on the phone to the garage mechanic who has just done my MOT when he phoned to tell me when to get the car.

Why? Why did I do that ? he will think I am mad won't he? He already thinks I'm odd because my mileage is so low because I just pop to the shops and back in the car.

My DD was in the hallway and overheard me and was wetting herself.

Every day I find new ways to embarrass myself. Grin

The other way about - once rang for a (different) insurance quote and going through it he asked how many people in house - so explained DH DCs - then he said What is your occupation Mrs Basilisk & I said None ( I am retired ) and he said - What ? you're a nun? He was embarrassed - I laughed.

I once kissed my drama teacher because I thought she was leaning in to do that double cheek kissy thing.
She was going for the light switch.

Redsquirrel5 · 29/09/2021 17:28

😂🤣😂🤣😁That has really cheered me upAmy

I once said “thanks poppet” to a man who let me in front of him in a supermarket queue. I only had a couple of things and I had just come from school.
Lots of the kids have called me mum( and other things) and if it was a Yr 6 they really cringed as their class mates really took the mick.

Bet that doctor hoped you wouldn’t have another appointment🤣

Ughhhh what did you do? I mean obviously you left school and possibly the country but how do you brazen that one out?
MydogWillow · 29/09/2021 17:31

A couple:
I had a phone call from DS during the school day so answered it straight away "hi darling, you OK?" It wasn't my son but his Head of Year asking my authority on something. We had a chuckle but he went very, very red apparently.
Thank goodness the next parent's evening was not in person... Grin

I've put a X at the end of a text to a new rep.

Oh and I once left an answerphone message for a customer finishing off "it'll be really good to see you" 😳

number87inthequeue · 29/09/2021 17:31

My DH once took a phone call at home from an older male colleague who wanted to offload about something very minor that happened at work. DH had clearly lost interest after the first few minutes and got the same far away expression on his face as he does when his mum calls to tell him about the new kitchen her friend's, neighbour's, daughter is having fitted. DH ended the call with 'Bye for now, love you.'

The DC and I were in fits. Apparently neither he nor the other man have ever mentioned it.

nc4565 · 29/09/2021 17:31

A friends husband once said "bye love you!" to me when we were all leaving an event together 😅

utican · 29/09/2021 17:31

I actually got that from a fairly well known comic actor I was interviewing for a website once, sounded like he was crossing the road as he was hanging up and stopped concentrating on the call Grin

Mumtofourandnomore · 29/09/2021 17:32

We use Microsoft teams at work and I responded to my managers message with a love heart emoji rather than thumbs up - they are next to each other in fairness…….

butterpuffed · 29/09/2021 17:33

I worked on a switchboard for years, answering hundreds of calls a day. Not once but TWICE I got on the bus home and instead of asking for a ticket I said to the driver "Good Afternoon how can I help you" Blush

Brollywasntneededafterall · 29/09/2021 17:34

Cleaned for a new customer a few weeks ago. Had been getting to know his dcats and ddogs... We managed some fab conversations...i had thought the man was out..
He wasn't. Cameras in every room. He was in the loft office..
Blush

I had a business lunch meeting with a contractor that I hadn’t seen for ages and it was a ‘touch base’ meeting.

As we parted at the tube station and she went to go down that stairs we waved and I yelled ‘lovely to see you!’. She stopped, looked a bit taken aback then yelled ‘love you too!?’. Blush

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 29/09/2021 17:36

I once called my boss Mum, my boss was a man!
To be fair he had made the drinks for the team that day & I had been talking about my DM to a work colleague at that exact moment!

AmyDudley · 29/09/2021 17:37

@trevthecat that seriously crossed my mind. Grin

Duchess379 · 29/09/2021 17:38

I would have replied 'love you too'! 😆

clary · 29/09/2021 17:39

Love these!

I still occasionally answer the phone "good afternoon, newsroom" - I haven't worked in a newsroom for more than 12 years so I don't know what that's about.

A few years ago, when out with grown-up friends, I shouted "ooh look, a fire engine" - my DC were aged 4- 8 at the time in my defence. They weren't with me tho. Grin

As a teacher, I used to get called "mum" quite often, typically by my form. My mum taught cookery and she used to get it a lot, mostly from 15yo lads "mum, this cooker isn't working" Grin

HalzTangz · 29/09/2021 17:41

Ha, he'll be asking you out on a date when you go get the car

AmyDudley · 29/09/2021 17:41

I'm loving all these Grin

cheeseislife8 · 29/09/2021 17:42

I said it to the pizza guy on the phone once. Dh nearly wet himself

Summerhillsquare · 29/09/2021 17:45

As a child I was encouraged to wave at trains, a là The Railway Children. I still do it absentmindedly sometimes, but only really cringe when someone on the train waves back!

crj123 · 29/09/2021 17:46

@Kanaloa I think I hid under the bed for quite some time..,
(Currently typing from under the bed at remembered cringe; see you in a fortnight or so)
