I'm home alone today and except for whatsapping my friends have nothing to do with this incandescent rage and hopeless sadness.

Anyone else need to talk? Sad

Haven't RTFT but I was really sickened by the Radio 4 6pm news which, at the end rounded off with the headlines: 'The serving police officer who murdered Sarah Everard pretended to arrest her for breaching covid guidlines before raping and strangling her. And the business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has announced that soldiers will be driving petrol tankers from tomorrow.'

It seemed so demeaning. A woman raped and killed by a man abusing his power. And petrol deliveries. Given the same importance and delivered in a kind of politely cheerful voice.

And on top of that the constant, constant use of the word gender when they mean sex. Women are discriminated against and murdered and exploited because of their sex, not their gender. Couzens wasn't interested in Sarah Everard's gender.

LexMitior · 29/09/2021 22:17

No, its not just porn. Its a way of thinking about others which just doesn't acknowledge they are human beings. Sex is about relating, porn is not.

Porn is an issue. Its use was at one time a big red flag in crime. The more deviant, the more problematic the person. So use of prostitutes, blase claims about rape, using porn - equals a man who does not like women.

NoLongerADoormat · 29/09/2021 22:18

@StartingGrid EXACTLY! They knew all along what was gonna happen. WC was a fucking ticking time bomb

AnnieSnap · 29/09/2021 22:19

@Claudethecat

DoraMaude I don't entirely agree. Men must take some collective responsibility for the fact that women are routinely murdered, raped, sexually assaulted, beaten up, harassed.
What happened to Sarah is horrific. My reaction to the manner in which that piece of scum controlled her is anger and distress. My first thought, verbalised to my husband, is that the scum should have his genitals ripped off and then be imprisoned for the rest of his life.

I cannot agree that decent men need to take collective responsibility for male violence against women. In what way is a decent man, with feminist ideals, who cares about the welfare of women, responsible.

Absolutely not. Men as a generality are 100% not responsible for the actions of a vile individual.
Pumperthepumper · 29/09/2021 22:20

Who is then? How do we fight the endemic problem of male violence?

So not men, women can’t, the police won’t - who’s left?

DancyNancy · 29/09/2021 22:24

Life in prison is not what this guy deserves. Such evil.
Her family, a nightmare to live every day knowing what she suffered.
I spend my thoughts and energy on this to bring the family strength and healing. And for Sarah to rest in peace.
And ya, I also hope that bastard gets what he inflicted 3fold.

Do you understand what is meant by ‘men taking collective responsibility’? What do you think it means?

Claudethecat · 29/09/2021 22:31

I stand by what I said. Completely and utterly.

Off to bed now. Thanks to the OP for starting this thread. I hope tomorrow we see justice for Sarah. I also hope that the police service is held to account for its part in this terrible murder.

TeachesOfPeaches · 29/09/2021 22:32

Not sure if this has been posted, the impact statement from Sarah's mum. The beginning is in bold letters.

Why not?

ShotgunShack · 29/09/2021 22:34

The fact that the Met are already washing their hands of this is utterly rage inducing, with their ‘not one of us’ rubbish.

Colleagues nicknaming him The Rapist
THREE reports of indecent exposure ignored
The hammering down on Sarah’s vigil

Also, didn’t one officer get a wrist slap for taking pictures of Sarah’s body on his phone and sending them? At the crime scene.

Stinking, vile misogynistic culture to the very core. OWN IT.

AnnieSnap · 29/09/2021 22:36

@LukeEvansWife

I have a question.

With the amount of male violence, what is it about this case that has upset people so much? Unfortunately, women get raped, beaten, murdered by men all the time. Do you cry over them all or was there something about this that triggered that reaction?

