I'm home alone today and except for whatsapping my friends have nothing to do with this incandescent rage and hopeless sadness.

Anyone else need to talk? Sad

@Saltovinegar

A slight derail, posters have mentioned Harold Shipman with regards to not all GP's are like that. Rules were brought in to prevent GP's working in a practice alone after his crimes came to light. I wonder if the police will change any rules or procedures in view of this awful crime.
I suspect not, they look after their own.

He won't be looked after in prison though, horrible though it is, that's the only thing remotely close to justice the family will ever have Sad

Exactly. And of course they won’t. They’ve had plenty of opportunity over the years with very high profile mishaps.
whereislittleroo · 29/09/2021 18:11

@Claudethecat

DoraMaude I don't entirely agree. Men must take some collective responsibility for the fact that women are routinely murdered, raped, sexually assaulted, beaten up, harassed.
Exactly. It's enough men that it is absolutely a gendered issue. If men's earlier or "smaller" aggressions were taken seriously, perhaps there would be fewer rapes and murders.
Bordois · 29/09/2021 18:11

Do people who bring out the "1 bad apple" quote realise the full saying is

1 bad apple spoils the barrel

Apples don't go bad overnight, he was enabled.

GatoradeMeBitch · 29/09/2021 18:12

Some measures should be put in place to protect women. "Oh well, just one bad apple - and it's not like there are limited imagination deviants out there who just got struck by inspiration and would like to see if they can do it too and not get caught. Everyone back to normal!" just doesn't cut it.

We all have phones these days. The officer can confirm with a central number that he wants to bring someone in. The person can call a number - from google, not the man - to confirm that it's genuine. Not too difficult to implement.

Feelingoktoday · 29/09/2021 18:13

@Bordois

Great, so this thread has now descended into "won't someone think of the menz"

Fuck off, I don't give a shit about men or their hurty feelfeelz at this particular point in time.

Exactly. I have two sons. If there was a curfew - tough - I would support it. My sons have more freedom than me, their mother. I have to rely on my 19 year old walking me back home at night when I’ve been out to dinner. When I was a teenager it was my dad. Then my husband and now my son walks me home, his 56 year old mum. And you know what, when I asked my son to do it the first time he didn’t even question it - because he knows that it isn’t safe for his mum to walk home at midnight.

When a teacher is exposed as being a pedophile, we all don't suddenly start saying "all teachers" do we?

I’ve never known a school where a member of staff was nicknamed “The Rapist” by colleagues and jokes made about it…

Plus teachers (whilst in a position of trust etc etc) are not actually responsible for upholding the law and policing society either …
Mummyoflittledragon · 29/09/2021 18:16

I agree he was enabled. Her poor parents. The fear Sarah must have felt and the pain she went through is awful. His colleagues knew what he is. We know a segment of the police to be highly misogynistic.

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 29/09/2021 18:16

@HaggisBurger

Just so utterly fucking furious. Reading Sarah’s mum’s victim impact statement in full is heart rending. May she rest in peace and may her poor family find some peace - at some time. Fuck him and every other man who feels entitled to “take” whatever the hell they want from a woman, no matter what.
Indeed. And fuck, as well, the apologists and handmaidens who value preserving men's feelings above the horrifyingly huge body count of women who are murdered at the hands of men. To post that shit on this of all threads shows so great an insensitivity to reading this particular room that I have to conclude it's deliberately provocative.

Fuck off with your NAMALT. Just fuck off.

This also goes for the ones seemingly reluctant to address the internalized misogyny within the police force. Wayne Couzens is not unique.

The statistics don't lie.

Enough4me · 29/09/2021 18:17

Whenever women are killed doing normal things like walking, some men will mansplain that more men are murdered than women overall or that the UK stats for women are better than 3rd world countries.

I never understand if they are completely thick, misogynistic, or both.

WrapAroundYourDreams · 29/09/2021 18:18

This. 100%.

FourTeaFallOut · 29/09/2021 18:19

That 'one bad apple' lives in a world were the criminal justice system couldn't give a fuck about flashers, couldn't give a fuck about women being raped day in and out, dishes out Mickey mouse sentences for men who kill women "accidentally", dehumanise women all day long, where policemen are happy to send pictures of murdered women to their mates for a joke, drag women away from vigils of other dead women like scum and on and on it goes...one bad apple, my fucking arse - the whole fucking orchard is rotten.

Jackiebrambles · 29/09/2021 18:19

I came looking for a thread like this. I feel so weepy and heart broken for her Mum. Her poor baby.

