8. It’s interesting to read ‘definitely not diagnosed/definitely not adhd’. I mean, how can you know if you’ve never been tested?!
It's not really "a test" though.
The problem with this type of thing (and the daft tiktokers - though admittedly not all of them!) is that these are all pretty common symptoms. Everyone daydreams. Everyone's thoughts get rapid / loud / kicked into over drive. Everyone is capable of some impulsivity, some hyperactivity, some procrastination, some mood swings. Everyone takes risks. Everyone forgets their keys.
That's not ADHD, that's being a human.
ADHD is where it detrimentally affects at least two parts of your life to the point where it's disabling. An adult who can't hold down a job, or maintain relationships, or keep a home in order, or manage a budget, or keep time at all. An 11 year old who needs to be reminded to eat or use the toilet, or can't fall asleep before 3am, or can't get themselves dressed without staring into space or getting lost in a cupboard (I've just described DD
).
If it's not constant, and it's not been present since childhood, and it's not detrimentally affecting your life, then it's not ADHD...
How can you know if you've never been tested?
If you know the symptoms and read the diagnostic criteria then you usually know?
That's a bit like saying you might not know why your leg is so sore, but as soon as you see bone sticking out, you know it's probably broken. How can you know it's broken without an xray? Because when there's a bone sticking out your shin you tend to know about it!
Do you have enough of the symptoms enough of the time to fit the criteria? If yes, are the symptoms affecting at least two areas in your life to the point it's disabling? If yes, have the symptoms been present since childhood? If yes, take the evidence to a Psychiatrist and get diagnosed.
If not... then you don't have adhd. And you don't have "a little adhd" either