I do feel gut wrenchingly awful for every woman I hear of/listen to/read of. I think what feels worse about this one is that he was a copper. Of course I knew that they can be bastards in all sorts of ways, but the majority seek to protect innocent members of the public in their routine work on the streets, whatever they are like behind closed doors. A woman could have actually approached this arsehole for assistance having been followed or subject to a crime by another man. It’s that incongruity that makes Sarah’s murder so button pressing I think.
worriedatthemoment · 29/09/2021 22:36

@LexMitior I would like to see tougher sentences for crimes , like indecent exposure on purpose , a normal person wouldn't do this , so it should carry a sentence , carrying knifes again a prison sentence
Maybe if the punishments were harsher and the consequences there this would deter some and maybe not escalate
This man i have no words for and he should never see the light of day again , life should be life
This was a planned horrendous crime of which the victim stood no chance
Reading her families statements is heartbreaking he has robbed them of everything

Gimlisaxe · 29/09/2021 22:37

In what way is a decent man, with feminist ideals, who cares about the welfare of women, responsible.

It should be a collective ideal, something as simple as when a woman says no, should not be met by maybe she is playing hard to get orshe is probably just gay.

Boys will be boys, should never be used in any context.

Cat calling being met by don't be a fucking arsehole from everyone, not just the woman who it is directed at.

Bigger things, a massive change to the legal system, especially in rape trials.

JacquelineCarlyle · 29/09/2021 22:39

I'm another who is incandescent with rage & fury at what he did but also at the police force who effectively gave him license to behave this way. He's an utter scum bag & the Met police really do need turning inside out to understand how this happened with one of their own - heads really need to roll but somehow I can't imagine that they will.

I sincerely hope her family manage to find some peace but I can't see how that would ever be the case so I wish them strength to just get through each day. So sad & sorry for the loss of their beautiful girl.

MrsRobbieHart · 29/09/2021 22:40

Porn has a lot to answer for, but can we solely blame porn? No matter how much porn I watch, it wouldn't want to make me want to hurt, abuse or kidnap and rape and MURDER another human being. sad

Of course we cant solely blame porn.

A) men have been raping and murdering women since time began

B) porn doesn’t create sexually abusive men. Sexually abusive men create porn. The porn exists because men want to see it, porn doesn’t put ideas into their heads, porn is the expression of what’s already in their heads.

littlbrowndog · 29/09/2021 22:40

And so it goes on 80 more women and children murdered by men close to them since Sarah was murdered

Why do men kill us. ?

worriedatthemoment · 29/09/2021 22:40

@Pumperthepumper because its society that needs to change , why do some women cover for men , where is the solidarity there? A violent crime is not less tragic if committed by a women and there is still a victim
All murders / rapes etc are horrific yes men commit more crimes but I would say in the last few years Im starting to see more and more stories of women committing crimes or being involved
Society seems to acceot more violent behaviour , turn a blind eye etc
It takes all or at least the vast majority to change this

It doesn’t matter how many stories you’re seeing - men are currently killing two women every single week in the UK.

So who stops it? Women have been trying to for literally decades, at what point do we expect men to step up?

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 29/09/2021 22:43

Absolutely not. Men as a generality are 100% not responsible for the actions of a vile individual.

Every time men laugh at a nickname like 'The Rapist', every time they get a 'funny' porn video in the group WhatsApp chat and don't call it out, or rape jokes, every time they dismiss misogynistic talk as 'locker room bantz', every time they go to a strip club or brothel on a stag do and 'what happens on the stag stays on the stag', every time they cover for each other....

It all adds up to a culture of seeing women as sub-human. This isn't just one evil person. Almost 3 women a week are murdered in the UK - I think something like 85 women have been murdered by men since Sarah Everard was killed. This is not an anomaly.

limitedperiodonly · 29/09/2021 22:43

That fucker hasn't even been sentenced yet and on the first page there was a woman saying NAMALT backed up by other women.

Sarah Everard was murdered by a man who planned her abduction, rape, murder and disposal of her body like she was trash. I cannot believe the women on here who are saying NAMALT but if you would like to come back to me you can.

I wouldn't mind betting that he abused many other women - his colleagues nicknamed him "The Rapist". These were police officers.. What the hell was going on in their heads? They are culpable just like the Met officers who broke up the vigil for her because they didn't like women getting uppity.

Men aren't the only ones. Look at Met Police Commissioner Cressida Dick who defended her officers and Home Secretary Priti Patel and the women on here bleating NAMALT,
