I'm sorry for what you've been through op that sound incredibly traumatic. Please be as honest with your care team and I'm more than sure they will be extremely caring and empathic 🙏

Oh I would never tell them that it feels to deep. But they have been very good though. His tone is gentle and he was so kind and told me not to be so hard on myself.

@SweetBabyCheeses99

There’s only really one thing that causes teeth to rot - the bacteria from plaque. Poor diet combined with not brushing will do that.

Nice

You should be really proud of yourself

Well done

Imatramp1 · 01/10/2021 21:33

@NigellaSeed

When it's happening, try this technique; Concentrate on the thought that your present self will soon be your past self and so whatever is happening now will not be happening to your future self. You will soon be that future self. Does that make any sense? That's what I do when I want to have an "out of body" to avoid discomfort.
Thank you. I'm so looking forward to it. I think once it's done I will begin to like myself. And start some other changes as well.

It sounds like you've had a tough time. Very best wishes to you. You'll get through it and it will be over, and that takes courage.

TSSDNCOP · 01/10/2021 21:40

Please OP unless you're devoted to it for some other reason change your user name. You are afraid of the dentist, I am too and for very good reason. Age 11 I was climbing out of a pool and my arm slipped causing me to crash onto the edge on my front teeth. Years of pain followed and I wear a denture now. No one knows, not even my husband of 25 years.

In a few weeks this moment will be past you. Have courage and faith in the future you.

Blackbird2020 · 01/10/2021 21:41

I have poor enamel too... it’s hereditary... I brush and floss religiously but I still get decay.

Try to think to a time when it will all be over, focus on a date in the calendar when you know it will have all passed. Your teeth will be fixed, the crap times will pass, and the professionals are there to make it happen as fast as healthily possible. You will smile again and this will be in your past!! Flowers

@Imatramp1 - Thank you so much for answering my question. It makes it easier for me to reply now.

I have NONE of my original teeth. I worked in a dentist surgery for years. I had the most beautiful of teeth. I was proud of my smile. BUT over the years something happened and my gums started to recede and my teeth became loose. I learnt (eventually - it was like pulling teeth if you will excuse the pun) that most of the females in my family, great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, had all lost their teeth at some stage whilst very young. I last until my 50's.

I had head scans and they could see that my bones in my jaw and my cheek bones and neck were just fading away. I saw specialist after specialist and they all came to the same conclusion, I needed my teeth removed and Titanium plates (pins) put in as Titanium is the only metal that bone will regenerate and adhere to.

I had my top teeth removed and Titanium posts put in. I had a set of dentures fixed onto these posts. It was traumatic, I won't lie, it completely exhausted me and I spent a week off work whilst I recovered and I needed this time off.

A month later I had my bottom teeth removed and the same procedure.

It mentally destroyed me for a while. I was so upset to loose my natural teeth.

Now, 18 months on I can honestly say that it was the best thing that I could have done. The bone IS adhering to the Titanium, my cheekbones are safe and so my neck.

The best news of all is that NO-ONE can tell that the teeth are not my own. So many people tell me I have a beautiful smile.

I just want to give you hope. Yes it is an awful experience to go through but it IS worth it.

JelliedHeels · 01/10/2021 21:46

OP I'm half way through implants being put in and the modern anaesthetic wears off very quickly. I was able to walk around the corner from the surgery and grab a coffee with no numbness. I didn't need much pain relief afterwards either.

That's incorrect. Have a google.
Fubitch · 01/10/2021 21:50

Just wear your mask, op. Nobody will see your mouth then. Good luck!

Chewieboora · 01/10/2021 21:50

@JelliedHeels wow! That's impressive. I had 3 shots in and didn't wear off for maybe a couple of hours? Though it does sort of wear off in stages I suppose.

Redredwiney · 01/10/2021 21:57

@SweetBabyCheeses99 You’re not very educated are you?

Redredwiney · 01/10/2021 21:58

I have weak enamel as well. It scares me that I’ll lose my teeth, but my maternal side of the family have just all had teeth that rots quickly and me and one of my sibling seem to have inherited it. It’s scary.

Mine takes a couple of hours to wear off.

That must have been so upsetting and scary for you. Its so much one complicated than people think. My dentist said my jaw bone is very thin. I don't have to have any plates or anything so I guess that's a good thing. He said he will use a shorter screw.

I (think) he did when all my teeth are removed and I have the implants it will stop my jew bone from thining any more?

OP posts:
Unreasonabubble · 01/10/2021 22:28

@Imatramp1 Yes! The screws will be made of Titanium and that means the bone will regrow! That is such good news! Sounds like you will be having what I have had. It is worth it.

I made this user name a few weeks back when I was feeling a bit sorry for myself. I don't really want to post things like this under my regular name.

I'm sorry for what you went through I hope your OK now and happy with your teeth.

Bless your heart I am totally feeling your pain. Ignore ignorant comments from
Those who say it’s down to diet and lack of brushing - I have just had all
My top and lower molars extracted and now
Have a partial denture on top and bottom jaw - Both are temporary in the hope that I can eventually implant - I have always brushed my teeth and visited dentists regularly but have periodontal disease which can be inherited and both my mum and nan suffered - I am 47 and my teeth have been failing me for ages since my twenties I have had recurrent abscesses from failed
Root canals and recently had a terrible scare where I ended up having a cyst removed that I must have had for years without knowing and it has destroyed my bone in my sinus and jaw badly. This has now been sorted and my amazing dental
team are now working with me to get my smile back. The solution was to extract my bad molars, heal my gums over the next 6 to 8 months, wear partial dentures on my bottom and top jaw and then look at potential bone graft and implants or better dentures going forward - believe me I
Dreaded this and choosing to do this wasn’t easy but I had the teeth extracted yesterday - today I am swollen and sore but I’m keeping in mind that I’m on the road to getting my smile back. I was so
Nervous but my dentist was amazing the nurse held my hand throughout and once numb I didn’t feel a thing other than a pressure feeling when they extract the tooth. Good luck and I wish you well on this journey you’ve made a very brave choice and you will get the smile you deserve. Be kind to yourself and I wish you wellxx

amysmom · 01/10/2021 23:30

What an ignorant comment - I’d love to see your dental qualification that allows you to comment like this!

BiLuminous · 01/10/2021 23:31

Hi. Not the same as alllll your bottom teeth but I have had three bottom teeth removed and two top teeth (all wisdoms except for one).

I had the sedation for when I had 3 wisdoms out at once but it didn't really have much effect on me. The recovery was very good. The first day was the worst just because i couldn't eat/drink well for it and my face was a bit swollen. After 3/4 days I felt totally normal.

I know it can be different for everyone but I'm hoping it goes well for you. Well done for facing it. You can do it. x
