Previously undecided voters would you vote for Starmer's Labour now?

Are there any previously Tory voters or undecided voters who would now consider voting Labour in a GE based on Kier Starmer's speech and him taking on the far left of the party?

I vote Labour anyway but I'm interested if any of his speech "cut through" as they say. To my eyes the main heckler just came across like a complete loony and made Kier Starmer's stance look even more sensible.

@jewel1968

Lots of people here saying they can vote for a party that doesn't recognize their sex. My question is how commmon a view do you think this is amongst the electorate? I am wondering how much an impact this will have on their vote share. Do their focus groups pick up anything on this?
They've been studiously ignoring it when it has been raised by women, is what's happened. But it's out there now.

I think it'll bite them on the bum, yes. Genderwoo really jumped the shark this week at the Labour Conference what with one farce and another.

Tartanshores · 30/09/2021 18:53

No

Coyoacan · 30/09/2021 18:55

I suspect that Starmer is working for the Tories. He's alienated women, the left and pro-Palestinians

I agree with the woman aspect, but a bunch of antisemites being expelled was like long overdue; that’s what they were, not ‘pro-Palestinians’
Nidan2Sandan · 30/09/2021 18:59

Never!!

fluffyanimals · 30/09/2021 19:00

Not in a million years. Which is a shame because I'm stumped as to who gets my vote now. As long as they are confused about what a woman is then I can't trust them to run the country can I!

WallaceinAnderland · 30/09/2021 19:06

Isn't it worth getting a more socially caring government in first before then challenging them in their stance on women?

What is socially caring about removing womens rights and freedom of speech?

WhereYouLeftIt · 30/09/2021 19:11

If a political party not only does not work in my best interests, but actually is working actively against them - how can they possibly think that I'll vote for them?

I really don't think I could vote Labour right now, and I have mostly voted Labour all my lifeSad. It's possible a miracle will happen between now and the next General Election, but failing that, no, Labour will not be getting my vote.

Well quite. And who in their right mind would vote for a party that has unequivocally nailed its colours to the mast in the hope they might be prevailed upon later not to do what they've promised?? Face eating leopards party! Nah, I'll take them at their word thanks.
Iputthetrampintrampoline · 30/09/2021 19:20

After watching his speech to Conference yesterday I would say NO. He seems a decent chap but thats not enough and it appears to me he is modelling himself on Blair and thank the lord that ship has sailed although you wouldnt think it with the coverage Blair has demanded recently. No Kier sorry

WhereYouLeftIt · 30/09/2021 19:26

"Isn't it worth getting a more socially caring government in first before then challenging them in their stance on women?"

Ah, the 'Jam Tomorrow' argument.

Have you really never noticed that issues important to women are always shoved down the priority list in favour of - well, anything really? And the whole premise that women should wait patiently until they get to the head of the queue - that's female socialisation certainly, but it hasn't worked, has it? We never reach the head of the queue. All manner of things nimbly skip in front of us, and still we are expected to wait - patiently, uncomplainingly - ENDLESSLY.

Enough. No More.

WhereYouLeftIt · 30/09/2021 19:28

"Isn't it worth getting a more socially caring government in first before then challenging them in their stance on women?"

And another thing - caring? Labour? In what way are they caring?

Blossomtoes · 30/09/2021 19:30

I spoilt my paper in 2019. It looks as if I’ll be doing it again next time unless they stop alienating 51% of their potential voters. I’m pretty disgusted by their treatment of Rosie Duffield too.

Alekto · 30/09/2021 19:32

For the men-y, not for you.

Brilliant!

Spottybluepyjamas · 30/09/2021 19:34

Not since they forgot what a woman is

Alekto · 30/09/2021 19:44

@Whatstheweatherlike

Not that you'd vote for them but by denying Labour your vote then you'd be getting them elected for sure.

This makes me so angry - I'm not going to cave into some sort of emotional blackmail. I refuse to vote for a party that doesn't recognise what a woman is. You might think women like me should simply put up and shut up, but I won't. I've had enough of being dismissed and patronised.

It's actually the point for me. I am an ex Labour Party member; rescinded my membership a couple of years ago. Now I will actively vote against the Labour Party. If you'd told me this was now I'd feel I would never have believed you in a million years.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 30/09/2021 19:49

Dear Jesus no.

PrincessPaws · 30/09/2021 20:19

*Isn't it worth getting a more socially caring government in first before then challenging them in their stance on women?

Socially caring for who? Men? Because how can you genuinely care about people who you won't acknowledge as having a specific set of needs?

JellySlice · 30/09/2021 20:24

Absolutely not.

Previously undecided voters would you vote for Starmer's Labour now?
Ashhead24 · 30/09/2021 20:32

Not a chance. I think I'm at spoiling ballot time. Women are not an idea in someone's head and to suggest they are is offensive.

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 30/09/2021 20:56

No,thank you.

Evesgarden · 30/09/2021 21:05

No self-respecting woman should wish or work for the success of a party who ignores her sex

Brilliant quote!

And no I won't be voting for labour again until they admit that "women means adult human female"

VinylQueen · 30/09/2021 21:10

I think Starmer is a decent guy, and I'm fed up with having total assholes in charge. I strongly suspect he wouldn't even start legislation on self ID were he to win a GE, and that he'd prioritise a million other policies before even looking into gender ID. I don't think the legislation would be brought in or even put forward.

I think it's disappointing that the shadow cabinet said these things about cervixes in interviews, but he's in between a rock and a hard place with all the far left threats and is kicking the can down the road to keep the far left loonies off his case on yet another toxic argument.

Keir has shown his utter spinelessness. He would do as he was told, like a good little puppet.

HermioneKipper · 30/09/2021 21:21

Nope. I’ve got no idea who to vote for at the moment. Keir hasn’t condemned the abuse against Rosie Duffield and thinks men have cervixes so no chance he’s getting my vote.

Just have to hope Shahrar Ali gets in for the Greens
