Just that really. It feels so freeing to know I won't lose an hour this evening to mindless scrolling...

Sorry to have offended many of you. Hope it's back up and running for you soon!

No, it's a bloody nightmare. I've been arranging a funeral via fb/messenger and there are lots of people I don't have any other contact details for.

Donutdisaster · 04/10/2021 22:35

I actually feel a bit lonely
I can't contact anyone
I can't facetime
I have to watch TV or look on mumsnet

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 04/10/2021 22:37

I'm pretty indifferent about it to be honest. It's probably a blessing in disguise though for those who have their phones glued to their hands - or the people they constantly pester! I have a friend who WhatsApps me every day, numerous times - when you're a text a friend once every couple of weeks kinda person, the whole outage thing is a welcome break tbh.

PurplePansy05 · 04/10/2021 22:41

I am liking it! Although I use WhatsApp a lot and miss it now, only just realised how much I use it every day!

Pipsqueakpopsqueak · 04/10/2021 22:42

Not thrilled here, I earn my living on Instagram, it’s a right pain in the arse really. Tomorrow was meant to be a release day, aka ‘pay day’ for me!

Thethreecs · 04/10/2021 22:43

It's back now

WhiskeyNeverStartsToTasteNice · 04/10/2021 22:44

I'm a Twitter obsessive, can't stand Facebook and fairly indifferent to Instagram so it's not really made much difference to me!

FirstTimeMommy2021 · 04/10/2021 22:45

I'm glad... it's meant my DH has not been on his phone. We talked a lot. He's actually an alright guy

evilharpy · 04/10/2021 22:47

I use facebook for my business (that's where my demographic hangs out and where I do all my advertising, take messages and queries etc) and whatsapp for arranging some contract work I do. Plus I was arranging weekend plans with a group of friends but we've reverted to good old email.

It's annoying. Even if you don't spend your evening mindlessly scrolling, the world many of us live in does have some dependency on social media.

Caramelsmadfuzzytail · 04/10/2021 22:47

I only use Facebook for local stuff, so I'm not missing it much.
I was using WhatsApp because its how I connect with my dc. Only to discover that they rarely use it themselves. So they recommended telegram to start with, which they don't use either Hmm. Then we finally got to discord, which is the one they do use.
I texted dc to ask to start with because obviously couldn't use the usual communication.

Killthewinewitchnow · 04/10/2021 22:47

No. I can’t contact DH who is working offshore with no signal.
If you don’t like social media, don’t use it Hmm

Killthewinewitchnow · 04/10/2021 22:49

@Thethreecs

It's back now
No it’s not.
FWBNC · 04/10/2021 22:49

WA being down is annoying. But I don't use the others. I don't even know why they're down 💁🏻‍♀️

EileenGC · 04/10/2021 22:50

It was back for about 5-6 minutes. Down again now.

EileenGC · 04/10/2021 22:51

I'm giving up and going to bed now. Good luck to all of you waiting for some signal before calling it a night Grin

Thethreecs · 04/10/2021 22:52

@Killthewinewitchnow mine is back up so is dhs.

Thethreecs · 04/10/2021 22:55

Now it's gone again. Just getting home page on fb.

AdoptedBumpkin · 04/10/2021 23:01

It's not really affected my evening, but it's an inconvenience for many in the world. So not thrilled for those people.

TravellingSpoon · 04/10/2021 23:04

Just WhatsApp being down that is a pain for me. Its the main way our team communicate and I had some important info I had to send out that I couldn't.

RampantIvy · 04/10/2021 23:08

For those of you who can't Facetime why haven't you tried Zoom, Skype or Duo?

Facebook owned apps aren't the only VOIP apps.

Bibbetybobbity · 04/10/2021 23:09

Yes- it’s been a lovely break. Happy to take a breather from WhatsApp especially Smile

liveforsummer · 05/10/2021 07:00

@EasterIssland

No family live abroad. Everyone I love lives abroad so worried something will have happened to them and I can’t help them
You mention this throughout the thread. What do you think is likely to happen in the brief couple of hours what's app is down? There's plenty other apps if people are desperate for contact in that time. Judging by the amount of posts about it, it seems most just came and scrolled on mumsnet instead though so not exactly freeing.
liveforsummer · 05/10/2021 07:02

@Bluntness100

Can you really not control youtself? It needs to be down for you to not go on? That’s really unhealthy.
Considering you've posted on, I think every mumsnet post I've ever read over the years, I'm not sure you can be judgemental about the social media use of others 😆.

If it's that important there must be an alternative to WhatsApp (which by the way is bloody annoying when the expectation is that work related stuff will be discussed on there, it's often non stop but you have to join in or miss important stuff which should also be communicated another way). Relying on a free platform isn't very robust.
