Wayne Couzens experience in prison?

faithfulbird20 · 01/10/2021 12:08

Obviously I don't care how he gets treated but do you think other prisoners are going to give him a tough time especially since he's ex police and especially since what he did?

OP posts:
CarrieMoonbeams · 01/10/2021 14:54

He'll be on "Sui obs" (suicide watch) to start with, but I don't know how long that'll go on for.

He'll obviously be in an area with other rapists / sex offenders, rather than in with the "normal" murderers, so he's probably not in much danger there really, but either way, I don't think he's going to make old bones in prison. Good.

Limejuiceandrum · 01/10/2021 14:57

This thread is nuts. I hope to god that we never ever have a referendum on the death penalty.
It’s like they think the death penalty is only there for obvious bad people who it’s 100% certain did it. And you know confess.

In the USA
half of the 20 death row inmates who were exonerated by DNA testing had falsely confessed to the crime

But yeah folks, let’s bring it back!

lolawasashowgirl · 01/10/2021 14:59

What a vile thread. We should be focusing on the lessons we can learn from Sarah Everard's (preventable) death not revelling in how badly he will be treated in prison.

AuntieStella · 01/10/2021 15:02

But that's not what we do. In our society, we dont allow that or at least we shouldn't. We cant lock people up and then turn a blind eye to them being hurt with no way to escape. It isnt about what they deserve, it's about what we are willing to allow. What type of people are we

He will be attacked. There may very well be guards who do turn a blind eye. But we shouldn't be advocating for it because it isnt who we are

I think this is a really important point

PfizerMinnelli · 01/10/2021 15:06

@00100001

They won't introduce the death penalty.
  1. it isn't a deterrent
  2. Innocent people have been put to death.
It IS the Johnson Patel Cabal in charge of the Home Office. Nothing is impossible.
cricketmum84 · 01/10/2021 15:13

He can keep cracking his head on the walls for me. I imagine that's preferable for him over what the other prisoners would do to a sadistic raping murdering scum bag who also happened to be a police officer.

They will tear him apart and I, for one, will be cheering them on.

AlternativePerspective · 01/10/2021 15:13

Some of the people on this thread advocating torture etc are no better than he is.

The only thing that sets you apart is the fact that you haven’t actually done any of the actions you apparently condone.

But if it’s wrong to torture an innocent human being (and it is wrong,) then it is wrong to torture any human being.

We don’t live in a society where torture is advocated. Who do you suppose should do the torturing? Your son? Your brother? Your father? Do you think that it would actually give pleasure to people to torture another human being?

And if someone can torture a guilty human being with no thought as to what they’re doing, then that someone is equally capable of torturing any human being, and that could be you.

Could you sleep with your partner knowing that he’d done something so hideous to another person? Would it not enter your head if he got angry that he was capable of doing the same to you?

People don’t think beyond their own lust for revenge. They don’t consider the kinds of people behind the actions they’re condoning.

Civilised and decent human beings don’t commit those kinds of acts against anyone because torture is wrong, no if’s no buts, no exceptions. So if you would be happy to torture someone then that makes you a human being of the same level that they are.

cricketmum84 · 01/10/2021 15:15

@AlternativePerspective

Oh I don’t know, I don’t imagine solitary confinement is a particularly pleasant experience.

As for him being given a hard time by other prisoners, let’s not pretend that those prisoners will give him a hard time out of some kind of moral objection to what he’s done. The kinds of prisoners who will want to make a name for themselves for attacking someone like him are already violent lowlife, probably doing time for similar crimes who just want to gain a bit of notoriety.

And I don’t get the obsession with not mentioning his name. He is who he is, his name should be synonymous with what he’s done, not hidden away so people forget him. Because once you start forgetting his name, people will start forgetting who she was as well. In years to come people aren’t going to remember “Sarah Everard who was killed by some bloke,” but if his name is known then she will remain known as well.

My friend was murdered 21 years ago.

I still remember his name and I hope someone returns the favour for him while he is in prison!!!

cricketmum84 · 01/10/2021 15:25

@TertiusLydgate

Handsoffstrikesagain

100% agree.

The lynch mob mentality on here is depressing.

What do you want us to do!? Write him fucking letters?

He is where he deserves to be.

He took a young woman's life in the most brutal and horrifying way.

Why do you expect everyone to accept that?

Women and girls are being treated like this every single fucking day. And you want us to roll over and accept it. And not be a "lynch mob"

With the levels of violence and aggression directed at us every single day I think a lynch mob is exactly what we need!!

AlternativePerspective · 01/10/2021 15:26

Of course you remember your friend’s name, he was your friend.

But let’s look at historical cases where murderers have been released. Many of us will never have heard of those cases, and yet the release of their killers is in the news. I have no idea for instance what the names of Colin Pitchfork’s victims were, in fact I’d never herd of him either until he was released. But the fact is, he was. If we don’t know the names of these people then we have no idea when they might once again walk among us, or when they might potentialy be linked to a different crime of the same era etc. As their names disappear out of sight, so do their crimes.

As for wanting someone else to kill your friend’s murderer, where do you draw that line? Would you be happy for it to be someone whose crimes were worse than his? Someone who killed their children for instance? Or their wife? Or even all of the above? Someone who was guilty of depraved act against others? And what then of that killer? Who should kill him because of the acts he committed? Or will he become a hero in your eyes because he killed your friend’s murderer? Never mind the things he did to bring him in contact with the murderer in the first place?

Over time there will be prisoners who commit acts worse than that of Wayne Couzens. Will it be ok for him to kill them because they committed the latest hideous act which makes it to the news?

