, mine is 56, im so much grumpier than him Grin he genuinely is the least grumpiest person you could meet

RampantIvy · 04/10/2021 21:47

@MackenCheese

Yes, but do we put up with it? We can't MAKE them take up a hobby!
You have just described DH Grin He has so few interests, doesn't like doing anything other than going for a walk or going to the pub. He won't even come to see the Bond film with me, so I am going on my own.
bloodywhitecat · 04/10/2021 21:47

I often call home Victor but no, he is lovely not grumpy.

Guineapigbridge · 04/10/2021 21:47

Grumpiness definitely inversely proportional to amount of sex had ...

bloodywhitecat · 04/10/2021 21:48

... call him Victor...

Themsmedaps · 04/10/2021 21:51

Yep - he hit 50, aged 20 years overnight and turned into his dad. Quite happy sitting on his arse all day moaning about everyone and everything.

JaninaDuszejko · 04/10/2021 21:52

DH at 50 seems to be turning into FIL Shock, he's getting pompous and grumpy. He was so lovely and easy going in his youth. My Dad was lovely and easy going his entire life so this is a shock to me.

Silvercatowner · 04/10/2021 21:53

No. I'm far grumpier than he is.

ineedsun · 04/10/2021 21:55

Yeah but he’s always been grumpy. Being grumpy is his favourite.

Brickskithouse · 04/10/2021 21:56

Yes 52 and a proper grumpy bastard. Remembers to turn on the twinkly eyed charm every now and then though, just so we don't kick him out. I also keep him for his lawnmowing skills.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 04/10/2021 22:00

No.
I’m a grumpy old bag, though.🙂
