@KezzabellaB

A before and after pic would be brilliant 😊 Yes I feel the same, I get a bit obsessive looking at people's teeth and smiles and wishing I could be like that... I really hope we both get sorted soon. Just a quick question, how are you paying for your treatment? 10.5k is a lot of money, I hope my treatment isn't that much otherwise I'm screwed Confused!
I'm paying myself its taken me around 10 months to save 4600. So I have the money to sort my bottom teeth. So that's sorted money wise . I will stop saving now until after Xmas then I will save the other half and hopefully by this time next year I will have had the top done as well.

My dentist did tell me if it came to it there are other choice like having a cheaper/different type of implant and having my temporary dentures adapted so that they can be fixed to the gum. But they only last about 3 years . I can't remember the actual name of it or cost though. I will ask him To write it down for me when I'm there.

@FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge

Agree with *@Justilou1*,

A podcast or music that relaxes you is the way to go. My dentist is happy to for me to listen to my music. If she needs to ask something she just gives my arm a wee tap. I also use a stress ball to give my hands something to do. She also lets me have a time out if I’m struggling, I just have to raise my hand. She is the sweetest dentist ever.

Good luck and may your new smile bring you much joy.

Thats not for me. I need to know everything that's going on . From start to finish. Grin

Blush Mine have cost me £30,000. They are dentures, all in ones, they are screwed into my bone. I do not ever have to worry about them coming out. They will, however, be taken out once a year to be cleaned by the hygienist.

It has taken a good 18 months for me to finally have a set which are comfortable, the bite is good and I like the colour. I think I gave my dentist some sleepless nights. I don't get "signed" off until after Christmas so that they can be sure I am really happy with my results.

Unreasonabubble · 03/10/2021 18:50

Mine, if I look after them (and I bloody well will) should last me 10 plus years, 15-20 if I am lucky.

Omg that's such a lot of money. So It seems mine are at the cheaper end of the scale. I really hope they will last. This is likely to be a one off for me.

Are there any foods you have to avoid

I've done this - top and bottom, and, again, a genetic predisposition to peridontal gum disease. I used to be so phobic about the dentist that I would cross the road rather than walk past one.

It's never as bad as you think it's going to be.

Having the implants was one of the very best things I've ever done. It's changed my life. Focus on that.

The interim business with dentures to let the gums heal was a bit rubbish, but, again, I focussed on the eventual outcome. It was bearable. You get used to it.

I am now completely comfortable and relaxed about the dentist. I do go to the hygienist every three month though as I have a lot of money invested in my mouth. And worth every penny of it.

It won't be as bad as you fear op. I promise.

Unreasonabubble · 03/10/2021 19:22

I was told to avoid crisps, baguettes, nuts in the beginning but now, with the final set in place, they are designed to withstand virtually everything. I just use common-sense now to be honest, if something is being hard to eat, then I just don't.

I don't think there is a cheap set or a particularly expensive set to be honest. I believe they quoted me what they did because they knew it would take nearly 2 years for me to be happy with them. And most importantly, for my dentist to be happy with them!

Unreasonabubble · 03/10/2021 19:23

Also, I had the problem of waiting for my bone to regrow, so steak and anything that involved long chewing was out of the question for at least 6 monts.

How long did you have your temporary dentures before you got your permanent ones ? Sorry for all the questions.

My new teeth are off white with a bit of staining on them. And not dead straight. I felt they would look more real for me.

I have had my temporary ones at least 18 months. Partly due to Covid as well as appointments did not happen as and when we all wanted them too. I also feel that because it took so long, it has been a lot easier for me to get used to them.

My "final" ones are sounding the same as yours! My teeth look really natural, not too white at all and they were designed with some staining on them. They look good.

Ah that's good . I really hope I don't have to wait to long. The appointment side of it is a bit annoying . Every time I make an appointment I have to wait 2 months. I thought it would be less as its private.

I have all the bottom teeth out today. I have had the temporary denture fitting. But it feels awful the bottom denture teeth keep hitting my top real teeth. My mouth is over watering. I feel like ripping them out 😭

Hold fast OP, your poor mouth is swollen and the denture is unfamiliar. I know that feeling. It's awful, but it'll fade faster than you imagine.

Unreasonabubble · 05/10/2021 20:18

@Imatramp1 - oh you poor thing you Sad. It really will get better I promise you. You will eventually learn to relax your jaw. At the moment it is totally alien to you and your brain. I so feel for you. xx

I hope your right. There's no turning back now anyway he did tell me to wear it in bed for a night or 2 as it will help get used to it faster.

jaw looks like Stan from American dad

He's right about sleeping in it. Your mouth will relax and your gums will soothe. I'm having flashbacks but I do promise it'll get better.

Chewieboora · 05/10/2021 22:25

I hope you feel better soon OP.

Definitely takes your brain a little while to reorder signals etc, couple of days maybe.

Unreasonabubble · 06/10/2021 00:17

You are braver than me. I have not ever looking at my gums/jaw since they took them out. I think my saviour has been that they screwed my dentures in.

My dentist said I have to wait for my gums to heal before I can have anything screwed in . Mind you it probably would cost more to have them screwed in and he knows I'm on a tight budget so that's probably why as well. He gave me done denture adhesive but it does not really work. I had a stitch in the gum as well and everytime I move it kind of pulls and really hurts.

.not I'm any actual pain though. If I touch my jaw feels a bit bruised that's it though

I am glad to see your sense of humour!!!

How did you get on with the denture fixing? I saw you had posted about it but could not offer any advice.

Imatramp1 · 09/10/2021 12:36

It's still not good. It's not painful or anything just feels awful. Feels like the adhesive acts like a semi suction it's really weird. I guess I just have to put up with it for a while

girafferafferaffe · 09/10/2021 12:59

Well done op. I have severe dental phobia and have avoided the dentists for over 10 years (until last week and I cried like a baby at them). You did it 💜

Dragonpox · 09/10/2021 13:06

@SweetBabyCheeses99

There’s only really one thing that causes teeth to rot - the bacteria from plaque. Poor diet combined with not brushing will do that.
My DD has enamel hypoplasia due to severe virul illness when she was a baby. We brush religiously and go through a whole host of hygeine measures she's allowed no sugar yet still they'll rot.
