Ah OP. I wish you a lovely dentist and dental nurse. I've had loads of work done and move are so kind and lovely and reassuring even though I just want to cry. Is this under local or GA?

Chewieboora · 01/10/2021 19:35

*mine

MouseRoar · 01/10/2021 19:36

oooh god you poor thing. I'm sure they'll make certain you're comfortable while it's happening, and have loads of painkillers for afterwards

Chewieboora · 01/10/2021 19:40

Yes, take your painkillers before the anaesthetic wears off and alternative ibuprofen and paracetamol. Get a decent book and go to bed if you possibly can after. If not try to rest as much as possible.

It's just going to be numbed. They are very kind and have not judged me at all . I'm just scared of the whole thing. And the feeling after . That's going to be so odd. I have to wear temporary bottom dentures and I know I'm just going to choke and gag.

I won't be able to do that. But I just don't want anyone to talk to me until the numbness has gone. But I that's not going to happen :(

Are you getting implants? They sound lovely and honestly that will help you loads, try to breathe deeply. My dentist is very reassuring and explains step by step regards he's doing but without going into detail.

The denture takes a bit of getting used to but I would keep on at the painkillers for as long as you need and don't feel you have to stop them too soon.

Chewieboora · 01/10/2021 19:48

That's a shame OP - do you mean when you get home or immediately after everything is done?

DrWankincense · 01/10/2021 19:52

Oh, that does sound scary Flowers.
But the dentist and nurses will have seen it all before and should be kind and sympathetic.
I am a gagger and my dentist is so lovely, he gave me a great tip just to slow my breathing and get my rhythm of breath before we start.
Wish you the best of luck, you'll get through it.

I mean from the time I'm numb. Like I don't even want to make my next appointment or communicate when paying. Then when I get home because my children are not going to allow me to just not talk. Sad

JMAngel1 · 01/10/2021 19:58

God, bless you - you will be looked after I'm sure.
Was it a case of gingivitis? Awful bad luck Flowers

Chewieboora · 01/10/2021 20:00

Totally understandable OP. Do you have anyone to watch them? Or not go home immediately 🙈

My entire top lip, cheek and nose have been numb and can talk okay but drinking is hard.

Antinerak · 01/10/2021 20:03

You might be able to pay beforehand, and ask the assistant to make sure you get out of the building okay and assist you if you need to talk. They'll be used to patients like you and will want you to be as comfortable as possible. If you can't talk or don't want to they will arrange for something to suit you. If you're very worried about what will happen, chat with them before they start, and get all of your worries out. They're used to nervous patients so they will look after you.

Yes I will do that. Anyway I want to transfer my teeth money to my/their dentist account. So I need to get that done anyway. Plus I want to ask them if we can just concentrate on my bottom teeth. As I have practically enough money for all that to be done. Then have a break over Xmas so can get Xmas done them start saving again in January. And get the top teeth done

@Imatramp1 are your teeth being replaced with dentures or implants (all in ones)?

What caused all these dental problems?

AdoraBell · 01/10/2021 20:26

Hand hold from me.

Chewieboora · 01/10/2021 20:55

Hope you're okay OP Flowers

I'm having temporary dentures for a bit I guess whilst gums heal. Then I'm having a few implants and permanent denture will be screwed onto the implants. I think that's it I have got a bit mixed up .

What caused it: a few things. I don't know what it's called but my teeth rot easily. And as a teen I remember having a really painful injection in the roof of my mouth and I have never felt pain like it felt like I was kind of being pushed up the chair. I was also sexually abused as child. So I feel very vulnerable and trapped in the chair. Then I have also had the we won't judge you thing from the dentist then they do just that so then I get scared all over again and it would take years for me to go back.

There’s only really one thing that causes teeth to rot - the bacteria from plaque. Poor diet combined with not brushing will do that.

It's not as simple as that. Some people's teeth are more inclined to rot than others. I had one tooth come through without enamel. Other than that I hardly have had a filling, and I wouldn't say I was particularly good about brushing teeth. The dentist told me I was very lucky in my teeth.
NigellaSeed · 01/10/2021 21:21

When it's happening, try this technique; Concentrate on the thought that your present self will soon be your past self and so whatever is happening now will not be happening to your future self. You will soon be that future self. Does that make any sense? That's what I do when I want to have an "out of body" to avoid discomfort.

Chewieboora · 01/10/2021 21:22

That all sounds really hard OP and well done you for making the appointment to go on Tuesday. Hats off to you.

My dentist offers me a breather, says raise your left hand if you need to stop, so good to know the option is there.

Best wishes for your appt.

That might be it. I don't remember the word he used I know he said it can be hereditary
