I love the Dua Lupa song and there is a Blue song I love. But please can people tell me why Elton John is so legendary. He doesn't have the best singing voice, does he?

He comes across as crotchety and entitled.
Plus his voice is shit…sorry but it is.

Because he also (co-)wrote songs, composed music and was very OTT visually and personally. The songs go with his voice - people like different voices. I don't like a lot of modern pop singers' voices.

Some (quite a lot actually) of his songs are extremely well written and better sung by others.

He is a talent songwriter.

I love him, absolutely gutted he’s moved his tour to 2023, so long to wait!

Elton has a huge back catalogue. If Dua Lipa and Blue collabs are the only things you like I would wonder how much of his back catalogue you have actually heard.

He doesn't have a good voice! How has managed to get to where he is?!!

I actually really like a lot of his older songs, think I took notice when they were in a film by Lars von triers. He's not my usual style but is obviously a very talented song writer.

Voice isn't everything

I think he used to be able to sing. Maybe it's ageing why he sounds like a cat coughing up a fur ball? Like the way some people get more wrinkles maybe some people get more scratchy voices. IDK.

Not even a fan, but he does have a very distinctive voice which you can can pretty much immediately identify.

Also, clearly other people must like it!

I actually really like his voice. It's about 8 billion times better than the walking funeral that is the Smiths front man.
And Bernie Taupin's songwriting is brilliant.

His voice isn't the same as it once was, used to be great but has lost tone. Listen to his older stuff. He's a classically trained pianist.

Sadly his voice has changed as he has got older and is not what it used to be.
I wouldn't say he was the world's best singer even in the 70s but his voice was very distinctive, with great energy. His talent as a songwriter is incredible. He got into the Royal College of Music, studying the piano, which is no mean feat.

I'm the other way round. I think Elton is magic/legendary and that Dua Lupa is just another manufactured poptart who can't sing.

His voice has definitely deteriorated as he's aged. He was fab way back when. And his writing skills are phenomenonal.

His voice isn’t as good as it used to be. I’ve noticed Madonna is the same. Part of getting older I think. Elton’s very talented and a great showman. I remember watching a tv show where he was given a set of washing machine instructions and he promptly turned them into a catchy tune. I really like Dua Lupa but her cover is awful. It adds nothing to the originals.