I’m fucking furious at the Met who enabled this pervert to still have a warrant card and be a serving police officer. I am but normally one who calls for people to lose their jobs but heads need to roll for this.

Babochan88 · 29/09/2021 18:22

Shed a few tears for her. What horrific brutality. May her soul forever rest in peace.

wewereliars · 29/09/2021 18:23

Agree completely with Pumper.

The police should be held to a very high standard of behaviour, because of the power they wield. Couzens was obviously scum, but his character was clear to see. He should have been off the streets a long time before he was able to get any where near Sarah.

Gwrach · 29/09/2021 18:23

I'm angry, I've cried, I've been angry again.

For this one occasion I'd vote to have him burnt at the steak. A punishment women have faced in centuries before.

Burn the man! I'll be front row with a fucking pitchfork for this one.

Mumoblue · 29/09/2021 18:24

“One bad apple”- I don’t think so. First of all we all know the rest of that saying is “spoils the bunch”.
And second, if you have one bad cop and 9 good cops who do nothing, guess what- you’ve got 10 bad cops.

worriedatthemoment · 29/09/2021 18:24

@Claudethecat no they shouldn't, do you take responsibility for mums that murder or kill there children
This is about one evil man who did this not about all men
The victim had male relatives too , are you saying they should feel that too ?
I hope they lock him up and throw away the key , look what he has also done to his own kids life as well

worriedatthemoment · 29/09/2021 18:25

@DoraMaude i have just posted similar
People are responsible for their own actions they cannot go around blaming others or society , he knew right from wrong

Littlehaven998 · 29/09/2021 18:26
@Littlehaven998 I also think they need to be taught the statistics.
The ones that show how many men are responsible of violence, against men and women.
The ones that show the level of rape (esp when it’s NOT reported), sexual assault and sexual abuse.
The ones that make it clear where the problem is.

Because my experience with my teens boys is that they just don’t believe that the situation is that bad for women.

The ones you really don’t want is all the crap about dressing approximately, staying in lit areas etc… that are making women responsible of their rape/abduction, not the perpetrators
Exactly, also I think that pornography should be regulated a lot more.

I once met a man on a dating site who watched real life scenario pornography, which is really popular supposedly.

Fake taxi’s, fake police etc where these taxis/fake police or fake doctors use their work, power etc to take advantage of women. That’s one click away for these young men and it really must ingrain on their minds that women would be receptive of those scenarios.

I feel so frightened for the world we live in. In fact, it’s becoming a pandemic within itself what with the statistics.

TheVanguardSix · 29/09/2021 18:27

Do people who bring out the "1 bad apple" quote realise the full saying is 1 bad apple spoils the barrel? Apples don't go bad overnight, he was enabled.

Yes! I'm on a PC so can't access my clap emojis, but strings of claps for this! He was entirely enabled and a blind eye was turned on many an occasion. I'd bet my grandmother's life on that!
Since I'm here, trapped inside the fucking RED MIST (my STBX is on bail awaiting trial for the sexual abuse of our daughter over a 4 year period... so I am here, for every female, with rage on steroids!), I can honestly say that predators are enabled. And what's more? They are supported even when caught. My daughter's godfather is supporting her assailant... not her, his own goddaughter but the man who assaulted and abused her repeatedly. Men blow my mind, completely and utterly blow my mind. The moral malignancy among men in an organisation is terrifyingly rife.

IfImLyingImDying · 29/09/2021 18:29

@worriedatthemoment have you even read the details? His colleagues ENABLED him.

They gave him the oh so hilarious nickname of “The Rapist” because of the way he treated women.
They knew he was into violent porn.
Minutes before the police arrived to arrest him, he cleared his phone. Do you think that’s just a coincidence?
They were told of his indecent exposure THREE TIMES and didn’t act.

The knew. They fucking knew.

LexMitior · 29/09/2021 18:30

The outrage should also be targetted at the Met. Look at this guy, a problem with steroids, a problem with extreme pornography, known as "the rapist" by his colleagues. He has pleaded guilty so none of this will come out.

The first two are actual criminal conduct, and then he exposes himself and that is not investigated. Yes the Met are culpable in this crime, because they gave and continued to give him the authority and the means to commit his crimes.

40 years ago, using steroids and watching hard core porn would have barred you from being in the police. Now, its okay, and you can expose yourself to women and still have a weapon. Yes the Met are misogynistic and culpable.