People hold Couzens in isolation because of what he did and the public nature of what he did. But there are others guilty of the same or worse crimes. Others who may have in fact never made it into the media, and yet you would be cheering them on because they’ve murdered the one person whose history you know about.

Zotter · 01/10/2021 15:27

@happydappy2

What if he claims he identifies as a woman and requests transfer to a womens prison? He'd most likely be moved there. The current system of womens prisons being mixed sex is appalling.
If he declared he is transgender and wants to move to the women prison estate, he would have to go through the process updated in 2019 where his case would be looked at by a Complex Case Board. His extremely violent case would mean he would be refused.
cricketmum84 · 01/10/2021 15:30

@AlternativePerspective my friend was a young girl.

I was saying I remember her murderers name.

And plenty of people who didn't even know her know her name.

He was a serial rapist. I don't care what happens to him but I don't see it as a great shame if he was wiped off this earth.

Aposterhasnoname · 01/10/2021 15:32

The only thing that sets you apart is the fact that you haven’t actually done any of the actions you apparently condone.

Actually the one thing that sets me apart is having a friend who’s DD was murdered by a well known paedophile. I’ll go to sleep tonight hoping with every fibre of my being that someone fed him shit in jail.

And if you don’t like that, well, as I said. I’m fresh out of fucks to give.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 01/10/2021 15:33

@cricketmum84 What do you want us to do!? Write him fucking letters?

It sounds like some posters on this thread might already have their biro's out...

VavavoomHenry · 01/10/2021 15:35

This thread is really gross.
What he did was unspeakably appalling. I’m still reeling from the horror of the details. But it’s beneath a civilised society to hope he gets his food contaminated, assaulted or worse. We treat him better than he treated Sarah because it’s wrong to treat anyone like that, ever. Doesn’t matter what they have done. It’s not because he deserves anything as an individual but it’s about basic rights as a human that we stand upon and refuse to give ground on. It’s called the moral high ground and I’d like to see us take a bit more of it as a society.

cricketmum84 · 01/10/2021 15:40

Have you ever lost anyone to murder @VavavoomHenry ?

Have you had to imagine your child's last moments terrified? Having been raped and now with a belt around her throat.

No? Ok then.

Snookie00 · 01/10/2021 15:45

I’m not going to lose any sleep over his ongoing misery in prison.

As a police officer he knew exactly what he’d face in prison but obviously decided that kidnapping, raping and murdering Sarah was worth the risk.

All the noble worthy mums angsting “oh why won’t you think of the poor murderer/ rapist policeman and his human rights” won’t change that

lolawasashowgirl · 01/10/2021 15:46

What @VavavoomHenry said. I suspect that if we were using our real names on this thread nobody would be commenting

peaceanddove · 01/10/2021 15:48

@WizardOfAus

There are too many men carrying such evil within them.

I was disgusted to read he was in a WhatsApp group with five police officers who are now being investigated for gross misconduct.

They were sharing misogynistic content of a "grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character".

What hope do women and girls have in this world where POLICE OFFICERS are doing this shit?

There needs to be a ban on extreme and violent porn.

It’s fucking men up.

Does anyone know how they managed to trace the WhatsApp group he was in? I read that DC wiped his phone just before he got arrested.
Theythinkitsalloveritisnow · 01/10/2021 15:48

I think the posters outraged at people posting hypothetical (and impossible) scenarios are people who are probably lucky enough that neither they nor their loved ones have been victim of a horrendous crime. And it is all completely hypothetical, no-one here can put shit in his food or beat him up, we have zero power to do anything to him. All anyone on here can do is have a tiny outlet for how furious and hopeless a lot of women feel today. I think not acknowledging that and trying to police posters into only having totally objective, calm posts is nasty and lacking in empathy actually. Have you thought of giving your self righteousness a day off for once?

DownToTheSeaAgain · 01/10/2021 15:48

@cricketmum84

Have you ever lost anyone to murder *@VavavoomHenry* ?

Have you had to imagine your child's last moments terrified? Having been raped and now with a belt around her throat.

No? Ok then.

Feeling intense anger towards someone who has done someone you love harm is totally understandable. Advocating that others should actually be permitted to meet harm on this person and that such harm is justified by your anger is not.

@VavavoomHenry makes a really important point. We put people in prison for doing bad things but to do bad things (beyond the fact of their imprisonment) to them brings us as a society down to their level. It is inhumane and not the act of a civilised society that supports universal human rights.

Immaculatemisconception · 01/10/2021 15:50

@StellaCinnamon

Not usually an advocate of the death penalty. But in this case I’d say just put the bastard down like the animal he is.
Animals are far better than many humans.
Snookie00 · 01/10/2021 15:54

@lolawasashowgirl

What *@VavavoomHenry* said. I suspect that if we were using our real names on this thread nobody would be commenting
If a nationwide poll was run I think you’d find that most people don’t care about what happens to him inside and it is a minority of people who will worry one iota over his treatment.

Of course they’re the self-professed worthy ones and the rest of us are inhumane savages but i suspect your thinking is not in line with the vast majority of the population.

VavavoomHenry · 01/10/2021 15:55

@cricketmum84

With respect you have literally no idea what I’ve experienced. You either believe in human rights or you don’t. You can’t choose those people you consider worthy of them. Of course he should be imprisoned for life, that’s justice and protection for society. But abusing him isn’t justice, it’s vengeance. When something horrific happened to me I might have chosen vengeance if I’d had the opportunity. But thankfully I live in a society where that isn’t easy or legal. With the benefit of hindsight I revel in the moral high ground. I know I’m the innocent one, the perpetrator is the guilty one. Don’t dirty yourself with this vile stuff. Stay in the high moral ground.
