Can you give me some gift ideas for the woman who has everything ?

It's a significant birthday coming up. Budget of maybe a couple of grand maximum.

She has all the tech she needs, all the perfume, candles, cashmere, jewellery. No to experiences or spas. No to just giving it to charity which I'm sure someone will come up with but without going into detail, it's a well deserved gift

But I'm stuck. Any suggestions?

A beautiful handbag?
A course of horseriding lessons?
Hotel vouchers?

RedLemon · 04/10/2021 20:33

Does she like to read? You can pick up some lovely 1st editions and signed copies if you have a noodle around on abebooks.co.uk, especially if you have a few quid to spend. Maybe pick a favourite book or author and see what you can find.

Lots of handbags
Lolled at horse riding initially but can see the merit in it

Yes possibly to the hotel vouchers

Thanks

@RedLemon ooh now that is a decent idea. I'm off to look. I'd never have thought of that

@BatFinksWings sky dive ? Hot air balloon?

dragontightrope · 04/10/2021 20:35

I'm sure Louboutin did bespoke shoes once upon a time. I dream of that, the measure/mould your feet and make you a pair just for you.

RedLemon · 04/10/2021 20:36

Yes I bought a lovely old hardback edition of a Darwin book (not a first Ed obviously!) for my sister via that site some years ago as a special gift- she’s science teacher and devoted Darwin nerd. She adored it. Good luck!

dragontightrope · 04/10/2021 20:39

We sold a first edition to this shop once but they had some truly gorgeous first editions. It's on Kensington church street in London if convenient.

What does she like doing- what are her interests or hobbies?
I wouldn;t like perfume, candles, cashmere, jewellery, spa hot air balloon or hotel voucher, all lazy and generic gifts.
I appeciate a far more modest gift that shows me a person understand and listens to what I like and what I am interested in.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 04/10/2021 20:40

I think an experience of some kind.

Trip to see the northern lights or to see opera in vienna, a wine roadtrip in cape town / garden route...

BatFinksWings · 04/10/2021 20:45

What does she like doing?

Shopping, reading, eating, little luxuries. Antiques - very into history, old apothecary stuff

BatFinksWings · 04/10/2021 20:46

A first edition Famous five book would be a good shout

Quite like opera in Vienna - she doesn't like opera but what an experience

Could you have a painting commissioned? Maybe a scene of her favourite place/beach or a landscape from where she grew up? Art is very subjective, of course, but if you get it right it could be quite the stunning gift.

Standrewsschool · 04/10/2021 20:50

Flower bouquet subscription (or cheese/wine/book/other subscription)

BeaLola · 04/10/2021 20:54

I was reading through from your post and though painting but see just been suggested - great minds etc ! Wink

Or a sculpture ? Smalll bronze piece ? Garden sculpture.

I'm sure I read something somewhere (probably on Mumsnet) about a place on Paris where you can go and have your own blend made (& yes I know there are places in London etc but it was something about Paris that seemed more special)

A night sleeping overnight in a museum, Selfridges etc

BatFinksWings · 04/10/2021 20:55

Bronze sculpture! Yes!

Overnight stay in a museum - yes!

@speakout yes yes to those bottles. Amazing and just her thing

BeaLola · 04/10/2021 20:57

Sorry I should read before I press Post (!)
I meant special blend of perfume being done in Paris

Re the bronze / I have always wanted DS hands done

CleopatrasBeautifulNose · 04/10/2021 20:57

Just wondering why not to experiences? That covers a very wide scope. Everything from naked butler for a day to a trip to ice hotel in Norway or... List goes on and on

BatFinksWings · 04/10/2021 20:58

I also love the painting idea. She would adore a painting of the first house she grew up in I'm sure.

Such amazing ideas

How about a trip to Florence to visit the oldest apothecary in the world?

BatFinksWings · 04/10/2021 20:59

@CleopatrasBeautifulNose I suppose because my mind automatically goes to the red letter days kinda stuff? You know what I mean? But you're right - it can be all sorts

Regarding perfume - believe it or not, she actually has her own perfume. Not only that, other people buy it Grin

She's just ... tricky
